Many of you identify as Messianic Jews...

How does it accurately describe your faith in ways ‘Christian’ does not?
Could you follow another Christian path if required?
What is the one thing you wish others understood about your faith?
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced being a Messianic Jew?

I look forward to your replies. Thank you. :)

How does it accurately describe your faith in ways ‘Christian’ does not?

It more clearly specifies what I believe. There are hundreds of different denominations, each with their own sets of beliefs. I still strongly believe however that the label "Christian" is still an accurate descriptor because a Christian is someone who accepts Yeshua as the Son of the Almighty and Messiah, regardless of how that believer expresses his or her faith.

Could you follow another Christian path if required?
I suppose I could from an existential point of view, but it certainly would never have the same conviction or enthusiasm about the matter.

What is the one thing you wish others understood about your faith?

I think people tend to lump M.J. in with orthodox Jews. We don't all ascribe to same teachings or follow oral Torah. We accept Yeshua, whereas orthodox Jews do not. Many of us including myself do not have Jewish ethnic heritage or have a history of following Jewish practices. I changed my screen name on here some years ago to reflect these beliefs, but it's never been my legal name.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced being a Messianic Jew?

For me, it's trying to live out my faith as well as I can given that I'm living with family who does not. I would give anything to be able to open up to them about it instead of carrying on in secret, but religion has already caused great strife in my family, and I'd rather not exacerbate things any further. Being able to live this out 100% would be amazing with unyielding family support, but it's just not practical right now. On top of it all, I don't consider it appropriate to impose beliefs on others who do not follow them. However, I think YHWH smiles down on my attempts to refrain from un-kosher food consumption and Sabbath observance as much as possible. :)

I identify as Messianic Judaism. Messiah because I believe and follow Him. Judaism because that is His faith. I am not a Jew.

When you say Judaism are you implying you follow the tenets of Judaism but also believe in the Messiah?

Or do you implement aspects of their faith in your walk?

Yes, Judaism is the faith, and Yeshua is the Messiah of that faith, and it takes the Messiah to shed light on the Judaism he created and why and how to follow.

Thank you for clarifying. I didn’t want to make assumptions. :)

Do you attend services at a synagogue or Messianic place of worship?

Thank you for sharing! I’ve been contemplating this myself and where my spirit will be nourished and at peace. I appreciate your input. :)

I think people tend to lump M.J. in with orthodox Jews. We don't all ascribe to same teachings or follow oral Torah.

It is probable they haven’t been in the company of frum Jews to realize what they’re suggesting. I don’t think it’s an appropriate description of Messianic believers as a whole.

For me, it's trying to live out my faith as well as I can given that I'm living with family who does not. I would give anything to be able to open up to them about it instead of carrying on in secret, but religion has already caused great strife in my family, and I'd rather not exacerbate things any further.

I’m sorry to hear of your struggles and the challenges your faith has created in your home. But I believe your witness is paramount in light of the friction. It says more about your sincerity than an environment free of disruptions. It won’t be forgotten.

You are correct and I’m happy you haven’t pressed them to follow suit. It’s not indicative of the Jewish approach and oppresses the will. Choosing Him is a must.

I am Jewish and my family didn’t expect this to occur. My grandparents are Roman Catholic and tradition matters in their eyes. But I reminded my mother she placed me in a neighborhood with a synagogue in every direction within walking distance. It was bound to happen! ;-)

However, when I found my way back to God through the synagogue and noticeable changes occurred in my person the mood began to shift. It was evident through my physical health and focus that I’d found great peace and had come home to Him.

As a result, my aunt is embracing that part of our heritage and my grandmother no longer protests. The fruit was the tipping point.

My greatest challenge is the absence of others like myself. It’s not a question of fit but fellowship with another who understands my Jewishness and doesn’t seek its end.

Yes, Messianic places of worship are called synagogues.

I think you misunderstood me. I sought clarification on your post because it can be interpreted in two ways.

Judaism as a faith doesn’t readily mean you attend a Messianic synagogue. You could be a believer who worships in a traditional setting instead. :)

There is no local Messianic congregation. I do my devotional time at home for now.

Then God’s shalom, passing all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with the Messiah Yeshua."

Religious man (e.g. Christians, Messianic Judaism) has a habit of complicating things like you've got to spell His name this way not that way and you should pronounce it this way not that way, etc, etc, etc.

It would be like David when he's out in the field tending his sheep. He wiles away his time on his iPhone or Chromebook posting on Jewish websites instead of praising his LORD, singing songs with a circumcised heart, composing psalms in his heart and not thinking about the next movie to see, a favorite TV program, what restaurant to checkout next, what gadget, toy, clothing to buy and looking to religious man for guidance and on and on it goes ...

"In conclusion, brothers, focus your thoughts on what is true, noble, righteous, pure, lovable or admirable, on some virtue or on something praiseworthy."

The so-called "major" and "minor" Prophets (horrid terminology) heard from the LORD and were led by the LORD (although Jonah struggled). Keep listening and obeying His still small voice. (1 Kings 19:11-18). Isn't the WORD Soooo Heavenly encouraging. Look no further than the WORD for His Instruction for your daily walk with HIM.

I don't mean to rain on your thread, but it suggests you're looking to others instead of keeping your ears, eyes, spirit, heart focused on HIM. That said my heart tells me that by the time you are a grandmother your grandchildren will cherish you immensely for your loving wisdom.

The LORD Is GOOD!

You didn’t rain on my thread. You provided a lengthy response based on a conclusion without question or insight. The entire premise is based upon an assumption you made no attempt to validate before your reply.

I’m uncertain how you’ve concluded I look to others when my lone association with Christians is through this site and I just came back three days ago.

My time and focus are wholly invested in my purpose and the fulfillment of the mission He’s assigned. To say you’re off base is putting it mildly. You’re completely wrong. :)

So the LORD has instructed you to get feedback from other Messianic Christians along your journey in the fulfillment of your assigned mission ? :)

Is that how it worked with Abraham, Noah, Jacob, Ruth, Ester, Miram and others ?

Are you being facetious? The questions posed were to discover more about members of the community. I asked them of my own volition.

If you don’t want to participate that’s fine. I have no energy for silliness.
