Does the term, as it is normally used, not imply that the person believes the Bible to the exclusion of competing sources of religious authority?
So that's how you exclude me. Thanks for the info.

The term as it is normally used is a put down and nothing more and quite a silly term at that. There is no Catholic, Orthodox, or Traditional Christian that does not believe the Bible. The biggest problem is that people are so afraid of anything seeming to be Catholic that they can not see straight so they use the phrase "Bible believing" which is quite a slap in the face and very much an offense to Catholic, Orthodox, and Traditional Christians whole do not buy into Scripture alone

That is sounding harsh and extreme and intolerant of open debate about Scripture. It is simply not an honest appraisal of those who say they are Bible believers...and that term should never be labeled in a derogatory manner because God's word is holy. While we may all disagree in various aspects of what some hold as doctrine and use the Bible to explain our differences we should hold to the first commandment and love one another and pray we all find truth. One of the Bible's chief purposes is to teach and correct...II Timothy 3:16.

I am intolerant. I get tried of that stupid phrase because it is nothing more than a put down and trying to say that we who are Traditional Christians don't believe the Bible when we all do. Better they say believe the Bible thier own way than say "Bible believing"

I said I was a Bible believer a few posts ago, based on the criteria of some of the first posts, specifically posts 3 and 7, and it was clarified for me that I am not a Bible believer because I am Catholic. Never mind I read the Bible and believe the Bible. I just don't do it in a way Bible believers will accept. So the intolerance comes from the Bible believers who exclude me.

It is so difficult at times to discuss religion and have the beliefs we hold dear called into question, but we are enabled by the power of God to keep a peaceful dialogue going if we aim to shed light rather than win an argument. The goal is to allow freedom of thought and platform and expression all the way around to help one another find Truth...if we give enough respect to each other we have no fear of debate and discussion...it is name-calling which ends all discussion. Similarly to continue to claim victimization or to see victimization of oneself all to easily ends godly discussion as well and we can chalk one up for the devil.

Yes, this is getting to be a juvenile discussion on many levels. The "Bible Believer" title is held by many categories and so we shouldn't presume that because one omits you as a Catholic that another would also omit you.

That intolerance drips all over General Heresy, oops I mean General Theology
The Traditional Theology section does remain an oasis of sanity and politeness and thought.

What's the term "bible believer" mean exactly? At times it comes off as in contrast to "Jesus believer"
Bible believer vs Jesus believer vs Paul believer. Quite the merry-go-round. Believer could also mean that which you worship. I’ll stick with Jesus believer.

In my experience it often seems to be a term used for tribal identification, as an us vs. them.
