Right...all those people piled into overcrowded camps were just paid actors.

Anything it takes to salve the guilty consciences of those who claim to be disciples of Christ and support concentration camps, I guess.

Everyone should want the system to improve. The system was also bad under Obama, but few cared.
Obama didn’t have a policy of separating families.
That gem belongs to the Trump Administration, which told us that it was to be a deterrent to future asylum seekers.

Ummmm....mate?

You claim to live in Australia. “Our borders”..??

Yes, that's correct. I live in Australia, but originally hail from Los Angeles, California, which does border with Mexico. Sorry, for the confusion.

They're not receiving medical care. We already know that. They're also being denied basic hygiene items like soap and toothbrushes, and being crammed into overcrowded facilities.

No justifications and rationalizations that you could offer excuses that in any way, shape or form. If we call ourselves disciples of Christ, we should follow the guidelines for "aliens" in our midst that come from the Bible - many of which are helpfully written in my signature line for your perusal v

Look I was in Germany and visited Dachau. If you think what the refugees are facing is a concentration camp you need to go visit a real one

That being said, if we are holding people at these facilities then they should receive adiquate medical care, food, hygiene etc. That's our responsibility. We should do it. If we can't do it properly or fund it properly then we should send enough of them home so we can.

I won't budge a single inch on this issue. They're concentration camps and if we don't stop them - either by prosecuting those responsible or voting them out in 2020 (or both), the blood will be on our hands.

But I'm glad that we agree that the treatment these people are facing is a human rights issue. That's a good start that places you above many others who have discussed this issue with me.

Why sure. Any country with a corrupt right-wing government propped up by the US to protect the US business interests which are exploiting the country's labor and natural resources has got to be a paradise, right? Especially if it is infested with criminal gangs involved in shipping illegal drugs to the US. There's no reason for anyone to want to leave a place like that. Those so-called "asylum seekers" are just lazy hispanics who want to come here and sponge off of us so they can drive a bigger car and have two TVs instead of one.

Only about 30% of seekers meet the asylum standards. It's the facts. Sure other countries suck. But it's their country. They should do something about it.

We need to stay out of it. Those countries governments are corrupt not because we are involved. It's something for the people to fix. Not us.

The only paid "actor" is AOC.

That's because the definition of what counts as "legal" asylum has been narrowed to make it ridiculously hard to seek asylum in this country legally.

In fact, the 2010 Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, largely excluded undocumented immigrants from buying into public programs.

President Joe Biden as well as Sens. Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris and Kirsten Gillibrand — all raised their hands when asked who would offer health insurance to immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally.

That's health insurance through Obamacare. It's in the best interest of the nation that all children get medical care when they need it. It's in the interest of businesses that adults get health care when they need it.

They are, for the most part, illiterate peasants. Some of them don't even speak Spanish. There are no fair elections for them to vote in and the government and the drug gangs are heavily armed. What power do they have to do anything about it?

They do come across as they want to contribute to opening our borders. Sanders was a supporter of a bill that would give citizenship to many illegal immigrants:
Bernie Sanders - Wikipedia
I take it you couldn't find anything they've said or written that actually supports your contention that they "want open borders", so you've watered it down to the weasel-worded "want to contribute to opening our borders" - but even that is not supported by your cites, unless wanting even illegal immigrants to be treated humanely, increasing the number of asylum seekers and ending the Muslim ban is "open borders".

I agree, we should have stayed out of Central America...over the last century.

That says more about you and your sense of proportion (or lack of same) than about the issue

Yeah...that I care about children being abused, and that you don't.

They're not.

By definition they are.

I'm right, you're wrong. It's really that simple. You can either help us see them closed and those responsible prosecuted, or you can get out of the way.

Whatever they have to. It's not our job to police the world. We've gotten far to involved in areas that are nothing but corrupt on all sides. Picking one corrupt side over another is just folly.
