President set to shake hands with Chairman Kim

CNN is reporting live visuals that the President is all set to shake hands with Chairman Kim of the DPRK. The President, should that happen, will also be the first incumbent to cross the DMZ into DPRK territory to shake hands with the DPRK strongman.

Nothing substantial is expected but I believe that a photo OP or friendly gesture is better than no gesture. Some administration hawks think this will weaken the US position. What do you folks think?

On a positive note, Dennis Rodman tweeted in support!

PS: The President did cross over into the DPRK side of the DMZ to shake hands with Mr. Kim.

No, what is really important is John 3:16...no matter our sins...we are all forgiven because of Jesus...and we too must forgive.

The significance of this is what it might mean in the context of US-China relations. Kim is a puppet of China. He does nothing outside of their purview - at least until now. China is beginning to realize it cannot afford to fall on the hard side of Trump's economic demands. Their economy is extremely precarious and now businesses are moving out, in no small part due to China's ham-handed attempt of late to whip them into line, as other nations line up to take China's place in the supply chain. Even their "Belt and Road" initiative is showing signs of abandonment by the world, as its predatory nature comes to light, as in Tanzania just days ago.

Xi had listened to his hawks, and had pulled out of the trade talks and fired his chief trade rep. At the same time Kim was returning to his normal state of friskiness. But now it's clear that China is in no position to throw its weight around. The fired trade rep is back in an effort to regain lost ground, the talks are on, the doves are flying, and Kim is making nice again. Xi might be fighting for his own political survival.

So it is likely that China has decided to try to, uncharacteristically, compromise with Trump. There were signs of this at the G20 as well, where Xi, also uncharacteristically, went out of his way to reach out to Trump. Kim's actions - including the soft-light picture he released of himself reading Trump's "excellent content" letter in his study - seem to be in line with China's attempt to smooth things over.

Or maybe Kim is flexing his muscles and beginning to act independently of China, in a genuine move toward the West.

Or perhaps the whole thing is a head-fake, to confuse and buy time. Or just to see where it leads. But I doubt this.

What's happening has historic potential and is a step in the right direction. It seems to me we ought to be cautiously behind it and praying for the Lord's will to be done. And we know that in general that will is that we live in peace and dignity.

If you're referring to me, I've only started tracking and posting these recently. Trump being in office is a confidence. I do like what I see so far. I did admire President Obama's landmark arrangements with India and his reaching out to the Castro brothers. My proclivities aside, I started posting these events since the last two years or so. Peace in Christ.

But when a person keeps on doing evil despite the knowledge of Christ, there comes a point we do 2 John 1:10-11

Even Jesus wasn't friendly to all. He looked with anger at some Pharisees, harshly rebuked some of them, and even violently drove away merchants from the temple.

I don't understand how that verse applies to the situation between the POTUS and Chairman Kim. Furthermore, there has been great progress between these two leaders to bring about peace and prosperity for both countries. Now Chairman Kim has been invited to the White House...monumental to say the least.

Let's wait for results. No point getting excited over anything when both leaders have a history of changing on a whim, particularly so North Korea.

North Korea's history is the perception of progress at intervals only to revert back.

Well...to be honest I don't recall President Obama talking about falling in love with North Korea's leader. But if you have a video of him discussing that you should start a thread where that can be discussed. :eek:

Overall I see it as a positive thing. Talking and meeting with each other is what our worlds leaders need to do more often. Even if you disagree or have problems with a person, the first step should be discussion with them face to face.

Matthew 18 15-17

“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church.

Being nice, friendly, and accommodating to people who had decided to be evil is a bad thing. It wouldn't matter if it improves the economy or not. Matters of the flesh are worthless (of no value) - John 6:63, 1 John 2:15-17

As a Christian, especially, a Christian country, there are things far more important than peace and prosperity like observing justice and the Truth (exposing the Truth).

If Jesus held high priority to peace and was nice and friendly to everyone, no one would have wanted Him dead. He would have lived to an old age.

Of course, that's not what happened in the Bible. Jesus expressed anger to many and exposed their evil which eventually led to Him having many enemies among His own people.

One of our Duty as a Christian is to expose the Truth or if anyone does evil:

John 7:7 into John 14:12

I still don't get your point.

Diplomatic conversations with the leaders of other nations is paramount for getting along and reaching agreements. That has nothing to do with making nice, but has everything to do with finding common ground for friendly and peaceful relations.
