I am curious about conservative Christians, so I have a few questions...

Do you keep the Sabbath?

What do you think justifies divorce?

What are your standards of dress for public modesty?

Should the sexes be mixed or separated in religious service?

Do you have television in your home?

Would you send your children to public school?

I am not Christian but I will answer my own questions. I keep the Sabbath. Only adultery or failure of husband to provide justifies divorce. Clothes should be loose fitting from collarbone to knees (at least). The sexes should be separated in religious service. I do not have television. I homeschooled my kids.
Titling the thread "Questions for conservative Christians" seems misleading. Most of these points do not describe "conservative" stances.

Sabbath: I am the temple of the Holy Ghost I should keep everyday Holy as a Sabbath. Church services are on Sunday and Tuesday.
Justification for Divorce: Divorce is never the will of God if adultery is involved the will of God is reconciliation mercy and forgiveness. Jesus said to the Jews divorce was not meant to be but because of the hardness of their hearts Moses claimed a letter of divorcement, Jesus also said to the Jews adultery is the only justification for them. However Paul speaking to the church gives no such justification.
Clothes: women wear women's clothes blouse and dress or skirt lose fitting non revealing high necklines and long skirts or dresses below the knee.
Mixed seating but separate worship.
No devilvission in the home.
depends on the School choices.

Muslims tell me the same thing. I have considered both Christianity and Islam. I have read the New Testament and the Quran. I have attended (Greek Orthodox) church and mosque. And after this consideration, I feel that the Old Testament is the best fit for me.
I have read the quran too and its complete inferiority to The Bible is clearly seen. People get shocked sometimes when I say this but I am Christian so I don't know what people expect lol?

I read the quran because I was impressed by muslim fighters' bravery and apparent lack of fear. Ultimately true fearlessness - if possible - comes from Christianity. I believed on Christ because the Word of God is the power. It is powerful. Personally I believe someone has to give you the gospel, preferably verbally. I don't think it's necessary to give my thoughts on the quran on this thread beyond saying I am a Christian.

Onto your point about "the best fit". I think that is the wrong way to look at it. You don't put on the name-tag of a religion and start following rules and such with Christianity. You believe and then obey as far as I know and have experienced.

There is conservative religion and conservative morality, and these tend to correlate. I think most average people would consider my answers to my questions to reflect a conservative view. Those religions which generally share my answers, namely Islam, Orthodox Judaism, and traditional Anabaptism, are generally considered to be conservative religions.

So you are saying that if you were on a sports team and you played the sport for God/Christ, you would refuse to play on the same team with people who played for other reasons?
We're not on the same team, not even close.

Thank you for answering. I think we have enough in common morally to be on the same side. Please tell me something about your kind of Christianity so that I can learn more and maybe visit a church in my area. (I live in El Paso.)

There is conservative religion and conservative morality, and these tend to correlate.

But that requires us to know what "conservative" means here. We are asked about "Conservative Christians," yet the questions following do not describe conservative positions as they might relate to the Christian religion.

The Old Order Amish, for example, are NOT the epitome of what is traditional, i.e. conservative in Christian thinking, belief, or practice.

Maybe the general issue you are interested in is worth exploring, but the framework chosen for the questions was a mistake.

I consider myself to be basically a conservative Christians and I am oriented towards the historic liturgy, the Real Presence, the sacraments as channels of grace, and so on. If someone comes along and says that they have a better idea or are more adept at understanding the Bible than the church throughout the ages has...he might be right. But he is not conservative in the Christian context..

I follow the Old Testament.
We have a new covenant that does not use any old covenant rules, rituals or Religion.
If you are a gentile read acts 15, col 2
Follow Jesus not religion

As far as keeping the Sabbath goes, I usually attend services on Sunday, but then I do other things.

Grounds for divorce, are adultry, and an unbelieving spouse walking out on you. However, there needs to be a reasonable effort at reconciliation first, and if you are using these as grounds for divorce, they need to be the reason, not just using them as an excuse because you are bored, or want to see other people as well.

Dress: Woman, needs to be appropriate for the season, no bare mid-drift, open back, and dress length should be just above the knees. Men, no sagging pants, no wife-beater as an outer garment, appropriate for the season.

Men and women can sit together in church.

We have TV in our home

Both of my children attended public school

I am curious about conservative Christians, so I have a few questions...

Do you keep the Sabbath?

Depends on what you mean by "observe" (ie: No work?), but do acknowledge that the literal Sabbath is sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. It is good to do good on the Sabbath.

What do you think justifies divorce?

Adultery and physical violence

What are your standards of dress for public modesty?

I dress down a lot. I don't wear a suit to church and believe God doesn't care what you wear as long as you're not flashy or seeking attention/glorification for yourself.

Should the sexes be mixed or separated in religious service?

I thoroughly enjoy sitting with my wife during worship.

Do you have television in your home?

Several, just don't have cable. Hulu, Netflix, Youtube and there's usually never anything good to watch anyway.

Would you send your children to public school?

If I must, but I am going to watch the curriculum like a hawk and be involved (our son is 1)

"I am curious about conservative Christians, so I have a few questions...Do you keep the Sabbath? What do you think justifies divorce? What are your standards of dress for public modesty? Conservative: holding to traditional attitudes & values & CAUTIOUS ABOUT CHANGE OR INNOVATION, typically in relation to politics or religion.

Christian conservative: holding to the ancient, historic doctrines of the faith, as faithfully passed down by the prophets & the apostles & NT writers of the Lord Jesus Christ.

So being a conservative Muslim or a conservative Jew is NOT being a conservative Christian & that is what this forum is about & why a moderator mentioned that talking about other things, whether in opposition to or promoting other beliefs is not allowed.

Simply because some moral choices may be similar doesn't not make them the same based on foundational beliefs. The moderator mentioned specifically the Nicene Creed which is a creed conservative Christians believe to be true.

The Nicene Creed is the most widely accepted & used brief statements of the Christian Faith.

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven & earth & of all things visible & invisible & in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us men & for our salvation came down from heaven & was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary & was made man & was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered & was buried & the third day He rose again ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES & ascended into heaven & sits on the right hand of the Father & He shall come again, with glory, to judge both the living & the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end. And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord & Giver of Live, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son]; who with the Father & the Son together is worshiped & glorified; who spake by the Prophets. And I believe one holy catholic & apostolic Church; I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins & I look for the resurrection of the dead & the life of the world to come. AMEN.

Just because some moral decisions may be similar, it doesn't justify that an 'other' belief system is the same or even similar.

For instance in the Nicene Creed it mentions the Scriptures, meaning both OT & NT are foundational in our belief. It also mentions the resurrection of the dead & the life to come. It also mentions Jesus is God (intrinsically possessing the same nature of God), just like the Father is God: very God of very God, begotten not made or created. These are things you don't believe in.

In the Apostles' Creed, which is very similar, it also mentions the 'communion of the saints' which means Christian meet in communion with other Christians, not in communion with other belief systems, such as Judaism or Islam.

The Creator, the living & eternal God who created the heavens & the earth, does not take lightly changing His direct revelation in the Scriptures nor having any other god before Him, not even in His sight, no other supposed god beside Him, as if to be His equal.

Deuteronomy 4:2 You must not add to or subtract from what I command you, so that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God that I am giving you.

Proverbs 30:5,6 Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you & prove you a liar.

Exodus20:1-4 And God spoke all these words: “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before (besides) Me.

4You shall not make for yourself an IDOL OF ANY KIND OR AN IMAGE OF ANYTHING in the heavens above, on the earth beneath, or in the waters below.

5YOU SHALL NOT BOW DOWN TO THEM OR WORSHIP THEM; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing loving devotion to a THOUSAND GENEARTIONS of those who LOVE ME & KEEP My commandments.

7You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will NOT leave anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain.

As believing Christians who worship the Triune God, we don't go about adding to or taking away from--changing the Scriptures--just because we differ with some of what it says. We don't worship false gods, such as the Muslim believes in nor do we bow down to that false god when we worship with other Christians, because that false god denies the basic Scriptural beliefs as found in the Nicene & Apostle's Creeds.

Perhaps your thread might better belong in the forum where nonchristians can discuss things with Christians.

1. Yes, but not in the sense you mean. We do not observe a day of the week as our Sabbath because the Sabbath day was only a foreshadowing of the rest we would have in Christ, so now that Christ has come, He is our Sabbath.

2. Adultery or some other violation of the marriage vows

3. Depends. I live in a beach town, so my standards may be a little more relaxed than others. Essentially, I would just say that if it's going to cause somebody to sin, you shouldn't wear it, and if you're wearing it to entice somebody who is not your spouse, then I wouldn't wear it.

4. Mixed.

5. We did not have television in our home for many years and it was great. I'm not against it, as long as you use discernment.

6. We homeschooled our children for a variety of reasons, not all of them religious or moral objections.

I don't believe in an afterlife, so I am not concerned. I know how our beliefs differ, I am interested to know what if anything we have in common. How much ethics do we share?

I am confused. Do you believe in the second coming of Christ where there will be a resurrection of the dead? That's in the old testament.

I have a question about the Sabbath based on your answer in #1.

If sin had never come into the world, would there be a Sabbath?

What is the reason that you separate the Old from the New Testament. They together make up the inspired word of God and neither can be properly understood without the other

I am curious about conservative Christians, so I have a few questions...

Do you keep the Sabbath?

Not in the way it is done in the Jewish religion with elevators set for automatic so you don't do the work of pushing an elevator button. A day of rest and worship, sure.

What do you think justifies divorce?

Adultery and physical abuse.

What are your standards of dress for public modesty?

In general, cover what should be, don't wear anything with vulgar slogans, and wear clothing appropriate to your gender.

Should the sexes be mixed or separated in religious service?

Mixed. Even the scripture records that such services were mixed in the 1st-2nd century AD.

Do you have television in your home?

I have a television, but I use it as a monitor with an on-demand Roku streaming set top box. I got rid of my cable TV subscription around five years ago.

Would you send your children to public school?

No. Homeschool or private Christian school is the only legitimate option today.

Do you keep the Sabbath?
I recognize Shabbat from Friday to Saturday.

What do you think justifies divorce?
I can only speak of separation and do so personally: abuse, sexual misconduct, addiction and criminal activity.

What are your standards of dress for public modesty?
I wear classic feminine attire and prefer dresses and skirts. My clothing is knee length (or slightly below) and my makeup is tasteful.

Should the sexes be mixed or separated in religious service?
I have not experienced this personally but it’s common in Orthodox synagogues.

Do you have television in your home?
One. I access digital subscriptions and craft classes via Roku. I don’t watch traditional programming but will watch classics, opera, and theater productions.

Would you send your children to public school?
No. I believe an education at home with a classic curriculum delivered by the parent or tutor is best.

1. Do you mean Saturday? No, as I don't believe it's binding anymore on the NT church -- Colossians 2:16

2. Adultery/sexual immorality or malicious desertion (Matthew 19:9, 1 Corinthians 7:15, 1 Timothy 5:8)

3. Cover at least most of the upper thighs from knee-up (bottom part of the body), and cover most of the top part of the body (some shoulder/neck exposure on hot days is ok). This goes for both genders (if some well-build stud was parading around topless in church and exposing his pecs and six-pack abs, that would be highly inappropriate for us hetero women to look at)

4. Mixed; both men and women attended religious services in the NT (1 Timothy 2)

5. Yes, but we currently don't have cable -- husband and I use the TV for DVDs and video game systems only right now. I think cable can be used with discretion, but it's pricey, so we haven't had it for a couple of years. I do watch local news on the night shift where I work (in-home care for clients with disabilities).

6. I personally wouldn't, and even my non-theistic husband wouldn't, either, for a variety of reasons (at least from elementary and beyond -- some structured preschool programs look decent to us). However, this isn't a dogma we think everyone should be held to; some public districts and schools are much better/worse than others, and it depends on the area and reasons. Children do need some kind of structured education, and they need to learn how to interact with others in public social settings, so husband and I have considered various park programs, etc. as supplements to the home education we plan on providing.
