"I am curious about conservative Christians, so I have a few questions...Do you keep the Sabbath? What do you think justifies divorce? What are your standards of dress for public modesty? Should the sexes be mixed or separated in religious service? Do you have television in your home? Would you send your children to public school?"
Conservative: holding to traditional attitudes & values & CAUTIOUS ABOUT CHANGE OR INNOVATION, typically in relation to politics or religion.
Christian conservative: holding to the ancient, historic doctrines of the faith, as faithfully passed down by the prophets & the apostles & NT writers of the Lord Jesus Christ.
So being a conservative Muslim or a conservative Jew is NOT being a conservative Christian & that is what this forum is about & why a moderator mentioned that talking about other things, whether in opposition to or promoting other beliefs is not allowed.
Simply because some moral choices may be similar doesn't not make them the same based on foundational beliefs. The moderator mentioned specifically the Nicene Creed which is a creed conservative Christians believe to be true.
The Nicene Creed is the most widely accepted & used brief statements of the Christian Faith.
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven & earth & of all things visible & invisible & in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us men & for our salvation came down from heaven & was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary & was made man & was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered & was buried & the third day He rose again ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES & ascended into heaven & sits on the right hand of the Father & He shall come again, with glory, to judge both the living & the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end. And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord & Giver of Live, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son]; who with the Father & the Son together is worshiped & glorified; who spake by the Prophets. And I believe one holy catholic & apostolic Church; I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins & I look for the resurrection of the dead & the life of the world to come. AMEN.
Just because some moral decisions may be similar, it doesn't justify that an 'other' belief system is the same or even similar.
For instance in the Nicene Creed it mentions the Scriptures, meaning both OT & NT are foundational in our belief. It also mentions the resurrection of the dead & the life to come. It also mentions Jesus is God (intrinsically possessing the same nature of God), just like the Father is God: very God of very God, begotten not made or created. These are things you don't believe in.
In the Apostles' Creed, which is very similar, it also mentions the 'communion of the saints' which means Christian meet in communion with other Christians, not in communion with other belief systems, such as Judaism or Islam.
The Creator, the living & eternal God who created the heavens & the earth, does not take lightly changing His direct revelation in the Scriptures nor having any other god before Him, not even in His sight, no other supposed god beside Him, as if to be His equal.
Deuteronomy 4:2 You must not add to or subtract from what I command you, so that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God that I am giving you.
Proverbs 30:5,6 Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you & prove you a liar.
Exodus20:1-4 And God spoke all these words: “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before (besides) Me.
4You shall not make for yourself an IDOL OF ANY KIND OR AN IMAGE OF ANYTHING in the heavens above, on the earth beneath, or in the waters below.
5YOU SHALL NOT BOW DOWN TO THEM OR WORSHIP THEM; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing loving devotion to a THOUSAND GENEARTIONS of those who LOVE ME & KEEP My commandments.
7You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will NOT leave anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain.
As believing Christians who worship the Triune God, we don't go about adding to or taking away from--changing the Scriptures--just because we differ with some of what it says. We don't worship false gods, such as the Muslim believes in nor do we bow down to that false god when we worship with other Christians, because that false god denies the basic Scriptural beliefs as found in the Nicene & Apostle's Creeds.
Perhaps your thread might better belong in the forum where nonchristians can discuss things with Christians.
