Knitting site Ravelry bans support for 'white supremacist' Trump administration on its platform
A popular knitting social media website has banned support for President Donald Trump on its platform, accusing his administration of propagating "open white supremacy."

Ravelry, a community site that allows users to share ideas about knitting and textile projects, said in a blog post Sunday that it will remove users if they express support for Trump on its forum, profile pages or any other content.
"We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy. Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy," the site said.

"You can still participate if you do in fact support the administration, you just can't talk about it here," it added in the post announcing the policy.

I'm from Oberlin, and the college there just lost a $33 million lawsuit for smearing a local business after some of their students were arrested for shoplifting from it. Perhaps these knitters should be careful who they accuse of what without evidence. Oberlin learned that the hard way.

I'm not sure that's the same thing.
This Ravely is saying it about people who are on their site, not at another place of business.

It would make more sense to just make the whole site apolitical though. That seems like it would be an easier tact. I mean, I get it, but as much as I dislike Trump, I don't think that means expressing support for him makes you a white supremicist. I don't think it's a FLATTERING look, and there are other things I may question about a person but for simply saying "Trump's got the economy truckin' along" is not a basis for a white supremicist label.

My point was that they're accusing someone of white supremacy and racism without evidence- and as my hometown just found out, you can still get in trouble for stuff like that.

In your hometown, they targetted another business that (if I'm remembering your story correctly) sufferred financial loss and had a GREAT case for slander/libel.

This is a private business and it's a chat forum. That just doesn't seem equivocal to me.

Apologies though TuxAme. I'm not THAT impassioned or informed on the legalities of this.

I don't think they're accusing him of encouraging white supremacy and racist statements without evidence. Central Park Five, neo-Nazis and white supremacists called "fine people," lashing out at African Americans that call out his racial arguments, remaining silent and reserved when the topic of hate crimes and their increase in the country, concentration camps at the southern border, etc. There are receipts.

Can we simply get the proof Trump is doing as the article claims.

That souldn't be too much to ask for....right?
Why?
There have been NUMEROUS threads on that very topic. We don't need to focus yet ANOTHER thread on that topic. By this point you likely agree or don't agree.

Just have an opinion on the topic at hand.

What do you think about the authoritarian knitters?

Until I see the proof, I'll assume the good ladies are knit picking.
You don't need to post this. You've seen plenty of evidence by this point. You have chose to either ignore it or redefine what it means. There's no sense in pretending to appear even handed on this matter; your stance is well known and repeating evidence does nothing.

I'm still hoping you would comment on a knitting support banning someone for a political stance.

I see, because to have decided I don't need proof, that settles everything. LOL

Your time posting that would have been better spent posting the proof, but maybe you are unable to do that?

My time would be best sent not continuing with off topic inane banter as you attempt to avoid the topic at hand.
So, toodles.
