From what I've read it was actually kind of panned when it came to the US. It has since become a sleeper hit.

I guess Screwtape Letters is off the reading list, then...

In all seriousness, I think this sort of thing is from the looney fringe of the religious right. I doubt even that many conservative Christians really care.

Looking at the website from which this boycott started, my guess is that this is merely an attempt at driving book sales and/or clicks and that the backlash against it has probably contributed more to those numbers than anything. A clever person might've made that sort of "mistake" on purpose.

So the only point to this whole thread is to poke fun at those who don't know what platform the show plays on? Your fine with them asking that it be cancelled. It just funny that they don't know where to send the petition. Have I got that right?

Two thousand people petitioning a platform they clearly don't use to remove a show they clearly don't watch?

It's too bad these Christians apparently don't know how to mind their own business and stop trying to control what other people can watch on tv. It's a good show and I hope there's a second season.

It's doubtful from my understanding. There are no plans currently to do a series and even if there was, there is no source material which means Gaiman will have to start from 30-year-old notes. Which is part of why I find this petition so ridicolus. A second season was never likely and the first season is already done, so the petition is going to do nothing unless they expect Amazon to pull the show because 20k people complained about it.

Well all the folks with their britches in a bunch sure did manage to give a ton of free publicity to the show they don't want anybody to see, ensuring that far more will see it.

But that was a book. That means the start of any controversy back then would require someone who knew how to read.

Poor Screwtape. I tried to talk to him about this thread but he always starts laughing so hard he turns into a centipede. One worthy of teh Science Fiction channel. Is betting allowed here. I'm thinking of starting a pool on when they try to ban that channel.

Oh I don't care about the poking fun. If you screw up publically then it's going to happen. That's part of the game when you are doing a public thing. So poke fun! It's all good.

Great, except other posts are criticising them for wanting the show cancelled regardless of the platform. So apparently it's not just about poking fun at the mistake.

It seems like they informed me of a series that might be "controversial" and at the same time which platform it was actually on.

Sounds like advertisement to me.
