Trump administration argues in court that detained migrant children don't need toothbrushes or soap and they can sleep on concrete floors
The Trump administration went to court this week to argue that migrant children detained at the United States-Mexico border do not require basic hygiene products like soap and toothbrushes in order to be in held in "safe and sanitary" conditions. Trump's team also argued that requiring minors to sleep on cold concrete floors in crowded cells with low temperatures similarly fulfilled that requirement.

Arguing in a 9th district San Francisco court about the conditions that they must hold migrant children in, the administration said that they did not violate a precedent set by a landmark 1985 class action lawsuit which established guidelines for the way minors held in federal immigration detention must be treated. The case, Jenny Lisette Flores v. Edwin Meese, created rules around the timely release of migrant minors to their parents, and said that those not released must be kept in facilities that are "safe and sanitary."

But on Tuesday, the Justice Department's Sarah Fabian claimed that the ruling did not list specific requirements like "toothbrushes" or "towels," to establish a sanitary condition.

"One has to assume it was left that way and not enumerated by the parties because either the parties couldn't reach agreement on how to enumerate that or it was left to the agencies to determine," Fabian said to the three Clinton-appointed federal judges on the court.

"You're really going to stand up and tell us that being able to sleep isn't a question of safe and sanitary conditions?" U.S. Circuit Judge Marsha Berzon asked Fabian.

Didn't these people bring that stuff with them???

Tell that to people at a FEMA facility next time there's a disaster.

Sometimes grabbing a toothbrush before fleeing imminent danger is the last of people's concerns.

Another example of pro-birth, not pro-life. As long as they're born, who cares what happens after that, right? Ridiculous.

The Mexican, central American and South American incidents of immigration and refuge are a test of dehumanization, just like the shooting of unarmed black people thugs in the street (except, those thugs are actual citizens and they still get that treatment).

If Americans don't say anything, and accept the spoon-fed stereotypes and prejudice spewed to them as justification, then those same ones who were silent will be the next ones to experience the dehumanization. But of course this will happens when everyone who didn't matter has been removed. Remember, it was Bush and Reagan who wanted to one-up each other regarding immigration four decades ago. People just forget about that.

Notice Reagan's message.

They played with several nations in distress for political reputation and support - and we allowed it and accepted it. At this point, America is definitely going to collapse. There are too many distractions, and inherent prejudices within the American people (something never addressed in a way other than disdain) there is defiantly no national composition except, maybe, the drive to seek profit and status (capitslism and ego). Nations like that are weak, and can be collapsed mostly without a shot fired - which is what is happening to America.

The inherent, ignored problems within the nation - even and especially the atrocities - have created a nation of ignorance and romantic handicap. Now, we say "the country is soooo divided now" because we just notice it now - It has always been divided, and those who felt the division most have been called liars throughout the history of it.

Made to sound like the children are going to be entirely too cold, and a cruel trump is going to allow that. IOW, that reeks of twisted/biased reporting.

So of course I doubt that, and it doesn't help the believeability of the rest of the story. Think I'll wait for the truth to emerge.

Closed because, as I said, I will wait to "see".

Clearly yours are shut to the reality of how the media treats trump and how many times this type thing has been posted only to find there was just a bit more to it.

But, that's ok, you aren't the only one who refuses to see those facts, and can't understand why some of us are a bit jaded, and for very good reason.

Again, I'll take a wait and see approach on this one.

Agreed. It is ridiculous. I’m pro life. I know a lot of pro life people. Not one single one of them believe “as long as they’re born, who cares?”
It’s a stupid premise and no pro lifers believe it. But pro abort people keep yelling it as if it were true. Talk about ridiculous.

Newsweek the fake news blog site had its offices raided by the police yesterday. They took photos and seized property including servers and computer equipment.

Illegal immigrants are held for violating the law, not for being "migrants." It was under Obama that a federal judge ruled children couldn't be detained with their parents. The authorities have to separate children from their parents or be in violation of a court order.

I wonder if Federal workers fear dismissal if they act outside of their prescribed operating protocols in regard to illegal migrants.

hmmm...I'm curious how else would you read this:

tulc( )

Just read it as written. How did they care for their needs on their journey? I see pictures of them laden with 'bindles'.

Why would DHS "go to court" to insist that kids be deprived of their hygiene needs. Makes no sense.

Also according to the article all that we need to provide is a "safe and clean" place for them to stay. It is up to them to provide for their other needs. Now if DHS is taking their toothbrushes and sleeping bags, mats, or blankets away from them that's a different story.
