At church for the next 3 months we are going over all the parables of Jesus. I am excited because I believe this is where the real meat of the word resides. The sermons have been greatly edifying so far, and I'm so fortunate to have the church leadership that is there. Today the message was on Matthew 13:44-46.

As per tradition, these parables often assume that WE are that wo/man who believes on Christ and then we sacrifice all that we have to pursue Him totally with our lives. Pursuing that treasure of eternal life greater than anything we could own on earth. Losing ourselves and our worldly desires in the process.

But the pastor said something else in addition to that common interpretation. He said, perhaps the treasure is Israel or the Body/Bride of Christ, and it is Jesus who is actually the man that sells all He has in order to purchase something of eternal value. Philippians 2:6-8

What do you all think about that? I hadn't heard of that until this morning and I admittedly like it.

But Jesus did leave Heaven itself, in order to come to reach us and save us and share all God's own good with us. So, even if it does not mean Jesus, Jesus has done this, more or less.

I think our treasure first is God through Christ. But we His children sharing with one another are treasure of love.

And with this idea of yours we can feed on how Paul says he left all in order to win Jesus and be found with God's righteousness and not his own > Philippians 3:7-16.

There once was a merchant looking for pearls
Thinking of them like nuts to squirrels
But one day he found a pearl of great price
And sold all he had, all his merchandise
To buy the pearl he sought the most
Which in the end would be his boast.
There are those who seek from place to place
What can be found only through God's grace
The pearl of great price is Jesus our Lord
When you find Him you'll find that you can afford
To replace your trust in other things
With the One from whom eternal life springs

As for the Treasure in the Field:

Once there was a man who found a treasure
Hidden in a field, and he took pleasure
In selling all he had to buy that field
To gain the treasure it would yield
God has a treasure, it's hidden away
But seek and you shall find some day
That treasure he offers which is life through the Son
A life which will last after your life here is done
