We filed for bankruptcy 15 years ago.

With my wife's blessing (she has memory issues), I
  1. Took over the reins of our finances,
  2. Created a system of multiple checking accounts (instead of just one),
  3. --I highly recommend tithing for born-again Christians--
  4. Brought my credit score to 800.

There's absolutely nothing impossible for God to do. He can give you a good job even while you're studying, you'll be amazed at what He can do with the knowledge or skill you already have no matter how little it is for now.

Yes prayer works! With God nothing is impossible. My friend at church just had this happen to her...she has a masters in childhood education...been working a minimum wage job last 4 years..she loved her job.her hubby gets injured at work so his pay drops significantly...she just started her new job a month ago...she is being trained in her job...went from 725 an hour to 20 something....

Pray pray

The key is she has a masters in childhood education. I don't have a degree in anything.

A $20 something an hour job will not just fall into my lap with no skills to match that $20 something an hour .

No amount of prayer can help lack of skills!

Some laborers, construction kinda jobs or factories can pay that...

Have faith and pray

I can no longer do those jobs. I have bad knees and my back isn't the greatest anymore . EMS is tough on the body and is the reason I am going back to school in July 2020 for surgical tech.

I will be staying in the job I am now and going through bankruptcy. I will change jobs after school.

This is the best course of action. So, if we can get back on topic and people can start telling me what to expect during a bankruptcy I would greatly appreciate it!

I didn't want to do this, but God allowed the Jews to wipe out their debts every 7 years--so I figure He has no problem with wiping mine out once in my lifetime!
The same God said not to make vows and then break them. I do not believe the debt the Jews were in is the same as the agreements we sign to borrow money with the promise to pay it all back...

I was in a situation worse than yours.....bills more than twice my income...debt in the hundreds of thousands....I did what I thought was best....to no avail....I was able to get out of it, way on top, without bankruptcy...in ways only God could have orchestrated......

But you dont seem to care about this now.....you are still in the, "fix it yourself" phrase.... And I encourage you to continue doing what you feel is best, until you are ready to give God a try.

I have family who have filed before. You can expect to never be able to get a loan again within 10years. Never being able to finance anything at a good rate for more than 10 years. Never being able to get a mortgage, alone, and at a good rate.
Also you can expect that when you lend others items and money, in good faith, they will find a way and find good reasons to not have to pay/give it back.

May God give you the desires of your heart.

Thank you for your response!

As I said, I got myself into this mess and it is my responsibility to get myself out, not God's.

As for mortgage and stuff. I have a girlfriend who has already said when it's time for us to get a house when we're married, she can be the one listed in the mortgage and not me. I can be listed on the title to the house. So, while my credit history will not affect the interest rate, I can still have my name listed on the house and I of course will contribute to its expenses.

can you live with other people save on accommodation costs? other studying people maybe? share expenses?
you've probably thought of such things I guess

I don't really have any friends. I have people that I work with, but the friendship doesn't go beyond work. I have a girlfriend, but that would go against God. Plus, I'm pretty sure anyone I live with isn't going to want two children every weekend running around the house.

in my country we just answer advertisements for rooms for rent in houses. dont have to know the other people first or be friends with them as it's just a living arrangement. it saves a lot of money.
I rent out rooms in my house to students or working people, it helps pay my bills. I have had one lady with a child, might be surprised what's out there and what people dont mind.
anyway food for thought maybe.

Thank you! I will think about it, but the idea of being in a house with someone I don't know and them being around my kids is also something to think about. Plus I'm not sure their mom would appreciate it either.

Approach the Holy Spirit on your knees, ask simply, and be quiet and listen. One step at a time, one square at a time, one day at a time. What you are asking for requires the adjustment of hundreds of people, many thousands of hours of event changes, and even changes out into the universe in order to help you. Be quiet..., listen, take one step at a time.

As I said, I got myself into this mess and it is my responsibility to get myself out, not God's.

I felt the same way....and fought, for more than a year, to get myself out of the mess I created, while God stood by and watch. When I finally gave up on trying....I found that the Lord was more than able and willing to deliver me out of all my trouble.... He also didnt mind waiting while I try to deliver myself.
So be encouraged, He will wait as long as you want him to....while you try and deliver yourself. Try as hard and as much as you can to avoid the Lord..... He doesnt mind, and I dont either....as I have done so myself....

It is not that easy. You limit the size of the mortgage you and your wife can get, by eliminating your income from consideration.....This also increases the APR and might make a PMI a requirement.
It is not wise to place this kind of burden on a wife or a new marriage....as financial issues are the number one cause of divorce.
Also, if you successfully force your wife to take on a mortgage alone....it will take years before you can have your name on a title.....although Im not sure why you would make this a priority......being that it would be your wife taking all the risk.

First, stop with the God will deliver you stuff. I don't believe that, so end it!

Second, my girlfriend is willing to do this for us. There is a program available where there is no PMI even with just 3% down. In way this will keep us from overspending on our home and it will be built in protection in case one of us gets laid off being able to afford the home on one salary.

As you can see, we have talked about this extensively. This isn't something I have rushed into.

This is off topic per my request. Please bring it back on topic. The experiences of those that had bankruptcy and what I can expect during it. I am doing the bankruptcy, plain and simple.

Please stop with the God will help you.
