Hi there,

I'm 45 years old, married, but unemployed since last September.

I had a plan to look for work in May. Just as I was about to, my wife just got made redundant from work, and also a bit lost what to do. Her status has now changed my plan what to do. I'm hanging on whatever she wants to do next.

Life is up in the air!

I pray to God every Sunday. But currently I'm not sure what the future holds.

Any advice here would be great.

Thanks,
God Bless.
Lee.

Go to every hotel in your erea and ask if they need any help, tell them you will do anything.

I manage a hotel, we are always in need of good help.

This could be a really good time in your lives to do something totally different, like find work together in another town or country for a while, change career or do something you've never been able to because of work commitments. If your children (if any) are grown up and stable and your parents (if any) are well, jump at the opportunity to ask God if now's a good moment to do something for yourselves

Hi Lee

Pray every day for starters - we often overlook that one.

Sit down and have a think what you need to do. Work out your essential income - cut costs where you can such as energy swaps, insurance swaps, whatever. Get rid of anything you don't really need to reduce outgoings. Shop wisely. Check out any benefits due to you - there might be more than you think. Can you get a tax refund on earnings - it's the end of the tax year after all. Claim everything - married tax allowance, etc.

Start applying for jobs - possibly go self employed? There are grants available - not much but they are there.

Make some short term plans - make some long term plans.

Finances are a big source of stress in relationships - so you really have to take action here. Motivation and confidence are going to take a hit so get into a healthy routine - be prepared to start work when you do get it.

Good Luck

Neither did U2 ;)

Are you looking for Spiritual advice or career advice?
How is your faith - how do you see it?

I now have a plan. Having a break before looking for work. I've been working in some form of IT job since 1996. So I hope to get back to some IT related role this Summer.

Good luck with the career, etc. There's an old saying - you make your own luck:oldthumbsup:

Now if you belong to God then why not pray about it - God is still answering prayers and pulling off the miracles. The word says make the Kingdom your Primary concern. That's a tough challenge to everyone especially when you have other distractions that seem more important. God first !

Life's storm's do come and a house that is not built on solid ground takes a battering.
Notice the words are that you should act and what Jesus told us to do.

I will show you what he is like who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them: 48He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid his foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the torrent crashed against that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49But the one who hears My words and does not act on them is like a man who built his house on ground without a foundation. The torrent crashed against that house, and immediately it fell—and great was its destruction.”

There are things I have done and still do online that net a few dollars here and there. Since you have a background in IT, I believe if you scour the internet, you could find a gig using your knowledge right from home on Facetime or Skype or whatever.. Troubleshoot, customer service, you can sit and write code all day and get paid for what you produce, not your time., You can even get paid tositand record instructions to everyday items.Rise up in the ranks and you spit out manuals for good money. Again, based on production and work quality.

I do simple stuff like fill out surveys and write reviews. You can see by the half page of text I write inmy posts that I like to write so it's like I'm not even working for that couple dollars I get.You have to be careful ding that I learned the hard way. I went down the rabbit hole when I started seeking out this stuff.

I went through to a $1,000 Walmart card early on. I went through the apps they wanted me to sample and to move to a higher level faster, I signed up for some "free trials" until after 2 hours and constant tapping and swiping, I got to the final level and I was one task away from the 1000 but they wanted me to sign up for something I would have to actually pay like 25 or 30 bucks for some app or membership to something. I just couldn't do it. It became imperative to me that they don't get my money and say " almost there, one more level to go" endlessly. I still robodial calls.
