Uh huh. The tariffs were first announced on May 31: Trump threatens new tariffs on Mexican imports - CNN Video

and now it's only June 8th when the requirements to avoid them are fulfilled and you are quick to claim that Mexico was going to do what they did all along. Whatever.

And Mexico had already agreed to do it in March: Mexico Agreed to Take Border Actions Months Before Trump Announced Tariff Deal

Mexico agrees to do something, Donald makes threats after they agree to do it, Mexico does what they were going to do anyway, Donald looks like a big man in the eyes of small men.

Wow the Trump haters just gotta hate.

So...
If I contract with you to paint my house and you agree to do so, it’d be kosher with you if I took out a full page ad in your town’s newspaper threatening to sue you if you don’t honor your end of the agreement?

We still have the capability to do that. We have materials, mills, factories, foundries, forges. We have industrial infrastructure.
Who is we? The government? Corporations don't want to or they wouldn't have left to begin with.

He could have simply asked Mexico to step up enforcement as President Obama did in 2014 when many unaccompanied minors were flooding the southern border. Instead, he had to put on a big show for the benefit of his base.

btw, it remains to be seen if Mexico caries through (but alas, that doesn't really matter because Trump doesn't really care).

By giving Mexico an incentive to do something other than allow their illegals to keep coming over the border. If they don't like the tariffs, then they should at least beef up their own border security. It would cost them less.

This is really splitting your nose to spite your face. Mexico isn't really going to be hurt by this measure nearly as much as US businesses and consumers. All it amounts to is political posturing and signalling without a sound basis in understanding of reality.

It wouldn't work because we now know it never had to. Mexico was doing everything anyway... Now Donald has 90 days to say "not good enough" and threaten with the tariffs again... and back to square one we go.

Donald didn't even get his #1 demand -- for asylum seekers to apply while still in Mexico (in all fairness, that would've been against international law, but what does he know?). Furthermore, While he had you distracted with his huffing and puffing, he's gotten you to overlook his pledge on behalf of the US "and Mexico will lead in working with regional and international partners to build a more prosperous and secure Central America to address the underlying causes of migration, so that citizens of the region can build better lives for themselves and their families at home."

In all fairness, IF Donald follows through on this, then I say bravo to him -- it's what I've been saying all along: stop the problems at their source. But that means that US resources and money are going into Central America... and how much of that (which is coming out of your tax dollars) are you and the rest of his base willing to part with?

Yes. How about the fact that Mexico complied with Trump's demands to avoid the tariff?

Including his biggest and most important demand? That asylum seekers apply while still in Mexico?

How does the prevention of human trafficking and drug smuggling and illegal immigration hurt US businesses and consumers? Oh wait, I see it now. It hurts those who want to do whatever they do with young children who are being trafficked, it hurts the supply of illegal drugs for those addicted to them, and businesses that like to hire illegals so they can pay them less than minimum wage. Yeah, too bad for all of them.

You mean those 6,000 troops were actually placed at the border back in March?

No, I mean the agreement was made back in March.

You didn't know that because Donald didn't want you to.
