Their confidence was built when Moses proved God was with him. That's why they left Egypt.
Pretty sure most slaves would leave a cruel slavery if possible no matter who promised what.
If someone told you if you wanted to have eternal life, live the life God promised Abraham his seed would have, be fulfilled, perfected, you needed to stop placing your faith in your money and give it away, and follow Jesus, depend on Him, would you believe and obey him if he was in a pitiable state?
When I’m asked I’ll let you know.

It doesn't matter if it is an illustration. The fact is that when Christ took the curse on Himself, because Scripture says "Cursed is the man who is hung upon a tree", the curse/stripes/punishment healed our wounds. Since our wounds are our sins, he healed/cleansed us of our unrighteousness.
Who wrote sin=sickness? I know you think it is, but why did Jesus call sinners “evildoers” instead of saying the “infirmed?”

Exodus 4
1Then Moses answered, “What if they refuse to believe me or listen to my voice? For they may say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you.’”

It seems Moses thought it would happen that Israel would be reluctant to leave a bad place for an uncertain future. Known devil being better than the unknown devil is the general attitude. And God seemed to accept Moses's argument.

When I’m asked I’ll let you know.
Okay, I'm asking you now.

Well, He did call them sinners and He was their doctor. Who are we to say that it was a metaphor? I'll take his word for over yours any day.

And Scripture directly connected being hung on a cross with being healed of our wounds, and we know that the cross was a cure for our sins, spiritual problems, not medical ones. He was at great pains to show He was not here to empty hospitals or fill stomachs. The signs were used to convince people God was with Him. He was irritated when asked to show proof over and over again. "How long must I still be with you?" He complained. If you understand syllogisms I would put that in the form of a logical syllogism, but it only works with reasonable people.

I am taking his word at his word. He did not call himself their or any doctor. That is not his word you are taking.

But God does not see sins as being "cured." Illness is cured. Cheese is cured. Sins are forgiven, not cured. They are also repented of too.
He was at great pains to show He was not here to empty hospitals or fill stomachs.

Well so far you seem to think Jesus said things he did not say and people had attitudes that no one who was there thought they had.

One does not cancel the other out. Offer people freedom from cruel slavery on the day that it is obvious they are leaving and most will take it. I do not know why this concept is difficult to understand. Slaves prefer freedom when offered. The beginning of them realizing what God was doing and that God was doing needed some assurance. But on the day they marched out, no one needed that assurance anymore. Says that non-Israelies came too.
It seems Moses thought it would happen that Israel would be reluctant to leave a bad place for an uncertain future. Known devil being better than the unknown devil is the general attitude. And God seemed to accept Moses's argument.
IT does not say he had that attitude at all. Does not say that any of them thought this. The history of slaves running away if they could to a very uncertain future shows that your assumption does not match real people. Most leave bad places because they think anything is better than their bad place. This is easily understandable and seen throught the history of runnaway slaves.
Okay, I'm asking you now.
You are not God asking me to do something and cannot give me any grace nor do you have the authority to bad up any promise you give. Jesus asked men to give up and follow him. Paul did not ask men to give up and follow him. Neither did John, nor James nor Peter. They would not presume to do so. Follow Jesus? Yes. Follow them? No.

Either way you look at it the use of 'did' expresses that something was done to deserve either place. Some would call this a 'work'. ;)
Perhaps not "deserve", but rather "obtain" ...

This is the work of God ... that you believe upon whom He has sent.

John 6

28 Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”

29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

I am taking his word at his word. He did not call himself their or any doctor.
That is not his word you are taking.
Who is the doctor in this verse:

Luke 5
31And Jesus answered and said to them, "It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick.

But God does not see sins as being "cured." Illness is cured. Cheese is cured.Sins are forgiven, not cured. They are also repented of too.

The text says His punishment healed our wounds. The punishment is the stripes/cross, the wounds are our sins, since the cross took away our sins.

When did he mention hospitals?

He conveyed the idea that he did not see that it was important to fill stomachs. Why would He do that? Obviously it was because His mission was to use signs like Moses used signs, to convince people to leave Egypt/mammon/selfish living, and follow God instead. The same would apply for His performing of healing. He called it bread, for the children of Israel, to heal their stomachs, not to be given to dogs. He is actually equating healing with food, since he initially refused to give bread to the Syro-Phoenician woman, healing that would make her child well, without needing to go to a hospital.

Whew! It seems everything has to be spelled out for you.

He didn't say that when they wanted more signs. Do you know when he said it and to whom?

Mark 9
19“You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”

Did you ever attend Sunday school?

I am going to give you a hint to deal with pride. It is not relying on Christ in vague terms. It is in obedience to that things that are humbing for you. The Bible tells the proud to humble themselves, consider others better than yourself. There is no promise that the proud need to rely on Christ except when they know the HS (Christ) wants them to humble themselves in some deed or praise others and not themselves.

THe proud will never defeat pride by telling themselves that they are like Paul in some way and can make the same claims for their life that Paul used to describe his own. This is the opposite of humbling oneself. The best is to not think about yourself at all. The worst is claiming your life measures up to the words of Paul that described his life. And the worst about it all is that those who do so will find that God resists them and no grace is given them. God gives grace to the humble, not those who claim their lives are lived on a high spiritual plane.
I’m hoping that your intentions are good. But you don’t understand the gospel. And you certainly don’t understand what I said.

So he doesn't want help but just sympathy?

Well, the one to whom God says "well done" knows it is not mysterious and no one is being fooled, even them.
Sounds like fooling themselves.

Obedience to the standards of God is a burden that crushes even the most upright of common mankind. It is a weight that Israel could not bear.

Year after year, they were exposed to Law after Law, while being revealed that Atonement was the only thing that covered their failure.

In Hebrews 4, we find that Jesus is our Sabbath rest and restoral. We find that Jesus is our Noah’s Ark, to be stepped in, though it is the Holy Spirit that seals the door shut.

A man was caught picking up sticks on the Sabbath, and God commanded him stoned. This did not mean the man was damned eternally, but that God was issuing a warning to trust His future Sabbath provision. This man that was stoned may very well have been one drawn from Sheol, upon Jesus’ ministry to the dead souls, after His death on the cross. Many have found that God was affirming the danger of Carnally working out one’s own salvation on His Sabbath day. Jesus IS our Sabbath! Day after day, we ought rest in Him.

This world is a raging storm, but like Jesus amidst the storm, we are to rest in the boat, with Faith.

Peter could never walk on water and even when he did, it was faith in Jesus that held him up. As soon as Peter’s lamp to his soul turned inward, he began to sink. Even then, Jesus grasped him.

A Tower of Babel, built by human hands can reach outer space, but only Jacob’s Ladder reaches the third Heaven.

Going off the OP

28 Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice
29 and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment. - John 5:28-29

I think you are only considering the resurrection of life and not the other.

When you consider those who have done evil have 'obtained' resurrection of judgement, it doesn't quite make sense. :)
