There's a brief reference to the original Bible languages here.

Original Language Of The Bible

Note that Maccabees II and Wisdom were Deuterocanonical or Apocraphyl books depending on which side of the fence you're sitting on. They were written in Greek; all the rest were written in Hebrew.

This of course will bring up the old bun-fight about the Septuagint which according to Encyclopedia Britannica was
"...presumably made for the Jewish community in Egypt when Greek was the common language throughout the region....

Septuagint | biblical literature

The Vulgate Bible, which was the Latin translation used by the Catholic Church, was originally composed based on Greek translations by Jerome, but he later translated it from Hebrew sources, presumably as they became available to him.

One of the things that annoys me is the way some Protestants try to decry Catholic versions of the Bible, failing to realise the translators of the day had to work with the resources and languages of the time. Moreover the Catholic Church kept it going for 1500 years, before Luther and the printing press ever arrived on the scene. That's nearly three times the length of American history since Columbus sailed at the behest of Catholic Spanish royalty.

One of the things that annoys me is the way Catholics discount the entire Orthodox church for keeping the bulk of the Greek manuscripts that prior to the fall of Constantinople, the Greeks brought with them so many documents (Plato, Archimedes, as well as Scripture) that it kicked off the Renaissance. :crosseo:
