I did the research; Now you help me get the word out (BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!)

The World’s Largest Oil Reserves By Country

Proven oil reserves are those that have a reasonable certainty of being recoverable under existing economic and political conditions, with existing technology.

10. United States - 39,230 million barrels
9. Libya - 48,363 million barrels
8. Russia - 80,000 million barrels
7. United Arab Emirates - 97,800 million barrels
6. Kuwait - 101,500 million barrels
5. Iraq - 142,503 million barrels
4. Iran - 158,400 million barrels
3. Canada - 169,709 million barrels
2. Saudi Arabia - 266,455 million barrels
1. Venezuela - 300,878 million barrels
The World’s Largest Oil Reserves By Country

the above adds up to---- 1,304,838 million barrels

The total worldwide oil consumption was 93 million barrels per day (bbl/day) on average in 2015 according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

List of countries by oil consumption - Wikipedia

93 million a day X 356 days = 33,945 a year

1304838/33945 = 38 years

I mean, can't say I'm happy that corporations have stifled the advancement of technology to the point we're at this point and not using sustainable sources sooner, but hey, it'll be one less thing to fight over, or tolerate people over.

Look Saudi Arabia. Literally one of the most vile countries in the world run by tyrants and terrorists, yet they're allies to most of us in the West simply because of their oil and what they spend their oil money on(military equipment, for example, used to kill people for no reason).

The sooner we stop propping up toxic industries and start pursuing renewable and sustainable energy the better.

Coal is dead but brought back for political back-patting when it should have been left alone in its grave.

Oil should also stop getting special treatment, no matter how many pockets of politicians their money lines.

Not going to argue with this but it strikes me as curious that the future for our children is tied to oil consumption. I have lived probably more oil independent than most. A minimum consumer. I never felt very impoverished. Burned wood for heat and cooking, seldom drove very far, never in an airplane, some electricity (water powered), bathed in a river as the weather permitted. Not such a big deal. I'm ok with oil consumption, but I don't think the future will collapse if we have to lighten up on it. In fact I would really like to see something replace it. Don't know if it will.

I'm not worried, but only because I have no children and expect to be dead when this hits the fan. This will be a huge deal. Renewable resources will never save us. We can't survive at this population level without fossil fuels.

We've been able to use non-oil fuel sources since the 1900s and have developed more since then. If we run out of oil, it's good news.

You may want to read this article: Grassoline: Can we fuel cars with grass?

In the 1990s, I knew a man who built a steam engine for his car, and he drove the car back and forth to work running on water. When he applied for a patent with the U.S. Patent Office, his application was denied. They said it wouldn't work. Go figure. Me thinks someone wants us dependent on foreign oil.

The experts have been predicting that oil will run out in ten years--ever since it was discovered in Pennsylvania almost 200 years ago. I heard that exact prediction myself in the 1990s, and now this.

They keep finding more, so when it is said that 'proven reserves' will run out...it means nothing.

Know reserves with current technology.

Such a shame that there is zero oil exploration and no one working on drilling technology.

You are one of the fortunate few. If you have children, I hope you have a place for them too. For the rest of us this oil crunch will inevitably lead to war until there is no more fuel to power the tanks and planes. Then as a last resort someone is going to use the "bomb" and then a "bomb" in response; then the sky turns black, the sun don't shine while I move in with Eskimo's if, and only if, my cat can get along with their dogs.

People on the climate change agenda are getting us to where we need to be even though there is nothing we can do to alter the natural wobble in the climate cycle; yet this trend helps, so don’t block this debate, the result is the same.

The “green new deal” also accomplishes the same in the end.

You're ignoring that part of your OP: existing technology and existing economic conditions. There's more oil out there; it's just too expensive to procure given current oil prices. When oil prices go up, more oil becomes recoverable.

If our population increases by 50% in the next generation or so--as the liberals are determined to do--how do you imagine that this will affect the nation's need for energy??

We've apparently got massive deposits of shale oil in Australia, but the problem with shale oil is that it requires large amounts of water to get it out. And we're the driest continent on earth.

While electric cars seem to be the hyped future technology, I wonder if the materials used in making the batteries are in high supply. Personally I think we'll probably move more to hydrogen fuel cells for cars down the track, which no doubt will have problems of its own.

But we also need to redesign our cities and industry so we're not so reliant on transport which demands so much energy - for most of us to get around we push a ton of metal and plastic around with us. It's enormously wasteful.
