Many do not know that the Good NEWS of God's WORD is that JESUS came to save us from the power of sin and give us His Spirit as we believe and follow God's WORD...

JOHN 8:31-36
[31], Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, IF YOU CONTINUE IN MY WORD THEN YOU ARE MY DISCIPLES INDEED;
[32], AND YOU SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE.
[33], They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how say you, You shall be made free?
[34], JESUS ANSWERED THEM, TRULY TRULY I SAY UNTO YOU, WHSOEVER COMMITS SIN IS A SERVANT OF SIN.
[35], And the servant stays not in the house for ever: but the Son stays ever.
[36], IF THE SON SHALL MAKE YOU FREE YOU SHALL BE FREE INDEED.

Have you been given the gift of God's dear son? You shall know them by their fruits...

HOW DO WE KNOW IF WE KNOW GOD?

1 JOHN 2:3-4 [3], And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. [4], He that said, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

God bless

The Greek Word used for sin is missing the mark the Greek word used for iniquity is breaking God's Law. Sin is breaking God's Law because it is missing the mark. The mark in reference to 1 JOHN 3:4; ROMANS 7:7 is any one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is *ROMANS 3:20.
Look at the Hebrew words. Paul was a native Hebrew speaker and translated to Greek.

Sin = trying to obey but missing the mark. falling short in the attempt.
Transgression = intentional disobedience.
Iniquity = transgenerational effects of sins and transgressions.

Why are you trying to change God's definition of sin from God's Word when you have only been quoted Greek NEW TESTAMENT scriptures? Looking at the HEBREW word meaning does not change God's definition of sin which is breaking any one of God's 10 commandments or not believing and following God's Word.

Change? Really? Which came first - OT Hebrew or NT Greek?
Since everything in the NT Greek came from the OT Hebrew, why not go to the ORIGINAL?

ARE WE SAVED FROM SIN OR SAVED IN SIN (TO CONTINUE TO SIN)?
And yet another Salvation-by-Works Thread! No we are not saved in order to continue in sin. People continue quite well without being saved. Those of us who actually believe the gospel have been saved from the condemnation of sin as it says, "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death." Rom 8:1,2 The law of sin and death is that if you sin you are condemned. We believers are free from that law such that our fate is not a function of sinning. Rather, have been saved, and as such eternally secure, we are born of God which itself affects our lifestyle, as it is written, "No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God." 1John 3:9 And those who leave the faith were never really of the faith to begin with as it is written, "They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us." 1John 2:19

No surprise Salvation-by-Works Christians don't believe this as they don't believe the gospel of grace. In fact, just like their forefathers of the Christian sect of the Circumcision they discourage faith. While the kingdom of God is about joy and peace in believing (Rom 15:13), these others were anti-peace and joy resulting in Gai 4:15 What has happened to all your joy?

Yep really. Your trying to put a language word definition to sin and iniquity outside of the context of scripture definition to which they are applied. The Greek language of the NEW TESTAMENT scriptures directly define what sin is. There is no need to guess what sin is as God's WORD tells us in 1 JOHN 3:4; ROMANS 7:7; JAMES 2:10-11; ROMANS 3:20 and ROMANS 14:23. The NEW TESTAMENT was written in Greek not Hebrew brother.

Your claims in your post have no truth in them. This is not a salvation by work thread so please do not pretend that it is. If no one believes in salvation by works why do you pretend that they do and then try to make arguments no one is making (strawman alert)?

Now if we are in agreement that we are saved by grace through faith and not of works or of ourselves least any man should boast then you have no argument because we are both in agreement right?

Let's get this clear brother so there is no misunderstanding between us.

We are only saved by GRACE through faith and not of ourselves it is a gift of God *EPHESIANS 2:8. OBEDIENCE to God's LAW is not how we are saved it is the FRUIT of God's work in us as we BELIEVE and FOLLOW his WORD by faith that works by LOVE. This is God's work in us and a part of the NEW COVENANT promise *HEBREWS 8:10-12; PHILIPPIANS 2:13. If our faith has no fruit it is dead *JAMES 2:18-20; 26 and our tree will be cast down and thrown into the fire *MATTHEW 3:10; 7:19-20; 13:49-50.

In both the OLD and NEW TESTAMENT scriptures, REPENTANCE from SIN is a pre-requisite for salvation *ACTS 2:38; 3:19; 8:22; MATTHEW 3:2; 4:17; Mark 1:15; 6:2; Luke 13:3-5; PROVERBS 28:9-13; ROMANS 6:1-23.

According to God's WORD in the NEW COVENANT God's ETERNAL LAW (10 commandments) is the KNOWLEDGE of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTEOUSNES *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4; PSALMS 119:172.

The OP discussion is over SIN and is asking if we continue in known urepentant SIN are we in a saved state before God or an UNSAVED state before God?

Now rather then make things up that have no truth in them, did you have anything to share in relation to the OP?

So you're saying the scriptures I quoted have no truth in them.
Perhaps you need to re-read what was posted to you. I said the false claims you are making (salvation by works thread) have no truth in them and your trying to make strawman arguments no one is talking about.
And yet elsewhere you say it is. Why not chose a side? Must a person obey God's law in order to be saved?
If you want to contribute to the OP then read it and do so. If you do not please do not come here and make claims and false arguments no one believes or is making.

Now back to the OP what is your view?

Is someone who continues in known unrepentant sin in a saved state before God or an unsaved state before God? (Scripture please).

Does JESUS save us from sin or to continue in sin? The support scriptures are already provided in the OP if you wish to read them.

Thanks for sharing..

You can read the scriptures in the OP if you have none.
"No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God." 1JOhn 3:9

Those born of God simply don't have the ability to live in sin. This as opposed to the alternate (need I say "salvation-by-works) gospel whereby salvation is contingent upon one's ongoing performance.

Indeed in the present tense. What does it mean to be "BORN of GOD"? How do you know if you are BORN OF GOD and what is the evidence or fruit of being BORN of GOD?

You answered correctly. Those who are BORN of GOD do not practice sin which is defined in God's WORD as breaking any one of God's 10 Commandments *1 JOHN 3:4

Now, is a person who continues in known unrepentant sin in a saved state before God or an unsaved state before God? Are they the children of God or the children of the devil?

I noticed you did not answer the question to you in the last post did you wish to answer it now?

Is someone who continues in known unrepentant sin in a saved state before God or an unsaved state before God?

You do not have to answer the question if you do not wish to just say so. The answer to these questions show the difference between the children of God and the children of the devil *1 JOHN 3:6-10.

Did you wish to answer them? (scripture please)

You asked whether I answered the OP. The question you have as the Title of this thread is "ARE WE SAVED FROM SIN OR SAVED IN SIN - (TO CONTINUE TO SIN)?" I answered that question in #26.

You're unfamiliar with what it means to be born of God? As the verse I shared indicates it means that you're given a new nature. How do you become born of God? By faith.

"to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God." John 1:12,13 And "Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God" 1John 5:1

How do you know you're born of God? Because God promised people to be born of God if they believe in Christ. To doubt the promise is to doubt God. There's also effects of being born of God, as I noted in 1John 3:9 and also verse 10 "This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother."

Here let's break down your post section by section...
And yet another Salvation-by-Works Thread!
No this is not a salvation by works thread. Please do not pretend that it is.
No we are not saved in order to continue in sin.
Indeed! God's WORD defines sin as the transgression or breaking of anyone of God's Commandments *1 JOHN 3:4; ROMANS 7:7; JAMES 2:10-11 and UNBELIEF *ROMANS 14:23. Now you agree that if we keep 9 commandments and break one commandment as JAMES says we stand guilty before God of breaking all of God's commandments right? If so then the question we need to ask ourselves is are we keeping all of God's Commandments through faith or not? How do we know that we are the children of God or the children of the devil?
People continue quite well without being saved. Those of us who actually believe the gospel have been saved from the condemnation of sin as it says, "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death." Rom 8:1,2
Indeed, read a little further in the next verse on the reason WHY?...

ROMANS 8:4 [4], That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

This links into 1 JOHN 3:9 that we discussed earlier. SIN (breaking God's LAW or unbelief in God's WORD) is the difference between the children of God and the children of the devil *1 JOHN 3:10
The law of sin and death is that if you sin you are condemned.
Are you saying that if you sin then the wages of sin is not death *ROMANS 6:23? The law of sin and death is disobedience to God's LAW as the wages of sin is death to all those who reject the gift of God's dear son. ROMANS 8:4 that you left out earlier shows that there is no condemnation in those who BELIEVE God's WORD and have God's forgiveness so that the righteousness of the law might be FULFILLED in them. This links back to 1 JOHN 3:9 that we were discussing earlier and also ROMANS 3:31 and ROMANS 13:8-10.
We believers are free from that law such that our fate is not a function of sinning.
Can you please explain yourself here as this statement does not make much sense. Thankyou. Everone's fate is a funtion of sinning. Those who continue in known unrepentant sin will not enter the kingdom of heaven because by doing so they show they are not a child of God and reject the gift of God's dear son *1 JOHN 3:6-10; ROMANS 6:23; HEBREWS 10:26-27.
Rather, have been saved, and as such eternally secure, we are born of God which itself affects our lifestyle, as it is written
There is no scripture in all of God's WORD that says a BELIEVER cannot fall away to become an UNBELIEVER as shown through the scriptures a believer can fall away from God's WORD to become an unbeliever here click me.

HEBREWS 6:4-8
[4], For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
[5], And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

Who are we talking about here; BELIEVERS or UNBELIEVERS? The question your considering is; were these BELIEVERS and Born again christians. Lets look at the key points in these that describe who there people were from the scriptures...

1. They were once enlightened; v4
2. Having tasted of the Heavenly gift; v4
3. They were made partakers of the Holy Ghost; v4
4. Having tasted of the good Word of God; v5
5. Having tasted of the power of the world to come v5

So reviewing the CONTEXT of these scriptures we don't really need to say much they speak for themselves. These people were BELIEVERS that departed from GOD and became "UNBELIEVERS" returning back to a life of sin. These people are BELIEVERS as shown in the CONTEXT of v4-5 which continues...

[6], If they shall fall away, to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Yep, BELIEVERS having fallen away from the HEAVENLY gift back into sin..

[7], For the earth which drinks in the rain that comes oft on it, and brings forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receives blessing from God:
[8], But that which bears thorns and briers is rejected, and is near to cursing; whose end is to be burned.

Yep their end is to be burned does not sound like they will be going into God's Kingdom not having any REPENTANCE for sin (v6). These scripture are pretty rock solid I think and show that a BELIEVER can FALL AWAY back into SIN. Not sure why your having problems here brother to be honest.
"No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God." 1John 3:9
Thankyou this scripture supports the op here and shows the difference between the children of God and the children of the devil is sin.
And those who leave the faith were never really of the faith to begin with as it is written, "They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us." 1John 2:19
I love this scripture here but they do not support what you are claiming. Your reading the scriptures through a belief system that says that someone who is once a believer can never fall away to become an unbeliever. God's Word does not say anywhere that a believer stays a believer forever unconditionally and cannot fall away to become an unbeliever here click me.

God's WORD says from GENESIS to REVELATIONS all through the OLD and NEW TESTAMENT scriptures that BELIEVERS can fall away to become UNBELIEVERS. We are warned about this all through God's WORD. There is a reason for these warnings. To reject these warnings brother is to do so at our own peril. Let's look at 1 JOHN 2:18-19 in some detail and add context..

1 JOHN 2:18-19 [18], Little children, it is the last time: and as you have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. [19], They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

v18, Anything that is against Christ is antichrist. The Greek word used here is ἀντίχριστος antichristos which means against Christ of an opponent of the Messiah. If we no longer BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD then we are an "UNBELIEVER" and against Christ because we no longer BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD.

As shown in the scriptures [19], They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

What did they go out from? They went out from the truth. The problem was not that they went out from fellowship with the BELIEVERS. The problem was that they became "UNBELIEVERS" not BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's WORD!

The CONTEXT is that there is many antichrists and false teachers (ἀντίχριστος; antichristos; those who are against Christ and apponant of the Messiah. These are those who are AGAINST God's WORD.

They went out from the truth of God's Word and no longer believed and followed Gods' Word which made them not of us (UNBELIEVERS). If they contunued with us then they would be of us (by continuing to believe and follow the truth of God's Word) and would have been of us. No longer believing and following God's Word they went out from us. If you no longer believe and follow the truth of God's Word to the end then you are no longer of us.

Let's now link these scriptures back to the previous post in JOHN 8:31-36. Do you remember the conditions that JESUS states for those who are His DISCIPLES and as PAUL says CONTINUED WITH US?

JOHN 8:31-36 [31], Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, IF YOU CONTINUE IN MY WORD , THEN ARE YOU MY DISCIPLES INDEED;
[32], And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. [33], They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how say you, You shall be made free? [34], Jesus answered them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Whoever commits sin is the servant of sin. [35], And the servant stays not in the house for ever: but the Son stays ever. [36], If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

They went out from us because they were not of us. They went out from us (disciples) because they did not CONTINUE BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's WORD. As a result of no longer BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's WORD they left the truth.

What did they go out from? Yep you guessed it. They went out from BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's truth. The CONTEXT is that there is many antichrists and false teachers. They went out from the truth of God's Word and no longer believed and followed Gods' Word which made them not of us (Believers and followers of Gods' Word).
Now your making strawman arguments and claim again that have no truth in them. No one is arguing we are saved by works? Why do you pretend that they are? There is no such thing as once saved always saved however as this is not biblical and is is a false doctrine.

Hope this helps.

You were not asked how you are born of God now brother were you? You were asked what is the fruit of being Born of God. You did not answer the question did you and are trying to make claims again that no one has said and seeking to answer questions that no one has asked. If you do not want to answer the questions asked of you just say so.
God's WORD makes it very clear brother right? By their fruits you shall know them. SIN (breaking any one of God's 10 commandments and rejecting God's WORD) is the difference between the children of God and the children of the devil *1 JOHN 3:6-10 and as the scriptures teach elsewhere...

1 JOHN 2:3-4 [3], And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
[4], He that said, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

This is the test to know if we are God's children or the children of the devil. Guess we need to examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith or not.

According to God's WORD in the NEW COVENANT, God's LAW (10 commandments) gives us the KNOWLEDGE of what SIN is *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4. If we are CONTINUING in KNOWN UNREPENTANT SIN (breaking any one of God's 10 commandments) we are walking deadman because the wages of sin is death *ROMANS 6:23 to all those who reject the gift of God's dear son (the Word).

Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Are you saying that if you sin then the wages of sin is not death *ROMANS 6:23?
Not for those under the New Covenant. "because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death." Rom 8:2

This in contrast to the salvation-by-works position in which those in Christ Jesus are subject to the law of sin and death and thus they would say:
Everone's fate is a funtion of sinning.
Thus for them salvation is performance based salvation. It is contingent upon one not sinning. This in contrast to such verses as John 5:24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." Where one's fate is finalize upon coming to faith in Christ. Salvation-by-Works Christians make salvation contingent upon whether or not one sins. And much as you shift from claiming behavior is a fruit, you also make it a cause of salvation - thus Salvation-by-Works.
There is no scripture in all of God's WORD that says a BELIEVER cannot fall away to become an UNBELIEVER as shown through the scriptures a believer can fall away from God's WORD to become an unbeliever
1John 2:19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

1John 3:9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

Which of course you misconstrue as you do the other scriptures you mentioned which I cover at this link and this link

You make the typical errors Salvation-by-Works Christians make. Appending all instructions to Christians with "in order to be saved", confusing cause with effect (like making salvation contingent upon fruit rather than view fruit as a result of being saved), and confusing Old and New Covenants. All very typical.

Hopes this helps.

You were not asked how you are born of God now brother were you? You were asked what is the fruit of being Born of God. You did not answer the question did you and are trying to make claims again that no one has said and seeking to answer questions that no one has asked. If you do not want to answer the questions asked of you just say so.
Apparently you wrote that comment before reading the next paragraph I wrote in which I dealt with that question. Next time might want to read the whole thing before giving your knee jerk reaction. Pr 18:13 "He who answers before listening— that is his folly and his shame."

Your response...
Not for those under the New Covenant. "because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death." Rom 8:2
This in contrast to the salvation-by-works position in which those in Christ Jesus are subject to the law of sin and death and thus they would say

You probably need to read on a little further brother as posted earlier. You quote ROMANS 8:2 claiming as you say above that God's Spirit frees us from the LAW of sin and death. Yet it is the LAW of sin and death that gives us the KNOWLEDGE of what sin is in the NEW COVENANT *ROMANS 3:20; 1 JOHN 3:4.

If we through faith have received God's FORGIVENESS to WALK in God's SPIRIT to remain in Christ *ROMANS 8:1, then the scriptures teach that those who walk in God's Spirit do not fulfill the lust of the flesh *GALATIANS 5:16; 1 JOHN 3:6-10 and the very reason why we have received God's GRACE through faith to receive God's forgiveness is because the wages of sin death to all those who reject the gift of God's dear son *ROMANS 6:23. The reason for God's GRACE and forgiveness is shown in *ROMANS 8:4 that you left out of your post and is why you were encouraged to read a little further. We are given God's FORGIVENESS through faith

ROMANS 8:4 [4], That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Continuing and talking to BELIEVERS..

ROMANS 8:13 [13], For if you live after the flesh, you shall die: but if you through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live.

ROMANS 8:4 and ROMANS 8:13 link in with GALATIANS 5:16 [16], This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh and 1 JOHN 3:6-10 that define the children of God and the children of the devil and also to the scriptures in 1 JOHN 2:3-4 that show if we know God or do not know God.

You are confused dear brother. There is no such thing brother as salvation by works position. WE are saved by grace through faith and not of ourselves it is a gift of God and not of Works lest any man should boast *EPHESAINS 2:8. Unlike those who believe once saved always saved which is not biblical and has no foundation in God's Word.

God's Word does not say anywhere that a believer stays a believer forever unconditionally and cannot fall away to become an unbeliever here click me. If that were the case there would not be so many warning for BELIEVERS not to fall away and state that only those who endure temptation to the end receive enternal life *JAMES 1:12

LoveGodsWord said: Can you please explain yourself here as this statement does not make much sense.
Your response...
I can understand why you only part quoted me. I have added the full section of my quote your responding to above to show you have simply ignored this section and are making up strawman arguements no one is arguing about. How does your response here address what you are responding to? It doesn't because these scriptures do not support a once saved always saved teaching which is a false doctrine. All those who continue in known unrepentant sin will not enter the kingdom of God because they reject the gift of Gods dear son *ROMANS 6:23. They may have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof. JESUS came to save us from sin, not to continue in it.
1John 2:19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.
As posted earlier, your trying to post the scripture above to support a once saved always saved false teaching but in this scripture where does it show that these people that went out from us (believers) were never of us (believers)? The reason they were not of "us" believers is stated in the very same scripture which is that they went out from us. This supports the scriptures shared with you earlier that show only those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD to the end receive everlasting life

MATTHEW 24:13 [12], And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. [13], But he that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved.

MARK 13:13 [13], And you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure to the end, the same shall be saved.

HEBREWS 3:13-14 [13], But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. [14], For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end

HEBREWS 3:6 [6], But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

Sorry brother God's WORD disagrees with you and are do not agree with the false teachings of a once saved always saved teaching. Unlike this teaching we should believe and follow God's WORD over the teachings and traditions of men that seek to break the commandments of God *ROMANS 3:4
1John 3:9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.
Amen! Something we can agree on. What is sin in your view? Have a look at v4.

Which of course you misconstrue as you do the other scriptures you mentioned which I cover at this link and this link
Well that is not true my friend. You have been provided God's WORD that contradicts your interpretation of the scriptures as well as been shown the context you have leave out of your interpretation of the scriptures you are sharing here that you have not been able to address. You are free to believe as you wish. I do not judge you. We all stand before God come judgment day. God's WORD will be our judge at this time *JOHN 12:47-48. There is nothing covered that shall not be made known. Sadly it will be too late for many at this time *MATTHEW 7:22-23.

Woops there it is again. When someone is not able to address the scriptures that disagree with them then it is back to making false statements.

Sorry brother only God's WORD is true and we should believe and follow it *ROMANS 3:4

Hope this helps
