Interesting....quite similar to the push in California to break off the large coastal cities from the rest of the state. I guess the folks in Flyover Land are getting sick and tired of being walked on by the urban elite?

Illinois Republicans push bill to separate Chicago from rest of state: Rural areas 'not being equally represented'
I don't think it's 'Republicans' as much as 'rurals' who would happily ditch Chicago. I like visiting Chicago but I would hate to have it in my state. Happily it isn't.

Well, I'm no fan of Chicago, Lord knows....but it's better than Detroit, and that's a fact. Detroit is sort of like Vietnam: the minute you step off the plane, you're hit right in the face with the smell. Vietnam smells like rotting vegetation, sickening food odors, and animal manure; Detroit smells like mechanical grease, old oil, rotting garbage, and decaying buildings.
