Gun Violence: When Normal Becomes Unacceptable
The idea that grieving friends and relatives will be able overcome a powerful organization like the NRA who doesn't care about where its money comes from or how many people are killed is pretty much just wishful thinking.
Remember, America has the best government money can buy and the NRA, using money from both within America and from outside America, owns a substantial amount of that government. Members of Congress and and many presidents owe their positions to the backing of the NRA.
Funerals simply are no competition to money.
More and more often these days I'm reminded of this from our Founding Fathers:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."
