As the world’s attention turns to Beijing to mark the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre this week, Chinese officials continue their assault on religious freedom.

In recent weeks, churches across China have been told to close and the Government has censored all mention of the anniversary.

Please pray that our brothers and sisters in China will stand strong in their faith.

Release partner China Aid reports that Xunsiding Church in Xiamen city, in southern Fujian province, was banned last month. Government agents claimed that Pastor Yang Xibo and his congregation were meeting illegally under China’s 2018 Regulations on Religious Affairs.

In Zhengzhou, central Henan province, the authorities have claimed ownership of a huge state-run church (un-named in reports), valued at more than £1 million, and say they plan to turn it into a hotel. Meanwhile, a 100-year-old Xigu Church in the north-eastern city of Tianjin is threatened with demolition.

Last month, officials raided a church in Bijie, a mountainous area of Guizhou, southern China, removing its cross and confiscating all its belongings. Cross removals were also reported in Shandong and Henan provinces in April.

  • Praise God for the courage and faithfulness of our church family in China, who are standing strong against persecution. Ask Him to continue to strengthen and encourage them. Pray that the congregations facing closure will be allowed to worship in freedom.
  • Thank God that our partners report rapid church growth in rural areas of China in recent years.
  • Please pray for officials at the Chinese Embassy in London who will receive Release’s petition on June 28, calling on President Xi Jinping to repeal its 2018 religious regulations. There is still time to sign the petition here.
  • Please stand with us in marking the Day of the Christian Martyr with your church on June 29, by remembering modern-day Christian martyrs, in China and worldwide.

Meanwhile, I know people who plan on vacationing in China just to go party and drink...

Also, that's an old photo from the 80's maybe? I'm not sure what year. That explains the lack of quality. There was a huge protest in Tiananmen Square against the Communist government and the government responded by killing some of the protestors, I believe. This man became famous for his brave action of walking directly in front of a tank to show defiance.

Oh, and it's cropped to make it larger. The tank and man are much smaller in the original photo, so a lot had to be cut out to make them the focal point.

Amazing. For all the hi-tech cameras and surveillance China has, grainy photos is the best they can do?

Praying

Here you have a part of the video. It is a special case. Depends on who filmed it, if it was filmed by someone who had a normal camera?

Please pray that our brothers and sisters in China will stand strong in their faith.

I will pray. From what stories I have read about some of the persecuted chinese Christians, I admire much of their genuine and strong stand they have in their faith as well as in Christ. It is also very encouraging.

No matter how difficult it becomes for the persecuted Christians, they are still very blessed by God.

Just an off the wall notea. There is a guy whose vids I love to watch, called Dean Braxton. You can see him in a vid from CBN where his emergency care doctor says "It is a miracle..." that Braxton is alive and well in every way, since he was "really, really dead" for a long time. He had no heart beat and no respiration for 1 3/4 hours! That is why I take his story seriously about what He saw while he was away, in Heaven.

One thing he saw there was the prayers of the people of the earth. He said there was more prayer in China than anywhere, a lot more than in America. In China's distant past there is a history of Christianity, with a converted Christian leader. Some of their pictographs in their written language are based on Biblical themes, as with Noah and the Ark.

Yes, it's true about China's ancient Christianity. There was also an ancient group of Jewish people there and the ruins of a synagogue used to be visible until I think China pretty much built right over it.

One of my favorite books I read for a theology class detailed the beginnings of Christianity in various countries around the world. I learned a lot of things I'd never heard about like how early Christianity was virtually wiped out of Japan through massacres and that the Chinese referred to the Holy Spirit as the "Cool Breeze".

Makes you wonder sometimes... How can a country so completely ignore a part of it's own history? They revere their ancestors so much, but those people were also their ancestors!

And yet again this makes me wonder why US Christian bible publishers have their bibles printed in China.
Well, the question remains why we have any books published in China at all... I think it only became more common in the 2000's. Aside from the twisted economical situation we've got today which may make it more cost efficient, we certainly have the resources for publishing our own books.

I always thought perhaps Christian publishing companies used that as an inroads perhaps, but I always kind of doubted it, too.

I personally try to buy as few things as I can from China, though it's impossible to avoid completely unless you're filthy rich.

I didn't know Japan ever had a Christian heritage. However - it's been a long times so I don't remember where - I have seen pictures of objects beings used in their rituals which are very much like the Ark, and other such Torah stuff being used.

One thing I find especially fascinating in terms of the spread of the Word, is that the word "HalleluYah" is found all over the globe in different cultures, even with the Cherokees, and generally means the same thing always.

Well, I always assumed that the word "HalleluYah" was simply borrowed by many languages because it was never translated into a different word. Kind of like personal names in the Bible are simply adapted to a language and may change sound slightly rather than being replaced with a native name having the same meaning. But I really don't know...

It is fascinating that so many Christians around the world use the word as a word of praise and understand it as that without really questioning it or saying it sounds weird too use in worship...

Yeah, the history of Christianity in Japan is pretty sad actually. I think it was European traders who abused the people and the Japanese assumed Christianity was synonymous with European peoples, so every Japanese person who had converted was looked at as a traitor to the emperor and they were effectively rounded up and massacred and Christianity never really thrived there again.

Interesting about Japan. Sad. In case you don't already know by the way, HalleluYah is Hebrew for "Praise Yah", aka Yahweh, or Yahuah as my personal research leads me to believe it was pronounced.
I actually did have sort of an idea of what the word meant. So is "Hallelu" praise in Hebrew?
