To Those Who Are Willing to Hear:

John 3:16 has to be read in light of John 3:19-21.
John 3:20 says that all who do evil hate the light and neither comes to the light unless his deeds are reproved.

John 5:24 says,

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."

This means that we have to HEAR (obey) His Word in order to have everlasting life (See Luke 10:25-28, and Matthew 19:17-19).
For Jesus says that the one who does not receive His words, those words will judge them on the last day (See John 12:48).

So if one does not receive the words of Jesus that say if you do not forgive, you will not be forgiven (Matthew 6:15), these words will judge them. If one does not receive the words of Jesus on Matthew 25:31-46 to help the poor, we can be punished in everlasting fire.

Jesus says the same thing in John 8:47. He that is of God hears God's words.

1 John 3:10 says,

"In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother."

So belief is more than just having a belief in the person of Jesus for salvation, but belief would include believing in the teachings of Jesus. For Jesus said, why do you call me Lord, Lord if you do not what I say? (See Luke 6:46).

As for Eternal Security Proponents who quote Acts of the Apostles 15:10:

Again, if a person were to read the actual chapter, they would realize that they were arguing against "Circumcision Salvationism."

  1. Acts of the Apostles 15:1 says, “And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.”

  2. Acts of the Apostles 15:5 says, But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.”

  3. Acts of the Apostles 15:24 says, “Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:”

Paul also argued against "Circumcision Salvationism." It is was the context of his mention of "law" and "works" when he spoke of those words generically. See Galatians 2:3, Galatians 5:2, Romans 3:1, etc.

Galatians 5:2 ; Galatians 5:6 ; Galatians 5:12 ;

And again... which HEART Ventricle should we sever? Romans 2:29

Which Eye should we gouge out?

Matthew 5:29

Shall we OBEY every word of Jesus Perfectly to be saved?

Should not really post...well.. if asked about denomination. My answers is .. I am a follow of Yeshua/Jesus Christ. I will say this.. a man very well known when asked about a group. Cant the be right about Jesus just wrong about Mary or can't they be a good Christian just a bad (insert group). There are those that KNOW the truth.. follow preach teach a lie.. mislead.

The gospel... Yeshua came in the flesh. Died on the cross for the worlds sins. Was buried. Rose the 3rd day. Is the only way to the Father. Now.. things get added to that.. books get added. As Christ said..if you were BLIND you would have no sin. You say you see..your sin remains.

Amen!

I imagine one should be inclined to "go and sin no more". ;) (And yet... we walk by faith and not by site) :D

Attn: Gospel subject to Legal underwriting fine print. :help:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.

John 3:16 subset (A)... legal underwriting... This Complete Policy is thus revealed as unlimited until it's no longer unlimited, upon acceptance of it's limitless clause, which thus, duly reverts it back to a "Limited" clause. Thus you, the Salvee, accepts this "partially free" gift that was hereby ratified as free, by the Divine attorney, who deemed it a free offer, but due to Spiritual constraints and a desire to prevent exhaustion of Divine Righteousness offered in "Asset Clause", from "Righteousness" Annuity, that is globally offered, but individually received, must understand that thus this "unlimited asset" is limited upon acceptance.

- Signed by The Management

Galatians 1:1-6
The Paul clause: any attempt to alter the "Free Gift" upon "Belief clause" will duly be rendered per the Galatians 1.1.6 clause, and all Righteousness promised by Jesus, is thus reinstated to the insuree... in full, under the Divine gift clause.

Jesus also said in verse 8 that you must be born of the Spirit. Paul discusses this in Romans 8.

“Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh- for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

To Those Who Are Willing To Hear:

For Belief Alone Proponents who quote Matthew 13:19 in defense of their belief:

Well, little do they realize that those who do not understand are those mentioned in 1 Timothy 6:3-4.

Paul says in 1 Timothy 6:3-4 that if anyone does not agree with the words of Jesus Christ, and the doctrine according to godliness, they are proud and they know nothing.

James 4:6 says God resists the proud and he gives grace to the humble.
So is it humble for a person to justify sin?
Surely not. A person seeks to overcome grievous sin with the Lord as Scripture teaches (Galatians 5:24, 1 Peter 4:1-2).

In regards to the Belief Alone Proponent's quote of Matthew 13:25-26:

The explanation of the Parable of the Weeds (or Tares) makes it clear that the angels will gather those individuals (the weeds) up because they "offend" (do sin willfully or to justify sin) and they do iniquity (commit various sins willfully or they justify their sins) and thus they will be cast into the furnace of fire where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.

40 "As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth."
(Matthew 13:40-42).

In Matthew 25:30, the unprofitable servant is cast into outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.

In Matthew 5:22, saying to your brother that they are a fool is enough to be cast into hell fire.
This confirms 1 John 3:15 (after the cross), whereby John says that if we one hates their brother, they are like a murderer, and no murderer has eternal life abiding in them.

As for Belief Alone Proponents quote of Matthew 16:6:

This is talking about how one needs to beware of the doctrine of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.

In Matthew 23:23 (cf. Luke 11:42), we learn that the Pharisees had ignored the weightier matters of the Law like love, faith, justice, and mercy.

Jesus said of the Jews.

"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." (John 8:44).

John says all liars will have their part in the Lake of Fire (Revelation 21:8).
John does not say there is another group of liars who will miss out.

When Belief Alone Proponents quote Hebrews 4 in defense of their belief:

Well, they have to also read Hebrews 3:12-14, and Hebrews 10:26.

The KJV is better on this one. Romans 8:1 in the KJV mentions further conditions that we are to walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh (sin) as a part of not being under the Condemnation. Also, if we are in Christ Jesus, we have to prove that Christ is in us by the test of 1 John 2:3-4 (Which is keeping His commandments). Somebody that says they can break His commandments on occasion and still be saved is not keeping them. They are willfully declaring to sin again. Hebrews 10:26 warns that if we willfully sin, there remains no more sacrifice for sin.

The Catechism section I directed you to flatly contradicts what you said,.................. So man up: study the Catholic Catechism, and admit that you were wrong when you said that the Catholic Church "teaches that understanding and participating in those higher truths is necessary for salvation." And then ask yourself how familiar you can be with Catholic teaching when you got this obvious one so badly wrong.
I have manned up. :)

I'm always in need of education in doctrinal matters - but I don't always take the time. Thank you for prodding me to do so in this case. I must admit that I had not studied the Catechism before - although I have studied and discussed Roman Catholic beliefs and teachings quite a bit.

The "Catechism of the Catholic Church" you referred me to is a source of teaching material recommended and developed by a special commission and approved by Pope John Paul II in 1992.

It mentions the Council of Trent some 70 + times and always in a positive light.

For the record - are you suggesting that this 1992 teaching aid cancels the various curses officially levied against various Protestant beliefs?

The various official Roman Catholic curses against me range from such divers Protestant activities and teachings as teaching that good works do not merit justification, teaching that the "sacraments" number more or less that exactly seven, denying the supposed truth of the Roman teaching about so called "transubstantiation", denying the infallibility of the Pope, and the evangelizing of nuns.

All of these and more am I guilty of - and so are most Protestants.

You obviously have an inside track, being catholic yourself. But I believe you are wrong about this.

It is my understanding that the curses cannot be reversed and certainly have not been reversed by a simple teaching tool in the form of the "Catechism of the Catholic Church".

Please "man up" when you get the time. Check it out and you'll see that I'm right.

To Anyone Who Will Hear:

As for Belief Alone Proponents who say Jesus coming to be a healer of sinners:

They have a different idea of what this means vs. what the Bible says. They believe they can willfully sin on some level and still be saved. However, in reality, Jesus is our Physician because Jesus has come to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). This would be the works of the devil in a believer's life. For Paul says sin shall not have dominion over you (Romans 6:14). For Jesus says he that sins is a slave to sin (John 8:34).

For they that are Christ's have crucified the affections and lusts (Galatians 5:24).

Note: I believe this to be grievous sin that the Bible mentions as being attached with dire after life consequences to one's soul (See: Galatians 5:19-21).

What you've done isn't preaching the cross. Quite the opposite, you've preached Christianity as a therapeutic model of moral rearmament... which is why non-Christians don't find stuff like...

"Please understand that it is not possible for a person to obey God's commands without them first being saved by Jesus Christ and His grace" ~ Jason0047

... persuasive in the least. If anything, they feel affirmed by their own perceived moral virtue as you yourself describe it in post #243 rather than recognize their need for a savior.

Not sure it is worth arguing with you. I believe that a person is saved first by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ and believing in His death and resurrection for salvation. I believe this is the Process of Justification. We cannot be saved without this Process taking place first. Believing in Jesus's death and resurrection is the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). THEN after a person is saved by God's grace through faith, they then go through the Sanctification Process (Which is living holy by the Spirit). Other Catholics have agreed with me before on this point, so I am not sure why you are disagreeing me unless you are a part of some strange sect of Catholicism or something. In either case, I disagree with Catholicism on the grounds that they include church traditions that violates God's Word (like prayers to Mary, the saints, bowing down to statues, men dressing up in holy outfits, forbidding to marry, forbidding to eat meat, calling men their father, etc.). I believe in Sola Scriptura or the Bible Alone because the Bible has proven itself to be divine in origin tens times over. Church traditions of any religion cannot prove that their man made additions are divine in origin like the Word of God is.

To All Who Will Hear:

The "Belief Alone = Salvation" Proponent will propose that the "Faith + Works of Faith = Salvation " Proponent is admitting that they are entirely sinless and better than other Christians. Not all sin is the same. I explained this at length with Scripture already in Post Numbers 243, and 244. Also, believers can sometimes sin on occasion, but this is not supposed to be the norm. For Paul says we used to be sinners (Ephesians 2:2-3) (Colossians 3:5-7). Peter says that If a believer sins, they are supposed to confess of their sin (1 John 1:9), and forsake it (1 John 1:7, 1 John 2:1) (Also see: Proverbs 28:13).

As for the Belief Alone Proponents common false use of the works of the flesh in reference to good works:

Actually, the Bible says the works of the flesh are certain sins (See: Galatians 5:19-21).

As for the Belief Alone Proponent's mention of Humility:

It is not the same as the Bible's teaching on humility.
Again, 1 Timothy 6:3-4 teaches that being proud (the opposite of being humble) is to NOT agree with the words of Jesus Christ and the doctrine according to godliness.
Most Belief Alone Proponents I have encountered speak against the words of Jesus in Luke 10:25-28, Matthew 19:17-19, Matthew 5:22, Matthew 12:37, Matthew 25:31-46.

As for the Belief Alone Proponent's View on the Lord's Commandments:

Many of them are confused on this issue. They think God's commands are the Law of Moses (Which is no longer in effect in regards to salvation). Others in the Belief Alone Camp think the NT Law is in effect, but not many. But they all think that obedience to God's commands does not deal with eternal life (Which runs contrary to the words of Jesus - Luke 10:25-28, Matthew 19:17-19, and the words of their followers like John - 1 John 2:3-4, 1 John 3:15, etc.).

Many Belief Alone Proponents I have encountered have mocked the believer's walk in striving to live holy. Yet, they fail to understand that without holiness, no man shall see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). They fail to understand that he that does righteousness is righteous (1 John 3:7).

When will the list of acceptable sin be drafted?

To All Who Will Hear:

The "Belief Alone = Salvation" Proponent will propose that the "Faith + Works of Faith = Salvation " Proponent is admitting that they are entirely sinless and better than other Christians. But not all sin is the same. I explained this at length with Scripture already in Post Numbers 243, and 244. Also, believers can sometimes sin on occasion, but this is not supposed to be the norm. For Paul says we used to be sinners (Ephesians 2:2-3) (Colossians 3:5-7). John says that If a believer sins, they are supposed to confess of their sin (1 John 1:9), and forsake it (1 John 1:7, 1 John 2:1) (Also see: Proverbs 28:13).

Again, 1 Timothy 6:3-4 teaches that being proud (the opposite of being humble) is to NOT agreeing with the words of Jesus Christ and the doctrine according to godliness.

Please take note that I fixed a few typos from my previous post (leaving it blank), and reposted my post again here.

I'm so excited! What is the minimum exceptionable Sin Ration?
