Pray that these wicked songs will depart from my head.

I listened to so many anti-Christian and hateful songs in my agnostic phase that now Satan's using the songs to discourage me from every angle possible. I need prayer, please.

Why is it discouraging you? Let them not be a cause of discouragement, but rather a cause to push you into the arms of the Lord and his already-overcoming Work. In everything give thanks. That includes any thing that is of a sin nature that is bothering you. Thank God that such things push you into His arms.

The presence of such songs in your head is one thing, allowing them to discourage you is another. Do not give them the prominence by concentrating on them, by focusing and keeping your eyes on them. Whatever you have your eyes set on, that will be the major influence in your life. Rather, keep your eyes on Christ, just as Peter shifted his focus from the storm to Christ when he was sinking.

Being concerned about sin is not the same as allowing sin or something sinful to discourage you.

The presence or absence of such songs in your head is not the measure of your salvation or sincerity. What concerns God is whether or not you have simply surrendered their presence in your head to Christ and are rejoicing and giving thanks for that victory that is already yours.

Great encouragement! I'm gonna be reading 'Cross Centered Life' by C.J. Mahaney and see if his insights can illuminate my mind into a closer relationship with Christ.

stay encouraged. never heard of that book or author. hope it contributes to your growth in the Lord.

If you don't already have one, develop a daily devotional program. By program I mean scriptural/Christian material (written material with or without audio or video material), that will bring your thoughts to where they should be and that will strengthen your faith and resolve as you begin your day. Such material includes Scripture of course, but should also include godly insights/revelations you receive and that you need reminding of often (we all need to be repeatedly reminded of Godly truths) :)

God bless, and expect and thank God for being used today and everyday for the Kingdom of God, either or including, by and through prayer, word, or deed. Everything Changes when we know and expect to be used daily to bear fruit. Remember that Jesus professed that doing the will of God is spiritual food indeed (John 4:32).

God bless. I'll be on a ride to distract myself from these forums and to focus on what's real. (Not to dis the CF; it's awesome; it's just that I need time away from time to time.)

This is an easy one. All those reminders from the past can be turned into prompts that bring your closer to the Lord. Simple. When those songs come, start singing praise songs! This will bless you and the devil will hate it. Now, be discriminating about what you sing as, mho, not all "Christian" songs really are very Christian.

Scripture-only songs are great. Here are some you can get a feel for, and there are tons of them on YouTube....

. I think it really helps to sing TO the Father and His Son instead of about them. For example you can change "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands" to "You've got the whole world in your hands...." and so on.

Singing is a form of spiritual warfare. David sang over King Saul to give him relief from evil spirits. Paul and Silas were miraculously released from prison while singing praise songs. When King Jehoshaphat, of ancient Israel, saw vast armies coming against his little nation, he sent out priests to carry the ark before them and sing praise songs. The result? The armies turned against one another and destroyed one another totally. In addition, the Israelites picked up 3 days worth of booty from their camps!
And, of course I pray that you will "be transformed by the renewing of your mind...."
