I heard in some places where they say that doing youtube is a sin is this true?
It depends on what we want to watch. I love the history videos and there are a lot of Christian ministry videos that are great. It is like driving a motor car. It can be used to get us from A to B in style, or it can be used as a weapon to kill someone.

What nutty legalism that sounds like. "doing youtube is a sin" that can mean anything from watching a Christian video on youtube to making a inappropriate contentographic video and putting it on youtube, along with everything in between.

Simply using youtube is not a sin, though how a person uses it might be.

Why would it be a sin? Youtube is video. Is video a sin? So you never watch a movie, or TV, or the news, or sports, or anything? Because all of those are video, right?

Now if you are watching half naked chicks on a beach somewhere... that's sin, but not because it's youtube, it's because you are lusting after half naked chicks on a beach. You can do that at a Movie, or a TV program, or even the news, depending on the "news item" of the day.

But if you are watching sports highlights, what's the problem?

When your video editing software crashes and burns and you lost 20+ hours of work....

When you thought you shot enough B roll, and you don't have anywhere near enough...

You will be tempted to cuss, especially so if you are running out of time. In that regard, producing youtube video could very easily become a sinful endeavor.

In all seriousness though, video takes a ton of work. There is a reason movies involved hundreds if not thousands of people to pull off. Even the simple music videos I produce for a local tv station require a ton of time, and that's with highly experience people, and some really expensive equipment and editing suites. For my typical 28 minute segment, it takes 4-6 hours of video, 20-30 hours of editing, and another 10 in logistics, story telling, planning etc.

Someone doing the same at home with consumer level gear for youtube is likely to spend 10X that amount in time, until they get enough experience under their belt, and even then, its still a very time intensive endeavor.

As such, folks unfamiliar with the time involved, are likely to give a side eye to those who make youtube videos. They think a 10 minute video should be able to be made in 15 minutes... so when it takes a day, they are often critical, and become accusatory as to someone being lazy or wasting time. It doesn't take a critical person much further to say that such is sinful. Its really not though, provided you aren't using video production to avoid other more important matters etc.

The videos i make are simple and maybe take 15 minutes of editing barely anything major. But yeh i get what you mean that you will swear if ur editing software crashes when u have a long video. so this basically is sinful?

I was joking with that... but yes, video software can and does crash, and unless you have some form of backup / mirroring going on in the background, you will loose your work, and its frustrating as all get out.

The thing is, life is frustrating, you can mow your lawn, and the neighbors dog will come and take a dump on it. You can wash your car and a bird will make a mess of it. You can drive your car, and someone cuts you off. None of these things is sinful. However, if one lacks self control, and swears out of the frustration, that is sinful, but that is not because one engaged in the activity, its because one is lacking in self control.

When I was at uni, I had a part time job where I worked construction... and like all n00bs, you will hit your thumb with a hammer fairly often. The general reaction to such is to swing your arm and cuss a bit as it hurts like crazyu. However, when you are working way up in the air (and this was before the era of fall protection harnesses), if you swing your arm and cuss, its really easy to loose your balance... and if you loose your balance, its a long way to the ground. I learned not to react pretty quickly as a result, No cussing, no swinging your arm, just rub your thumb a bit and continue on.

YouTube is my has always been my favourite social media site and it still is. An awesome website where you can watch anything you want. As for the question itself, is it serious or is this a troll thread?
Serious some people have told me it was a sin bcs of how much bad stuff is apparently uploaded on youtube. so i just wanted to make sure it wasn't a sin.
Also i kinda forgot to write this i was also asking if it was a sin to Upload videos and not just watch videos.

I can tell you it may not be a sin to watch it. However if you make it an idol, its a sin. And some of the content is questionable. I have a few Youtubers I like but they are starting to swear more and now saying Gods name in vain and I've had to remove them from my subscription list.
