Of course we are saved by faith and not works. He was often displeased with Israel, however, when they were in sin. My answer...I am uncertain. Guess it is best to avoid being in that position. :)

Obedience to God pleases Him:

"...we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more." (1 Thessalonians 4:1).

Speaking of thankful prayer:
"... is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior." (1 Timothy 2:3).

"...walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. (Colossians 1:10).

"Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord." (Colossians 3:20).

"And whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him." (1 John 3:22).

"But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show godliness to their own household and to make some return to their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God" (1 Timothy 5:4).

"...equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen." (Hebrews 13:21).

"Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God." (Hebrews 13:16).

This confirms two other truths in the Bible:

God is against wickedness:

"...God is angry with the wicked every day." (Psalms 7:11).
"For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry."
(1 Samuel 15:23).
"And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
(Matthew 7:23).

God desires us to labor to be accepted by Him:

"Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him."
(2 Corinthians 5:9).

1 "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." (Romans 12:1-2).

"For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men."
(Romans 14:18).

I hope this helps someone today.

May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you all.

Luke 15:7 "I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance."

The gospel is the death burial and resurrection of Christ 1 Cor 15:3-5 and the gospel must be obeyed, 2 Thess 1:8 and those that obey the gospel bring joy to heaven.

Yes... It is the good news of what God has done for us by sending Jesus and how he loved the father so obeyed him unto death and made the way of salvation available to All. =Grace. Coupled with instructions of how we are to avail ourselves of that grace By the action we take based on whether or not we believe JESUS who was sent to save us.
That action.is called Faith...
It includes repentance, water baptism, recieving the holy Spirit and going on to learn a life of increasing obedience free from sin.
For by grace are you saved through faith..

One follows the other...
Never are they seperate.

Part of the gospel is believing Christ died for us for salvation (Note: The other half of the gospel is believing in His resurrection on our behalf; See 1 Corinthians 15:1-4). We learn in Ephesians 5:25-27 that the reason (or purpose) Christ died for us was to sanctify us with the "washing of the water of the Word" (i.e. Obedience to the commands of Jesus and His followers according to the NT Scriptures) so that Christ may present to Himself a church that is holy.

25 "...even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish." (Ephesians 5:25-27).

2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 says,

13 “...God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
(2 Thessalonians 2:13-14).

Scripture says that our God would count you worthy of this calling and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness, according to the grace our God:

11 “Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:
12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thessalonians 1:11-12).

The "grace of our God" is in essence or the heart of the gospel.
So God's grace and works of faith are connected to each other (Note: see the words "work of faith with power" in verse 11). James says in James 2:18 that he will show us his faith by his works. This is not just any ordinary obedience or any ordinary works as a person defines it on their own, but it is the works (or obedience to the commands of Christ and His followers) as laid out in Scripture.

True.

Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will … - Ephesians 1:4-5.

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 8:38-39.

We cannot be righteous on our own. Jesus is our righteousness.

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. - 2 Corinthians 5:21

So His delight in us doesn't have anything to do with our abilities to do good. It has do with our being washed clean by Jesus.

A person can only be righteous or obedient (i.e. They can only live holy by God's commands) if they first accept Jesus as their Savior. A person cannot obey the Lord without first being forgiven or having their past slate of sin cleaned (via by believing the gospel, i.e. believing in His death and resurrection for salvation, Note: This sometimes can also include calling on the Lord Jesus to forgive us of our past sins - generally speaking).

But believers can be righteous by doing righteousness: For 1 John 3:7 says, "he that does righteousness is righteous."; And 1 John 3:8 says that, "he that commits sin is of the devil." In fact, the test to know the difference between God's people and the children of the devil is 1 John 3:10.

For 1 John 3:10 says,

"In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother" (1 John 3:10).

Jason,

I BELIEVE... Jesus is Sufficient to Save. However, for the sake of discussion...

Let's say I read what you are writing, note I have sin in my life and decide from your writing that I'm not good enough for God and Salvation...

Could you please, without refrain Make a LIST of the Commands required to "Re"Obtain my salvation?

Mind you, I really thirst for union with God... and I don't want to "Miss the Mark"... please make this list clear, specific and guaranteed to "Save" me.

These go together nicely,

For
the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

Just as it speaks of his resurrection and his receiving gifts for men (even the rebellious)

Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.

So the rebellious is mentioned (above) just as he received sinners (and because he is good and upright he teaches sinners

Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.

Which is the riches of his goodness, all part of his forebearance and his longsuffering

Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering;

Not knowing what?

Not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

His gifts and calling are without repentance but the end goal of his goodness is to lead us to repentance, and his longsuffering towards us is to be accounted as salvation as Peter confirms,

And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

This longsuffering is "us-ward" is his not willing that any should perish but to come to repentance

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

As it might relate to his pleasure, He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked but that the wicked turn, or repent which is the end goal.

God’s pleasure with us is not based on our performance.

God's pleasure is in His creation:
Psalm 19
The heavens are telling the glory of God;
and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.

God took great pleasure in His Son:
Matthew 3:17
And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."

Jesus Christ of Nazareth did a great work for humanity by the pleasure of the Father for us.
Luke 2:49
And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”

The least we could do is follow suit. Obedience through performance. Submission to what is heard. To be accountable for our actions. To achieve greater sanctification through reverence.
John 14:15
“If you love me, you will obey what I command.” John 14:15
