It does my heart good to see something positive happen to people who do not want to live in America. good for them, I hope the cartels use the money widely.

That's harsh man.

I keep my money in Wells Fargo; still have all of it too.
I have Wells Fargo, Bank of America, TD, Santander, PNC, HSBC, Citibank, M&T, Ally, and the best one - Chase. HSBC is British. Santander is Spanish. TD is quasi-Canadian. Wells Fargo is a bunch of thieves so watch them closely. Chase is the best of all of them. Bank of America is not bad but they are greedy and could be thieves. PNC is OK but not great. Citibank is OK. M&T is OK. Ally is good.

BOA doubled my mortgage when they purchased Countrywide and I lost my house three years later after paying them more than what I had originally owed Countrywide when they took over Countrywide’s debt. My daughter has PNC as well as Navy Federal CU; I have a small (two branch) local credit union and a small bank in Arkansas but have been with Wells Fargo since 1991. Never had any problems, they didn’t issue fraudulent credit cards or loans in my name and gave me a home loan in 2017 and we closed after a little one a month (35 days). Have a Citi card through Costco but do not have any other banking with them. Lost a lot when Chase bought Washington Mutual so they are a no go for me. I had a Panamanian bank account when I was stationed there but closed it when I left the country due to the tax problems that come up with foreign accounts, never had more than $500 in there; it was just convenient because panama used the US Dollar.

WaMu was a great bank. I don't understand how you lost money when Chase bought them out (I believe you but just don't understand how). Chase does not give good rates or deals unless you have tons of money with them (and I don't) but for decades now they have been the best service by far of any bank - they do anything to help me and their online banking is easy and good, also I like their rewards credit cards (Sapphire and United Airlines). They are not cheap but they are reasonable and the service has been great.

I do my investing through Schwab which is great brokerage and IRA accounts. Also good for IRA is TD Ameritrade. I also use Aspiration bank which is a great online bank. I have several savings accounts that earn 2% or more interest - you can check out on nerdwallet.com or bankrate.com. I use Alliant Fed Credit Union, also Yieldstreet which is giving 2.2% on money saved with them, also My Savings Direct which is 2.4%. That's just savings, not investments, so it's just liquid cash. Some of them also give a no-fault CD at higher interest so that if you default on the term they don't penalize you, you just stop getting the CD interest rate.

Wells Fargo is a good bank but they did some bad things. I'm glad you had good experience with them. By the way I understand your "schtick" here, I enjoy it very much, lol.

The majority of the Wa Mu money was not in FDIC insured accounts. It was IRA and mutual funds. I moved to Michigan from Washington in 2008and the news of the collapse did not reach us until it was too lake to rush to the branch and withdraw whatever we could like the millions of people that were able to do so in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and California.

My only complaint about Wells Fargo is that they sold my closest branch to Flagstar Bank, now instead of a quick 4 hour trip to La Port Indiana; I have a grueling 7 hour drive to Milwaukee Wisconsin.

Shtick? Shirley you must be kidding.

From what I seen about Mexico, it's a nice country. With a slower work pace. I wouldn't call enjoying a different country a bad thing. Also people in America get ripped off all the time. I hope they can get some of their money back.

Ah I see re WaMu. Sorry that that happened to you! I have lived in NJ all my life but back in the 2000's I traveled more than 50% for work - a lot was to Seattle area. I opened a WaMu account because of that, and later when they were bought Chase merged my WaMu into my Chase account, so I didn't have any problems.

Re Wells Fargo, they are new to my area so I opened accounts based on good incentives they gave me for credit card and checking. I just wait for these deals where they give you cash to open an account (usually $200 to $400) then after opening the account I save it to use for budgeting, it's easier to not touch them this way. A lot of the online stuff is great. But if Wells weren't in my area I would probably close them.

I lived in South Jersey, mile 0 on the Turnpike 2010-2013. There was a Wells Fargo near Margate or Ventnor.

I think we have hijacked the thread…

EDITED - Oops I didn't see you said "lived" past tense...

Still, I love Cape May. I love Margate especially, my roommates at Rutgers were from there so I have spent many summers there over the decades. Ocean City, too. Beautiful.

Yeah I think we did hijack the thread, LOL - oh well
