Is straight premarital sex okay or not as bad as homosexual sex?

I know several Catholics (both men and women) that most definitely or definitely had and are having premarital sex. They are straight. I asked a few when discussing sins to see what they thought about it and they said stuff like "well... as long as you don't do it in excess or become addicted to sex then having premarital sex is okay". These weren't priests btw, just average Christian men.
But I've heard these same people speak harshly against homosexuality. Also tons of young Christians are very openly against abortion rights and against being transgender because those are allegedly "sins", but these same Christians have premartial sex.

I've been raised to believe that sex outside marriage is a sin, although right now I can't think of what specific Bible texts say this. So I was wondering, is premartial straight sex somehow less of a sin than homosexual sex (and abortions and living as the opposite sex and other current issues that many young Christians firmly oppose)?

If homosexual sex is a sin then straight premarital sex would be a sin too for the same reason, right? Or at least both would be sins of equal severity, right?

Because I can't help thinking that I'm surrounded by hypocrites when I go to church now. I'm 100% aware that I'm far from perfect myself but at least I try to be open and respectful of people's "sins" because I'm a sinner like everyone. So it makes me uncomfortable to go to church and know that the same people who have premarital sex are those that constantly speak against trans people, against abortion rights, against homosexuals, as if they (Christians) have the moral high ground. To the point where I have stopped going to church and just practice my religion alone.

No, it's all sin.

But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, Sexually Immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

Do you not know that The Unrighteous Will Not Inherit The Kingdom Of God ? Do not be deceived. Neither Fornicators, nor idolaters, nor Adulterers, nor Homosexuals, nor Sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

Be careful to become prideful, everyone is a sinner and those other sins are still sins no matter what.

If people lay together and have sex, then they are become one flesh. They are sort of married but without the ceremony of marriage. Then when they break up and lay with another they are fornicators and adulterers. There is such a marriage as a common law husband and wife, where the two, just those two have agreed to live together and be one as in married for life.
For example, it is taught that if you join yourself to a harlot, as in sexually, then you are become one flesh with her.

All saved believers, born of God are joined one spirit with the Lord. The body is for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body. So do not use your body for sexual sin with another.

1 Corinthians 6:15-17 New King James Version (NKJV)

15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!
16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.”
17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

I think the Catholics handle this issue far better than many of the Protestant and reformed denominations. Overcondemning (new word) the practice is as bad as saying it is alway OK.

I don't think is is 'not a sin', but neither do I think adultery is the third worst sin (right after denying the Holy Spirit and murder) as do my Latter-day Saint friends.

There for the grace of God go I.

Exactly. And if I were a baker I would have no problem with baking everyone of them a cake, but I would refuse to write any of them blessings on top of it for anyones fornication, adultery or homosexuality (with my own hand). That sort of thing.

They are both sins. Which of these affronts to God is OK? Neither.

Those who say premarital sex is OK are hypocrites if they are Catholic. Are they Catholic? If they are they are either ignorant Catholics or the worst of people who subvert the Catholic faith from within.

You should not stop practicing your faith because of the failures of others. Why would you do that? You have your own sins and need to be faithful to overcome your own problems. Avoiding the Church does not get you there. All it does is allow you to be smug. Be humble instead and get back to the Sacraments and to God.

There are the beliefs of a given church, what the pastor preaches, and what the folks in the pew believe. In the perfect world, all would be aligned in the same direction. Pragmatically, many folks in the pew have no clue of what their church believes, and don't listen all that well to what the pastor preaches. Being your faith icon shows you are Catholic, I'll present some examples which drive my priest friends crazy. Some in the pew don't believe the devil exists. Some don't believer Jesus is present in the Eucharist. Some don't believe Mary is not to be worshiped. Those are big deal things which folks get wrong somehow... so hearing that premarital sex is ok, and that gay people are spoken of harshly from folks in the pew, that while very sad, is not unexpected.

Thus, if you want to know what your church teaches, its best to research it, rather than asking someone in the pew, this applies to pretty much any Christian faith. In the Catholic tradition, one has the Catechism of the Catholic Church as well as the local parish priest. In protestant faiths, one can look at the churches confessions, and/or what they believe papers they give to new members, in addition to asking the pastor.

In the situation you describe, those folks are clearly not in alignment with the Catechism, and run afoul of many encyclicals.

As such, I don't blame you for not wanting to go to church with these folks. I'd really struggle to do so as well... but this poses a question. if they aren't listening to the churches official teaching, and if they aren't listening to the priest, how are they ever going to change? Even more so, if they run off folks who do ascribe to official teachings, the church gets more and more diluted and off track. Granted, not every one is called to remain in such an environment, but this could be a door where God could use you to bring about change. it is something to ponder prior to going solo with God.

Right off hand, I'd say it's not as bad a homosexuality,
but could be the only difference is hell is a few degrees cooler for one over the other, so I won't be one to put it to the test in order to find out. :)
While I generally understand your point, I think it's worth saying that a man being sexually attracted to a woman or vice versa is not inherently sinful. Neither is actually acting on that impulse. If they're married to each other, obviously it's just fine. It's affirmatively good, in fact, if they're married to each other.

Same-sex relations are different in that there's no possible way for that to not be a sin. Same-sex relations are inherently disordered.

I agree with all but probably/possibly that in bold, that is if I follow you and you are saying premarital sex is not inherently sinful. I, as i think most do, always considered that fornication. However, I did a quick search for "biblical punishment for fornication" before I made my post here, and it surprised me, nothing but "adultery" came up.

For that reason I'm genuinely interested in your take on that in bold.

Premarital sex is sinful. The thing that isn’t inherently sinful is being sexually attracted to a member of the opposite sex. If you’re married to the person to whom you are attracted and sexually active, it’s fine.

But there are no circumstances where being attracted to/active with a member of the same sex is ever permissible.

Hope that clarifies things.

Sex is the physical expression of the 2 becoming One before God. It is the physical expression of Marriage as God has created it to be. Fornication in any form subverts this principal and makes a mockery of the Creator.

Both are sinful but homosexual sex is worse simply because it's more than one sin. It is both pre/non-marital sex (homosexual marriage is not true marriage biblically speaking) and it is also sinful because it is homosexual.
