Sure you can, though I would just say this: try to also make time for reading the Bible regularly! It doesn't need to be the only book you read, but it should be one of them.

I also love reading, and a couple things I've discovered which I enjoy are the lives of the Saints, and Dostoyevsky's fiction books. Sometimes I still read secular fantasy novels like Warhammer & The Wheel of Time series, but I don't dedicate as much time to these as I used to.

Just wanted to know. I enjoy reading and wanted to find a series of books other than the bible. I found the Warhammer books which are very interesting, but they are kinda gory hence the name Warhammer. Do yall think I can read these books?

Well, how serious are you about walking with God? 'Cause He puts some pretty tight restrictions on what Christians are to think, say and do. Here are some:

Philippians 4:8
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--think on these things.

How does the Warhammer series stack up against this standard? Are the stories pure? Are they noble? Are they lovely?

1 Corinthians 10:31
31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Does reading Warhammer stories glorify God? Is He lifted up and extolled in some way by your reading of these books?

Psalms 101:3
3 I will set nothing wicked before my eyes...

Well I am a born again christian, so I would say pretty serious. I probably will stay away from them though, they are books about fictional wars. Thank you for your reply!

Depends. I have no read them, so I don't know how far off they are into the gory.

The Bible itself, isn't exactly non-gory. David cut off Goliath's head. One of the Judges in the Bible, stabbed an evil king, so badly the entire blade went in the King's body, and the fat closed around it. The end times, the blood will flow so high, it will be up to a horses saddle.

You need to be wise. If it is pointlessly gory and disgusting, then the Bible does say, think on things that are good, lovely, and so on.

But otherwise I don't see a problem.

Just to be clear: where the Bible is "gory," it is so after the manner of a report, a historical account, not in the way a novel would be, describing in vivid and explicit detail the horror, and pain, and gore of some violent moment. When it comes to descriptions of events, the Bible is, generally, "just the facts ma'am." It doesn't work, then, to justify a literary diet of blood and destruction by saying, "The Bible's violent, too."

Just a thought:

Not all things gory are sin.

It is to be examined. For instance, in the Old Testament, there are, for instance, incidents which one could call "gory", violent, and most certainly "bloody". Such as when DAvid defeated Goliath and of all things, cut off his head.

The question is, did David "sin"?

Just some food for thought, brother.

God bless you.
