She said "most" not "all"

No the quote was that "most" deny this...But the one example of someone stating it means that it is verified.

Thank you for your honesty. It is good to see what we have long suspected but most pro-life people deny. This is about controlling women's sexuality.

They don't seem to know that a large percentage of women who seek abortions are married.

Relationship status can be a proxy for exposure to sexual activity, and can also influence individuals’ and couples’ childbearing goals. The distribution of abortion patients and abortion indices varied by relationship status. About 14% of abortion patients were married, and an additional 31% were cohabiting. A slight majority were not living with a partner in the month they became pregnant (46% had never married and 9% had been previously married).

Abortion is killing of a human being and not amount of "evil Christian drama" will change that fact.

But once in a while it's needed for health reasons. Which is why the moral calculus is not quite that of homicide. In what other situation would it be even remotely tolerable to kill one innocent human being in order to save the life of another one?

(Actually, I can think of one.)

I got this commentary in my e-mail today:

Is Common Ground on Abortion Possible?

It is written by the liberal Evangelical Pastor Jim Wallis. He makes the call for liberals and conservatives to come together to end the reasons why women have abortions instead of just passing laws against it. He details many of the things in American life which cause women to seek abortions. He says fixing those reasons would result in a large drop in abortions.

I agree with him and have for years tried to get people to understand that making laws won't protect any fetus. Ending the stigma of being a single woman with a child (the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] syndrome), paying women a family wage, working towards making child care available for the working mother, health care that is affordable and...the one I noticed wasn't on Pastor Wallis' list...getting American men to view a single mother as a valuable candidate for a mate BECAUSE she chose not to abort.

But, after reading the commentary, the thought came to me...What if all this has nothing at all to do with abortion. What if conservatives really don't give a rat's behind about giving women a reason not to abort? What if the REAL reason they are trying to legally end abortions is really about simply getting their religious dogma engraved in American law?

If that is right, is there any reason to think that will be end of their desire get their religious dogma engraved in American law? Are we headed for a Christian version of the Taliban?

Well said, Zephcom, well said.

Do we go into the world or "prefer one another"?

I have found that going out into the world and reaching out to people who are hurting and suffering keeps me humble and focused (not too heavenly minded to be any earthly good). It reminds me of the grace of God in my own life and it reminds me of the people God sent into my life to help me.

Actually I'm guilty of that too, but I just send money.

Aren't we supposed to "come out of" the world?

You know, I heard of this man who would eat with sinners and tax collectors. He was considered to be a radical in His day and some of the religious people who knew Him couldn't stand the sight of Him.

Anyone who wants to avoid going in circles about why we should actually help struggling people, just step off the merry go round.

And...he was telling them things that they really didn't want to hear. Recall that they turned on him in the end.

It was a simple question. Do you have an answer?

I don't think there is even the hint of a biblical case that we should not help the poor as Christians, so no, I am not going to answer your various "simple" questions. Surely a "wiseguy" would know the simple answers.

Do we not help the church first? What if after helping my brethren I have nothing left for the world? Am I an uncaring person?

(These questions are not a reflection of my charitable giving.)
