There is no comparison, which I rather suspect you know to be the case.

Obama was in many ways untouchable, above criticism, at least from people in positions of authority, and regardless of how pompous, authoritarian, or ill-conceived his actions were. By comparison, we are now living in a country awash with the most vulgar and even absurd hatemongering.

We have opponents even calling for the presidents assassination nowadays, so if anybody says that a few people thought it odd that Obama did not have a birth certificate, it would take a very partisan person to equate the two actions with a straight face.

And as for slowing the wheels of government, nothing compares with what the self-described ”RESIST!” movement (Get it? That is what they themselves say is their objective) has done, not just slowing the passage of legislation but preventing the confirmation of hundreds of ambassadors, cabinet officials, and so on who are needed for government to function properly.

The opponents are now going so far as to oppose legislation an policy that they supported an voted for...prior to the election of President Trump, that is. That should show anyone how deeply committed they are to their strategy.

See my post #31. It applies to more than terrorism. 'My' behavior is justified, 'yours' isn't.

The reality is that the Right spent an enormous amount of effort vilifying Obama. They spent a lot effort in making it nearly impossible for him to accomplish anything. They are STILL trying to take medical care away from Americans just because they labeled it 'Obama Care'.

This is the way people insulate themselves from the guilt of their bad behavior. They just pretend it isn't bad behavior.

BTW, I actually read a post on a different religion forum where a woman admitted that she prayed every night for God to 'remove' Obama from office. Since God doesn't run the nation, the assumption was that she wanted God to kill him for her.

Presidents in America are always targets of criticism. Quit whining and grow up.

Of all the great judges of character here attacking out Elected Leader, I have a few questions. How many Billions are your business worth and when were you elected President of the United States by the American People?

Actually Donald Trump was not elected by the American people, he was elected by the Electoral College. The American people actually voted against him by a majority of about 3,000,000 votes.

The gaslighting is so strong in your post I had to make sure it wasn't written by my ex-wife.

It never fails to amaze me how people can think that...but give a pass to the people who call him much worse things. It kinda makes their allegations sound contrived, you know?

I don't think that you've been paying attention ...

What would I call vulgar ?

Speaking of grabbing women by their private parts ?
Referring to 3rd world countries as s___-hole countries ?
Critiquing women's appearances as a form of debate ?
Supporting an accused pedophile for governmental office ?
Leching about walking in on half-dressed young women at a beauty pageant ?
Dishonoring the service of a gold-star family's young son ?

What would I call hate-mongering ?

Labeling Mexicans as rapists, thieves, and criminals ?
Questioning the duty-to -country of an American POW ?
Questioning the duty-to-country of a Mexican-born judge ?
Making fun of a disabled man ?

Well first off, it's not an allegation. It's a description of a behaviour/character trait or event.

When Obama was confronted with the same garbage, HE didn't react back with vitriole which then led to ever heightenning tension. He ignored most of it or addressed it briefly and moved on.

EDIT:
To clarify, I'm NOT saying that Trump is getting an easy ride...at all. He's getting hounded. My argument is that he brings a solid 80% of it on himself.

It's just terrible that the president indulges in vulgar hatemongering. :( That's one of the things I like least about him. White supremacists and domestic terrorists feel empowered by his words. He told Suffolk County police it was ok to rough up prisoners.

He inspires vile and base instincts.

Liberals are extraordinarily self-controlled when the discuss him, considering the totality of his actions.

I don't have much patience for people on the left who do those things, either. However...

Trump is the president. None of those other people are.

And just to put a finer point on it, regardless of how "pompous, authoritarian, or ill-conceived" you thought Obama's actions were, he's still a better person in every way than even the whitewashed gaslighting image of Trump that so many want us to believe.

Only if you count the tens of millions of illegally cast votes from non-citizens for Crooked Hillary.

<sigh> Just as there appears the Russians were unable to make any significant change to Trump's total, it also appears there was no 'tens of millions of illegally cast votes from non-citizens for Crooked Hillary'.

She won the popular vote. Get over it. He won the Electoral vote. I'm over that. Sadly, the people's vote for president is not worth the paper the mark was on.

Trump will have a harder time winning without winning the popular vote in 2020. 14 states and the District of Columbia have voted to award their electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote. These states carry 195 electoral votes.

The Nevada state Senate voted to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact on Tuesday, slating it to become the newest member of a growing group of states trying to sidestep the electoral college system.

Members of the compact — which already has 14 states and the District of Columbia — pledged their electoral votes to whichever candidate wins the most ballots from all 50 states. In effect, it hands the 2020 presidential election to whoever wins the nationwide popular vote.

But there’s one caveat: The compact will only take effect if states representing at least 270 electoral college votes pass the law. If passed, with six electoral votes, Nevada would bring the total to 195.

Those involved in the effort doubt that the electoral college delegate procedures can be changed in enough states before the 2020 presidential election, Reed Hundt, chairman and co-founder of Making Every Vote Count, told The Washington Post.

Honest - not 100% sure, but how someone who isn't competent and successful could turn 14 million into 4 or 5 billion is beyond my understanding. That is a increase of 321 times the starting funds. If he was stupid, why doesn't anyone else do it?

It's like the people who say he can only read on a grade school level, or can't read - or is senile or mentally unfit - well then how could a person like that defeat 16 seasoned and qualified candidates for the party nomination and then win against the "best qualified" candidate for president - who out spent him by 200%"?

Just doesn't make sense

To the first part of your question: he has been caught inflating assets to get credit. He has declared bankruptcy 6 times. He hires undocumented immigrants. He doesn't pay contractors. He operated a fraudulent university.

But hey, there isn't an ounce of proof he is worth billions----due to his refusal to show proof.

To the second part of your question. The Russians hacked our election. Wisconsin through over 100,000 off the rolls in voter suppression, and Trump won by 11,000 votes. Evangelicals were pleased with the Pence running mate and held their noses to vote for Trump.

In regards to finance, when I see his taxes I'll speak to his networth being accrued through sound business acumen. Simply put he's too willing to lie for me to trust him to come by his successes honestly

I'd say it's easy to beat republican candidates. He's willing to stoop lower than any of them were willing to go. His nationalistic, at best borderline prejudice messaging echoed with people who distrust minorities. Other candidates weren't willing to do that. That and he has star power.

And people thought he was a competent businessman. Many did.

Nobody thought for a second everything about him is a bit of a facade. And now it's basically impossible to truly figure him out because he's so comfortable lying has no personal moral that compels him to focus on truth telling.
