If this was ancient Egypt, the dog would be mummified. Sounds more Viking to me.

As long as a pet is considered property of the owner, there is no way to stop the executor carrying out such a wish. To argue it shouldn't be allowed, is to argue against ownership of pets into some other form of relation.

Are there no animal cruelty laws in the States? After all I own my coat, and I am free to swing the coat at a brick wall, but in the case of a cat?

People just love to kill, And we are starting to see it and meet the ones who support it.

I'm no hypocrite, I eat meat, but, there is a difference to killing for food to killing just to kill.

Different though. Do you have a problem with pet Euthanasia in the first instance? If it is cruel to do so in your will, is it not cruel to kill healthy pets otherwise? Yet widely practiced. Not that I support that, mind you.

Incidentally, PETA euthanises scores of healthy animals routinely.

Dog gone: healthy pet put down in Virginia so it can be buried with owner

Seriously! This not ancient Egypt people! The vet and executor who carried this out should be ashamed.

I agree. IMO when someone dies they need to shut up. The whole idea of using a will to get people to do what you want is ridiculous to me. Once a person dies that person should no longer have a say in what goes on in the living world. I can accept the idea that a person, while alive, can decide what happens to their assets after they die but attaching conditions to the disbursal of those assets or doing something like this ought to be out of the question. People that use their will as a means to exert control over others should not be given that option.

There certainly are animal cruelty laws in the US, but putting a pet to sleep is generally not considered cruel. Generally, by law, a pet is your property and killing it is an option, as long as it's done humanely it's not considered cruelty.

Not for the animal being killed. Also this dogs death was much less painful than the end that livestock meet.

Well, if you believe in the afterlife and you want to share that afterlife with your pet...

then it makes perfect sense...

By that logic it would make perfect sense to get your family along for the ride as well.

Hard to think that there are people like that but it has happened before.

I agree, better to take everyone you will miss, that way you can all arrive together. It is hard enough keeping track of the kids arriving at Chicago O’Hare.

Livestock can be slaughtered humanely and as painlessly as the dog in question if that is what one wants to do. The end of livestock has a purpose. Tthis dog's end was due to the vanity of a dead person and served no worthwhile purpose.

Why would you swing a coat at a cat?

But...that’s “eternity”...we all get there, together, “at the same time”, though time, there, (in eternity), doesn’t exist.
