What better way to live than as overcomers
The Lord reminded me earlier this year that it was Him I should be following and ever since I renewed my commitment to stick with Him and His plan for my life, rather than drifting into my own, I have experienced more of what it is like to live in victory.

The things I had found hard to do have become easier to do. The old ways of living have lost their appeal.

My experience of God has been of a loving Father who is gentle with me. I have never felt Him being angry with me for letting Him down. I have not felt feelings of fear and condemnation when I have failed.

What I have experienced is that gentle still small voice of calm reminding me that I am deeply loved and that by following Him and obeying Him, He is drawing me closer to Himself.

Thanks for your testimony. I love the picture of a loving Father you paint with your words.
Do you have a specific testimony of a situation where you were an overcomer? Please share if you do. Thanks.

Hi Steve
I think the main thing in recent years is that I became quite bitter about a lot of things. I felt let down by my previous church and decided that I didn't need to go to church again. A couple of friends who knew me very well told me that I had become more judgemental and critical. One of my close Christian friends told me that she noticed I'd become more angry and intolerant about a number of things. I even voluntarily distanced myself from Christians I disagreed with. As a result, my prayer life became virtually non-existent and my faith was becoming a bit of mess. I learned that pride, anger and selfish thinking is a major stumbling block which causes many Christians to fall.

I believe now that God has His ways of reaching out to people in these situations. He has a way of guiding us out of trouble even when we don't realise where we're heading. He has a way of speaking gentle words to us which are able to penetrate our stubbornness and hard-heartedness. In the past few months I have felt more at peace than I have for a number of years. Not only that, the head knowledge I had of God's love for me as my Heavenly Father has become much deeper and more personal. Even people have noticed that I have started to change. A Christian who had tried to guide me out of difficult situations and poor decisions regarding my walk with God, has now started listening to me and asking for advice regarding his own faith. I take no credit for becoming a different person - it is God who has moved in my life to make me less critical, less hardened and more obedient to Him.

Yes, brother, thank you for sharing, as I too have found these as issues, as well as keeping a record of wrongs and holding grudges, which make for bitterness and hardened hearts, leading to not being able to forgive others.

Like you, I was led to see these sins and to confess them.

My eyes were opened, where once I was blind!

Thanks for the testimony. What you wrote reminded me of this scripture.

Ezekiel 36:26
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you;
I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

So, let's discuss this business of living as overcomers. Your thoughts?

'Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good'

As overcomers- we stand for truth in a 'post-truth' world. We can share love in a world filled with hate. We can do selfless acts in a society infected with greed. Pray for our enemies, show kindness to strangers. Do nothing from impure motives. Let the lights shine in the darkness :amen:

Grace and strength to meet each day!
I had a situation yesterday that I was quite concerned about.
I expected to be in trouble for something I failed to do at work.
I turned it over to God and heard nothing on the matter yesterday.

I find it interesting how we try to manage our lives in the flesh compared to in the Spirit.

I was preparing to defend myself in a situation I thought was coming my way.
Rehearsing in my mind what I would say in my defense. But then I decided to turn it over to the Lord. I was filled with peace about it and nothing came of it.

'A life of overcoming,a life of ceaseless praise. Be this beloved Thy portion throughout the coming days.."
Right. Worship is not just something we do when we go to church. Worship is a lifestyle of praise. Which we are told is transformative. Living sacrifices.

Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

I love this verse, very well known, but always good...

Psalms 34
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!
