Some say it's the restoration of Isreal. That happened in 1948.

Notice Jesus also says "Turn to Yahweh, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand" (i.e. right at the door)

The previous and following verses explain it... Before the ones you quote, is talk of signs of tribulation and then signs of the second coming of Christ, after the verse describing the leaves of the tree comes: "33 even so ye also, when ye see all these things, know ye that he is nigh, [even] at the doors."

So, as one knows that summer is near when the leaves of the fig tree come forth, so also we will know that Christ is soon to come when we see the signs named in previous verses.

Thank you brothers and sisters for your kind posts.

There are many signs given, some general, some more specific. When we see them all we will know that the Lord's return is near, but:

Some say it's the restoration of Isreal. That happened in 1948.

So does the Fig-Tree represent Israel and is this one of the signs, the ultimate sign the Lord was referring to? When we see the return of Israel in conjunction with the other signs?

God Bless :)

The passage relates to Israel but it also relates to coming judgement that comes from the lack of fruitfulness. The passage also suggests that we likewise can take heed to know the general time we are living in by looking what is going around in the World.

The fig tree was a national and a cultural symbol for Israel, in much the same way Americans see the apple with Johnny Apple seed, apple pie etc. For the Israelites it also was "the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil", much like Americans and Europeans depict the apple. So Jesus cursing the fig tree naturally spoke volumes!

Hello. Does anyone have any comments or insights on this passage. Thank you. :)

The passage refers to the end times, and when we see certain world events take place we should, as Jesus said flee for safety.

It is my opinion, that we are now enetering that time, as described in those passages. That we will soon see the Antichrist revealed. I say this because events in my home country got me thinking and praying, and I was asking the LORd if the Antichirst, was soon to arrise. In both methods that I use to seek the LORD forr important decisions He let me know that "yes the anti christis coming soon". We should be looking very closely at world events and when they start fulfilling Jesus words, we then need to act. I am currently writing up a document on what I feel teh LORD has been telling me, and I will post it here once it is done. SO you can understand in more detail what it is about, and how it relates to scripture.

When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again". And his disciples heard him say it. In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots.

The season for fruit is during the winter before the leaves are produced. Any fig tree old enough to bear fruit, should have immature fruit on it in Spring.

Perhaps the insight is to the maturity of God’s plan. Having withered it at the roots it may be that Christ is seeing whether faith exists during His absence, which He tended to doubt.

But I think it also relates to the new growth of Israel as a state in 1948 which that generation will see those things fulfilled.
