And here is one good reason, if you need to know more, just ask.

The NIV leaves out 16 entire verses!

1. Matthew 17:21: "Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting."

2. Matthew 18:11: "For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost."

3. Matthew 23:14: "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation."

4. Mark 7:16: "If any man have ears to hear, let him hear."

5. Mark 9:44: "Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched."

6. Mark 9:46: "Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched."

7. Mark 11:26: "But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses."

8. Mark 15:28: "And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors."

9. Luke 17:36: "Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left."

10. John 5:4: "For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had."

11. Acts 8:37: "And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."

12. Acts 15:34: "Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still."

13. Acts 24:7: "But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,"

14. Acts 28:29: "And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves."

15. Romans 16:24: "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen."

16. I John 5:7: "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."

Alright. There is an article there to read too.
The king James Bible is the best copy to get, nothing is changed from the original.

I can teach a class on why they changed the scriptures.

The Didache Bible (RSV2CE) presents extensive commentaries, based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, for each of the books of the Holy Bible. The Didache Bible also includes numerous apologetical inserts to assist the reader in understanding the Church’s teachings on current issues.

I will have to research more into this, but it looks to me it only teaches the religion and practices of Catholics.

I just do not think that the KJV is the end all, be all in Biblical translation. I know there are those that think so, but as the article said, there are no perfect translations.

So from my pov, it seems more authentic than the King James Version of the Bible. Remember too, that Catholics have more books in their canon of Scripture than the KJV offers.

No, Its not, it is either equal or also leaves out scripture, but like i stated, i will have look into this.

I can not judge something I have not read.

But it is good to read all things related to finding God.

Considering this is the Catholic sub forum, that is likely why its a suggestion.

The KJV is a very good translation that keeps the poetry of the ancient texts (something many modern translations neglect) and also keeps many of the clear biblical teachings unobscured

I have always said the KJV could be instrumental in forging greater unity among Protestants in giving all of them a common biblical vocabulary with specific words and quotes being in common for all of them even if particular interpretations and exegesis differ

We do have to keep in mind the political backdrop to that transition, it was meant to be a bible that could unite the various factions in England
A compromise between the more episcopate focused High Churchmen who used the Bishops Bible translation and the more Reformed English Calvinists who used the Geneva Bible while also being monarchal enough to support the regime of King James who had it commissioned, all three of these factors leave fingerprints in how it is translated

I think some of these verses are left out because of discrepancies in ancient copies of the Bible?

I just checked and the Douay-Rheims translation has all of these verses though on two or three the numbering is slightly different so if you check I recommend reading a few verses before and after just incase the numbering differs

As for the article, to many of the footnotes and some of the wording in the NAB seems watered down to me, I prefer the Douay-Rheims which preserves the poetry of sacred scripture and uses beautiful language as well as having solid footnotes that were not tainted with Modernism like many modern translations footnotes have been
