Now, you started this thread with a charge that scripture was not practical and:

You didn't specify who the "we" was supposed to be, nor did you actually uncover the real point you intended to make.

But what the New Testament does tell us is that God gives worldly nations the authority to use the sword to maintain order in this fallen world. "Use the sword" is the extreme of carnal authority which includes everything less drastic, such as lying. God gives worldly nations the authority to lie, extract taxes, execute criminals, carry out war to maintain an orderly society in this fallen world.

Is that sin? Yes, there is a whole cloud of sin all in that general direction because, "...that's not the way it was in the beginning." It continues to be true that he whose life is by the sword will suffer his death by the sword. Every earthly nation will fall.

But what I notice is that the Holy Spirit and the Body of Christ is able to operate in an orderly society even when it is extremely oppressive. For instance, even during the most extreme Roman oppression against the Church, the Church yet grew to 25% of the population of Rome itself.

Even in the extreme oppression of North Korea, the Body of Christ has grown tenfold in North Korea since the mid 90s. Kim Jong Un has given up trying to eliminate the Church--now he's trying to co-opt it. Even under oppression in China, the church gains 1,000 new members a week, and the Chinese are trying to co-opt the Church now instead of eliminating it.

But in places like South Sudan, where there is no orderly government and chaos reigns, the Church cannot grow or even gain a foothold.

But I would agree that even though God has given worldly governments the authority to use carnal measures up to and including the sword to maintain order, that does not mean members of the Body of Christ need personally participate in it. So earthly government does not mean "we" when "we" means the Body of Christ.

You are an undercover officer.

Of course there would be. That's why God gave methods for handling criminals in the Mosaic Law.

Nowhere does it say, "After you've done this a few years, you won't have any more criminals."

I think you are missing the point here. In a generalized, theoretical argument that is meant to display the practicality or lack thereof of the Bible, as the OP was. You cannot apply biblical principles to one group of people (in this case law enforcement) to make your case while not applying to all other groups, especially when those groups are as interconnected as these.

My point is that the ethic of the Body of Christ cannot be--and was never intended to be--applied to worldly government.

Is Christianity practical for a worldly government? No.

Is Christianity practical for the Body of Christ? Yes.

The comment you were responding to was about criminals embracing the Bible, not governments.

In order to catch criminals undercover cops have to lie, deceive and often times cuss. They have to sin in order to catch criminals, which means that the bible is useless.

If we did things the way the bible tells, criminals would never get caught.
I think that the bible can be used to catch criminals if the body of believers is sufficiently committed to doing things the bible way; taking faith and love to a whole new, higher level. The current situation is not even close right now but the message of the Bible means that such is not impossible.

And you know this how? You should at least know there will be armies to come/in the future where killing will be rampant.

I spoke to you of common sense already. Do you not know God has his hands on our laws, and our laws do not call killing in war murder?

The rest of your post seems like it was headed in a direction that tells me I need to ask you if you would stand there and turn the other cheek if someone was going to kill your wife and kids, or would you stand against them and fight?

There's a time to be passive and a time to fight with everything we have. Oh, and self defense is not murder either.
Yes in the end of days there will be killing Joel tells us as much, but that is during the time of the Mark of the beast. Any man who take the Mark of the Beast is damned and cannot be saved, thus removing the Ban on killing(where those with the mark are concerned). I can send you a couple short studies on the matter to show you the truth of this or I can post them here if you'd like.

But Until the time of the mark comes, killing for any reason is a sin. Until that time this remains true "Of course this goes against human nature. But Christ followers are to be separate and different than worldly people. They are peaceful, loving, and kind. When a man kills another man he takes not only his life but also that man's chance to repent and be saved. For all who die in sin are damned. This is why Christians can not harm or kill anyone for any reason."

Show the verse in the NT that says God has his hand on our man made laws. Because until you do all I see are world governments killing innocent people, passing laws to kill unborn babies, passing laws to allow gay marriage and facilitate living an abominable lifestyle, passing laws that support drunkenness and allowing bars to operate and give people leave to get drunk, and there are so many other laws passed by world governments that are in direct opposition to God's law. If God had his hand in world Government laws then none of the above would be allowed in any government of the world, but since all of the above and more is Legal in the US(and other countries) we know God does not have any role in a governments legal decisions. Just from scripture alone we can see that world governments are the rulers of Darkness of this world, not the appointed rulers of God. We wrestle against both the principalities and the powers of this world.
Ephesians 6:12
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Yes I would, and a matter a fact I have, so did my dad, my sister, and my mother. Men have tried to kill my family for preaching the word of God before and we didn't retaliate with violence. Instead whenever we got the Chance we did as the word of God says to do. We went to these men and helped them out in whatever way we could, moving stuff for them offering them advice on certain matters and of course we continued to preach the word to them. We didn't seek vengeance but instead we prayed for their souls, we prayed that they repent of their sinful actions and embrace the truth, truly forgiving them in our hearts. Then the Lord avenged us in ways we could not have done. So I know the Lord is not slack concerning his promises, when he says he will avenge and that vengeance is his he means it. Though I did not wish them to be punished but rather that they come to repentance.

For no reason can we kill another man as they still have a chance at repentance and salvation and by killing them we rob them of this chance. That is a sin. Loving not our lives unto death is something we all must do, we must care about not just the lives and souls of our loved ones but about the lives and souls of those who we have never met, we even must care for the souls of our enemies. As Christ said.
Luke 6:32-36
32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.
34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

The Lord tells us that we are to have the same mercy on the wicked and the evil as the Lord showed us. By the Lord's love he cared enough to die for us that we might be saved. With that same love are we to love, with that same mercy are we to show mercy to the wicked and the evil who wish to harm us.
John 13:
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
1 John 4:
7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
9In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

16And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
19We love him, because he first loved us.
20If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
21And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

We are command to love one another as the Lord has loved us. And that love is to freely lay down our lives for our friends and to show mercy on the wicked and to love them as the Lord loved us(for he died to save the wicked and the evil that they may come to repentance and be saved through him).
John 15:
10If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. 11These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. 12This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Ephesians 2:4 - But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Luke 5:
31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.
32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

It is this love that worketh no ill that we all to have, preach, and show to everyone wicked and righteous alike.
Romans 13:
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Love not our lives unto death brother, not defend your life(or any other life) with violence.
Revelation 12:11
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Romans 8:36
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Matt 5:
39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

1 Peter 3:
9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

Romans 12:
17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Overcome evil with good brother not with violence, overcome evil with love. And if we are killed by the wicked we should pray for those killing us as Stephen prayed for those who stoned him to death.
Acts 7:
59And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. 60And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

God bless you brother.

We live in an evil world. It is hard to be pure but the goal is that as a society we should strive to be what God intended. We fall short and it’s really difficult to be Godly in a godless world

No, I am saying you should not lie or deceive to catch a criminal.
Are you trying to say law enforcement must be MORE righteous that God Himself?

All people are bound by the commandments and requirements God put on them.
there are many things you do not understand.

Including the fact that it is recorded God Himself was deceptive on occasion.

2 misunderstood commandments:

Thou shalt not Murder (not just "kill")
Thou shalt not bear False Witness. (very different than just lying)
