Hi all!
I’m new here and I’m also a new follower of Jesus! I grew up religious and have decided to leave that upbringing and have a relationship instead of following religion. My religion didn’t read much of the Bible and since making the decision to follow Jesus, I’ve been so drawn to His Word. I can’t get enough of it. It’s a good problem to have, but I’m starting to neglect things, mainly studying for nursing school. I’d much rather spend time highlighting my Bible - it’s the highlights of my day, pun intended. Any advice on figuring out a healthy balance as I navigate my new faith? Thanks so much and God bless!

Welcome to CF  Focusing on nursing school sounds important. In that you could serve God which is a big part of scripture teachings.

Bible study is profoundly important - however it's being wasted unless you live out what you have learned. Without putting what you are learning into action in your daily life you are drastically limiting the overall benefit of God's Word. The Bible is your instruction book; your life (studying for nursing school) is where the instructions are to be applied. Neither one should be done in isolation.

Blessings!

Welcome

There is no healthy balance.

Give your whole heart to God, every day every hour of every day, then, He will bless you with all you needs.

Consider all the profits in the bible, every one of them blessed with great riches and power.

Because they loved God and not this world, so God gave them this world so others would follow them.

But its a daily process, most of the said profits proved them self to God for years, and now, they have the kingdom of heaven, and this is the true goal, nothing else.

The balance comes with the Great Commission. (Matthew 28:19-20) The question is, how will you go about making disciples as a nurse? And then go for it.

Thank you so much everyone for the warm welcome and awesome advice! I guess where I’m struggling is that my passion for nursing has been replaced somewhat with my passion for Christ, if that makes sense. I just wanna be in His Word and presence and I don’t get that feeling with studying! I know I will make a great nurse though so I need to push through and put the work in but I’ve found myself procrastinating so I can read the Bible instead.

Welcome! You are so wise and transparent, it's wonderfully refreshing! I'm so happy to hear that you have left behind religion and are pursuing Christ daily to become more and more like him daily. I can totally understand how you feel, getting lost in the Word is addicting and it's hard to want to do anything else. However, reality sets in and we find that we are letting responsibilities slip. The very best thing you can do that I try to do daily is to start with prayer. As soon as my eyelids open, I ask God to be in charge of my day, to bless my paths, whomever I converse with and whatever I do that it might bring glory to Him. Set time aside early in the morning to have an appointed time with Him, if you're really strapped for time and responsibilities, then set a timer and ask the Lord to open your mind and eyes to capture all that He has for you to hear from him today. Also, to make your study time effective and efficient so that you can have more time soaking the Word. You can also listen to the Bible on your commutes, that way you can soak in the Bible while you aren't able to study. Have fun with it, you'll find He will help you in any way, he's only a prayer away.
