Hello, I'm a primary school teacher in religion and I'm soon teaching a class on Genesis (more specifically the creation and Adam+Eve). The kids are around 10 years old.

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas/methods to teach this (I'm a substitute teacher). While I considered straight up reading Genesis 1,2 I kind of think it's too heavy for 10-year-olds - at least without me explaining every third sentence.

I was considering some kind of roleplay, but I'm not sure if this would be considered blasphemy by some? Considering some of the kids probably aren't Christian (most are lutheran, but definitely some non-religious too). I'm really unsure. I remember we roleplayed some parts of the bible when I went to christian camp, but I'm not sure if it's okay if there are non-christians? Maybe I should stay away just to be safe?

Any ideas? Thanks

I don't consider it blasphemy.

After all, we're supposed to roleplay Scripture every day.

There is no better way to learn then to have a role in the situation.

I don't see why it would be too heavy to read it straight through for these lads, considering that the first five books were always read in synagogues and homes to children. I believe the "heaviness" will build a good foundation for the future, instead of watering the accounts down to stories that they will look back on as just that - stories that they heard as a kid.

Children have for ages listened to someone read them books, so I don't think it would be wrong for you to do the same with the Scriptures while explaining where it may be a little difficult for their young minds to understand.

I liked straight up reading, when I was ten. How would you want it to be taught to you, if you would be ten?
