Perhaps you didn't have time to read my entire post before so I'll put it here for you with a few pertinent highlights.
I read it all the first time - and liked the last statement especially (well, except for the words "I guess" ) no need to guess.

Every person deserves, and receives, God's justice. Every person also receives God's mercy, although none of us deserve it.

But I do not think @Hammster has defined what he believes to be "God's justice" and "God's mercy" so the question is difficult to answer. For example, God allows the damned to live a full life on Earth, to experience pleasure, and even to exist in Hell, as opposed to simply wiping them from existence. That is a form of His mercy. God disciplines even those among the elect, that is a form of His justice.

I wonder how Calvinists answer the question though, considering that their theology generally denies free-will, thus making God the author of evil. I wonder in what sense a Calvinist might say that man deserves punishment from God, considering that under their theology God has reprobated them since before the beginning of time, and never once even offers them the possibility of faith. That is, if a man is "totally depraved" from the moment of his existence, how then can he be said to deserve punishment by God, who created him so?

Simple straightforward question. Does sinful man (all of us) deserve the justice of God?
No...that's why it is called grace. :)

He doesn't OWE us anything... and we as a race walked away from Him. Yet He still opens the door for us. That is HIS LOVE and has nothing to do with anything beyond that.

Your question flies in the face of the Cross. Who are we to question God's decision to use Jesus Christ of Nazareth as the sacrifice for sin that made us justified? It is not a question to be answered by you, me or anyone. It is God's prerogative that ALL BE SAVED from sin.

If we don’t deserve hell, then why do we need grace?

Sorry Hammy... I read "justice" and thought something entirely different. Yes, we deserve God's justice... punishment, we deserve to die. He owes us nothing.

Yes, as those who reject will unfortunately receive the penalty of sin, the second death.
Do you believe that you were, by nature, the same as those who are children of wrath?

Simple straightforward question. Does sinful man (all of us) deserve the justice of God?

We deserve justice. That's a tautology because the definition of "justice" is simply "what we deserve". The question is whether God's justice toward us would result in our being blessed or our being cursed.
