I have read lots of talk about people giving up masturbation and how God has delivered them from lust. I know God can do all things, but is this achievable? I tried many, many times to give up masturbation, but failed again and again. I even went to a few healing services to get "healed" of masturbation. But I wasn't healed or delivered.

Why?

1. Without masturbation, you are filled with more lustful thoughts all day. You spend more time lusting. But if you touch, you can get through the day with purer thoughts and you can go through the day better.

2. Raging hormones. For those of us younger and not married, raging hormones is a big issue. I often get prolonged erections and its so embarrassing. I have stopped wearing boxers or thin basket ball shorts because they are really embarrassing when you get an erection. Even tighter underwear can't conceal it completely. They don't go away and they come any time, they tent really prominently out of your pants which is so terrible esp when you wear swimming trunks or wear thin athletic shorts! And I love swimming and sports. If you don't touch, these huge and massive erections can be a HUGE problem esp for younger men.

3. If you don't touch, wet dreams are even more intense and evil. They often leave me sweating and soaking... and they are so embarrassing if you have a room mate. They are worse in sinful magnitude.

I am not trying to be difficult, but I am lost. Can anyone honestly say they have mastered killing masturbation? Honestly? What is your secret? And is it long term? How do you deal with erections?

mastered it? nope. making time to deal with it is the best way that I've found to get through the remainder of the day. And long term the denial of a natural function can cause permanent physical problems down the road that are irreversible, and which affect more than just yourself.
so accept this as a natural function of your body.
It's the thoughts that go with it that are the real problem, not the physical reactions. And even the saints had this same problem.

It is possible, I am living proof. You say if you don't touch you are just full of more lustful thoughts. Well thoughts are not sin necessarily until you put action to it. Temptation is not sin. Sometimes in the past I would do it with the idea of "well I had the thought and have sinned already so why not?"

First realize that thoughts are not sin until you put action behind them, in most cases. But it is best not to dwell on thoughts as dwelling on them for a time will commit them to heart and that can be sin.

What I did to overcome?

Take it to Jesus!

Literally every time I had a lustful thought or urge to touch I would pray. I would say something to the effect of:

Lord, these thoughts are not from you. I am to be mindful of the Spirit not the flesh. I am created in your image and reject these thoughts. Help me Jesus.

And no joke it has kept me. You just have to want it. See some people will say such things don't work for them, they "tried it". Well my response would be they didn't want to be free, they only "checked the boxes" to make it less sinful. I did the same before, that is how I know.

I actually studied scripture, listened to those who had more wisdom on the matter, and learned that masturbation isn't a sin.

i'm another living example that such a sin can be overcome.

as far as thoughts being sinful
matthew 5:21-22

doing violence to your brother your mind is no different than the act itself.

taking sexual possession of someone in your mind is no different than the act itself.

Wet dreams are not the same as actively engaging in something that is wrong.

You simply do not do what is wrong. You can do this. You don't have to look at pictures. Find something more constructive to do with your time. There are no magic tricks, or something that makes the hormones go away.

You need to learn to be master over your thought life, one day at a time.

I thought about how God was always watching me, even while I did that. The thought was so awkward and embarrassing that I stopped. I still have dreams that are sexual and nature, and still feel urges. I still struggle with getting off on sexual thoughts and memories of sexual images though. It hasn't completely gone away. I still indulge in sexual thoughts and I feel gross afterwards. but I did notice that the year after I stopped that the frequency and intensity for the most part lessened because I was indulging it less. I don't watch tv as much anymore in general, which I think helps because it is just saturated in sex. I try to listen to less secular music in general, because I notice after thousands of hours of listening to secular versus Christian music, one makes me yearn for and think about God, while the other one makes me ocd about getting a boyfriend. It's like, not everything is a sin, but not everything is beneficial for building up either. Personally, I don't think watching tv or listening to music or playing video games is inherently evil, but sometimes it is a good idea to be careful what messages you are constantly listening to and what images you are letting in.

1 Corinthians 10:23-24
23“All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up.24Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.

The last time i masturbated i was 18, thankfully i grew up quickly after that. Yes it feels good but there is no doubt in my mind that it is a sin. i'm now 40 and haven't masturbated for 22 years. So yes it is possible. Is it easy? Not always, sometimes i feel like i want to do it but i ignore that feeling until it passes. Self control is an important tool to have

The core of the problem is that we often tend to somehow give in to the distortion of satan. Someone who overcame alcoholism said that once he realised that it is a lie from the pit of hell to say that he cannot live without that drink, and once he confronted that lie, he was set free.

I was not married until I was 35 years of age, and before that time I would often do the deed. I am not saying don't try to beat it, if you can great. But I don't think everyone is that strong. The sin, although not a perfection, did not stop God using me. During my early years, he still healed the sick, and used me to save the lost. If I could have beaten it I would have, for it still made me feel a little guilty. But to be honest I don't think God sees it as poorly as some make out he does. I do believe it is a sin, but only a very minor one. God's perfection would be for us to be free, but I don't believe He goes around beating people up about it.

The answer to that question was yes. My wife did it at age 13.

HOW???

By mentally shutting down her sexual feelings and drive. Now after 40+ years of marriage, it still has not really come back on line.

That is not good fruit.
