I suspect if the President pushed, Mitch would agree to this one. I think you'd have a large bipartisan support for this action. Trump would be able to claim a win here, and a very legitimate one at that.

I guess emergency is just another word that's lost all meaning now.

It’s not like this is a new problem. There should, at minimum be legislation in the works.

when? certainly it was not in this administration

There have been several laws passed. If the Congress wants to act again, that would be great. In the meantime, Trump has taken a very good action.

IMO, there is little downside in Trump's actions. Congress can continue the efforts. As has been said, there is agreement between Democrats, Republicans and Trump. It is good to have detailed laws supporting this action. However, there is no reason to wait.

I think that past legislation dealt with government purchases. This action extends the ban to all US companies. The analysis yesterday indicated that large companies are already in compliance, but that small ones will need to remove the equipment that can be used to spy on US companies.
