Reluctantly, I watched nearly half of it, and unless the rest suggested something miraculous, I don't see it.
I see a man who got very sick and survived a survivable disease. Was there anything else to it? I actually think he's using God/the situation, to monetize it/get famous, but again will be happy to hear reasons suggesting I am wrong.
Also, and I hope someone will tell me if I missed something, but here is a quote from the good Dr, that was obtained at the following URL:
Bacterial meningitis with such a rapid decline in neurologic function conferred a 90 percent mortality rate,
My Experience in Coma (NDE) by Dr. Eben Alexander
But then I see this when searching "Bacterial Meningitis survival rate":
One large study of adults with community-acquired bacterial meningitis reported an overall mortality rate of 21%,
Acute Bacterial Meningitis in Adults
I ask someone to check my findings because I cannot imagine the Dr being that reckless, so I must be wrong.
I bought his book and it is certainly well written.... here are three paragraphs that really jumped out at me:
“It is my belief that we are now facing a crucial time in our existence. We need to recover more of that larger knowledge while living here on earth, while our brains (including its left side analytical parts) are fully functioning. Science --- the science to which I’ve devoted so much of my life ---- doesn’t contradict what I learned up there. But far, far too many people believe it does, because certain members of the scientific community, who are pledged to the materialist worldview, have insisted again and again that science and spirituality cannot coexist.
They are mistaken. Making this ancient but ultimately basic fact more widely known is why I have written this book, and it renders all the other aspects of my story ---- the mystery of how I contracted my illness, of how I managed to be conscious in another dimension for the week of my coma, and how I somehow recovered so completely ---- entirely secondary.
The unconditional love and acceptance that I experienced on my journey is the single most important discovery I have ever made, or will ever make, and as hard as I know it’s going to be to unpack the lessons I learned there, I also know in my heart that sharing this very basic message ----- one so simple that most children readily accept it ---- is the most important task I have.” (Dr. Eben Alexander, page 72, Proof of Heaven.)
His being reunited with his birth parents has some aspects and added details that reminds me of how three year and ten month old Colton Burpo was able to tell his parents that he had a sister in heaven........ they did not even know that his older miscarried sibling had been a girl. Dr. Eben Alexander met his deceased sister during his NDE..... but did not recognize her until after he met his biological parents after fifty years of separation due to his being adopted.
He finishes explaining that at 1:36:00 or so in the video.
