It's not the fact they want a homeland that's the problem, it's the fact they want the *whole territory* as a homeland that's the problem. The moment Rabin tried to create a two state solution, he was killed by a Zionist.

The Oslo accords never included a Palestinian state....but whatever, who needs details when you're throwing around blame.

There's also a basic problem with not creating a separation between Church and state and trying to create a theocracy. They never work and they always end up oppressing anyone who disagrees with the theocracy. That's the beauty of America. It allows for real religious freedom by creating a separation between Church and state.

I'll file this under "problems liberals don't seem to have with every Muslim nation....ever".

If you believe it's wrong....then stay consistent, and speak out against every theocratic nation. When you just do it against Israel, it looks....biased.

Because Netanyahu has continued to build so called "settlements" on the wrong side of the green line, that's why. Why does he keep doing that? Zionism (like tying to take the whole thing), that's why.

Because there's no other possible reasons....chief amongst them getting rid of a hostile neighbor.

They will never get another dime from us if they do that.

Wait...lol what? You take away their foreign aid....they attack Palestine and your response is "you better stop or we'll continue to not give you any money!"

Your name in real life isn't Trump, is it? You aren't shopping around ideas to solve this problem cuz your dad put it on your "to do" list?

Even in that case, at least their Zionism is exposed for what it truly is - oppressive and violent.

You're still using that word wrong. Zionism doesn't specify any particular boundaries or borders. Here's a decent article explaining how the two state solution came into favor....and fell out.

And yet that's only half of the story because we have Zionists on the other side who are unwilling to accept a two state solution, and unwilling to abide by UN resolutions. It's not a one sided problem, and there's plenty of blame on both sides.

Israeli settlement - Wikipedia
if the firepower were reversed would there be a single Jew left? In 1948 when Israel raised the flag the next day they were at war. The migrant workers were from many neighboring nations and lived in camps next to the farms. Many fled this war and were told after the war by the invading nations that they would be able to seize the lands of Israel. Those who stayed are Israeli citizens to this day. they vote and they do not have to serve in the military because many have family who fled. Those who fled were put in camps and the camps in Syria never let these people into their country but have kept them in these camps now over 70 years. If you look at the Bible and your eschatology will determine your outlook for the future. I suggest reading Ezekiel 36 Zech 14 Isaiah 61 Dan 7 for starters.

No, but it was a step in that direction and provided some autonomy for the Palestinians. For his efforts, Rabin was assassinated by a Zionist.

Huh? I just did. I didn't single out *one* type of theocracy, I said *they* (as in all) do not work. Muslim countries are another great example where minority viewpoints are trampled upon.

It's annoying that any criticism of Israel's policies instantly evokes false claims of antisemitism or claims that Israel is being singled out unfairly. That's just nonsense. I criticize my own government too, but I'm not anti-American.

Because there's no other possible reasons....chief amongst them getting rid of a hostile neighbor.

So it's OK in your book to take land that doesn't belong to you and build "settlements" on them? I can only imagine the reaction if Mexico or Canada tried to do that here.

Wait...lol what? You take away their foreign aid....they attack Palestine and your response is "you better stop or we'll continue to not give you any money!"

No, I would tell both sides that I will more than happy to help finance their agreement, but until such time as they have an agreement, I'm cutting them both off. If Israel refuses to come to any agreement, so be it, but I'd at least I'd save billions of dollars over the next few centuries. :)

Your name in real life isn't Trump, is it? You aren't shopping around ideas to solve this problem cuz your dad put it on your "to do" list?

Kind of a low blow don't you think?

You're still using that word wrong. Zionism doesn't specify any particular boundaries or borders. Here's a decent article explaining how the two state solution came into favor....and fell out.

Benjamin Netanyahu's views on a Palestinian state, explained - Jewish Telegraphic Agency

I've seen Netanyahu continuously and intentionally dishonor his UN commitments and his agreements to US administrations by continuing to build settlement after settlement after settlement on the wrong side of the green line throughout his various terms. He's never shown any sign of dealing fairly with the Palestinians. I have no respect for that man at all.

I'm not suggesting the problem is one sided, I'm suggesting there is plenty of blame to go around on both sides. I'd be inclined to simply cut off the funding until both sides worked it out. As it is, we're funding an endless quagmire of hatred with no end in sight.

Rabin was assassinated by a religious zealot. There's plenty of those everywhere.

Well it's ironic to see that criticism of Israel, while knowing that in supporting Palestine....you would be supporting a theocracy that tramples the rights of minorities.

It's only a problem when we're talking about Israel though.

So it's OK in your book to take land that doesn't belong to you and build "settlements" on them? I can only imagine the reaction if Mexico or Canada tried to do that here.

IMO? Absolutely. They're in an almost ridiculous position of being threatened with attack from powerful enemies from day one....and the insistence of people who have never experienced 8000+ rockets flying over head and a second intifada where multiple times a month suicide bombers destroyed innocent civilians.

You tell people living in that situation that "well you can't just get rid of your enemies....that would be wrong". It sounds childish honestly. It sounds silly.

So they're in an impossibly difficult situation....either live under constant fear of attack....constant fear of death....

Or find a way to eliminate the threat quietly and gently enough to make the situation morally palatable to all those fools who think they understand.

They've tried the first, now they're doing the latter.

Israel has an economy....but without our support, they face considerable dangers in Palestine and Iran. They'll move first, rather than wait to be attacked. Palestine will be gone overnight.

Kind of a low blow don't you think?

Well give me a real suggestion then. Cutting off their allowance is a method for getting a 9yo kid to mow the lawn. We're talking about a nation here....they've got more to consider than your money.

It's a small blip on the list of international players who have ignored the UN.

I understand the Palestinians position. It's pretty rare though for anyone to lose what they've lost and get it back.

Rabin was assassinated by a religious zealot. There's plenty of those everywhere.

Sure, but in this case he was a Zionist zealot who was hell bent on making sure there would be no two state solution and he succeeded with the help of Netanyahu.

Well it's ironic to see that criticism of Israel, while knowing that in supporting Palestine....you would be supporting a theocracy that tramples the rights of minorities.

It's only a problem when we're talking about Israel though.

While you insist on twisting my statements out of context, you apparently missed the part where I'd cut them *both* off, not just one side, and you missed the part where I chastised *all* theocracies in general, not just "Jewish" ones. I can't help the fact that people want to establish theocracies, but I can choose not to support them with my tax dollars while they shoot at each other.

IMO? Absolutely. They're in an almost ridiculous position of being threatened with attack from powerful enemies from day one....and the insistence of people who have never experienced 8000+ rockets flying over head and a second intifada where multiple times a month suicide bombers destroyed innocent civilians.

That's an absurd justification for taking land that doesn't belong to them. Why make things worse by stealing more land and pouring more fuel on the fire? How does that resolve anything? Why not build on their *own* side of the green line?

You tell people living in that situation that "well you can't just get rid of your enemies....that would be wrong". It sounds childish honestly. It sounds silly.

I can't stop people from killing each other, but I have no rational reason to give them my money so they can buy more weapons to kill each other more efficiently! Holy cow.

So they're in an impossibly difficult situation....either live under constant fear of attack....constant fear of death....

Or find a way to eliminate the threat quietly and gently enough to make the situation morally palatable to all those fools who think they understand.

We all live in fear of violence, and we are all at threat of violence, if only violence within our local communities. Look at all the school shootings we have endured here in the US. We learn to cope. Building settlements on the wrong side of the green line isn't quiet, or morally palatable.

They've tried the first, now they're doing the latter.

So you think adding fuel to the fire is a rational "solution" to the problem? Why can't they just build on their own side of the green line?

Israel has an economy....

Fine then. I shouldn't have to support them anymore with my tax dollars so they can continue to thumb their noses at the UN.

but without our support, they face considerable dangers in Palestine and Iran.

Israel has nukes. The threat from foreign countries isn't that great anymore. If you look at the number of Palestinians killed and displaced compared to the number of Israelis, it's not even close. The Palestinians have born the brunt of the violence. You act like only Israelis live under threat. That's not the case.

They'll move first, rather than wait to be attacked. Palestine will be gone overnight.

And Israel will be exposed and diminished for it's violence. You wouldn't have advocated that the white population of South Africa commit wholesale genocide against all the black population simply to protect themselves from violence by the black population would you? Your reasoning is atrocious IMO.

Well give me a real suggestion then. Cutting off their allowance is a method for getting a 9yo kid to mow the lawn. We're talking about a nation here....they've got more to consider than your money.

Cutting them off from *billions* of dollars of revenue would have exactly the same effect of cutting my kid's allowance. They'd figure out a solution a lot faster if we cut them off until they got the job done.

It's a small blip on the list of international players who have ignored the UN.

True, but I'm not sending huge amounts of my tax dollars every single year to support North Korea. Why should I support Israel when they violated the non proliferation agreement?

I understand the Palestinians position. It's pretty rare though for anyone to lose what they've lost and get it back.

Not really . Look at South Africa. They found a relatively non violent solution to their problem. Meanwhile look at Israel today. Both sides are still killing each other with weapons of mass destruction and military hardware galore, *decades* after S. Africa found peace. Violence simply begets more violence. Peace requires sacrifice. I doubt that South Africa would have worked out it's problems had the world not cut them off financially.

I get that you cannot stop them from forming....but that doesn't change that some are allies, some are enemies.

Ohhh....land that doesn't belong to them. So we're talking about a legal claim to property?

What is the basis for the Palestinians "claim" to that land?

I can't stop people from killing each other, but I have no rational reason to give them my money so they can buy more weapons to kill each other more efficiently! Holy cow.

Sure you do.

We all live in fear of violence, and we are all at threat of violence, if only violence within our local communities. Look at all the school shootings we have endured here in the US. We learn to cope. Building settlements on the wrong side of the green line isn't quiet, or morally palatable.

Not remotely the same. Most violence that most people encounter isn't random and extreme. It's entirely avoidable.

So you think adding fuel to the fire is a rational "solution" to the problem? Why can't they just build on their own side of the green line?

What "fuel to the fire" are you talking about? Palestine gets smaller as each settlement is built. In 2015-2016...there were 1700 mortar attacks and 4800 rocket attacks on Israel. This time, only 400.

I'd say the current strategy is starving the fire of fuel.

Fine then. I shouldn't have to support them anymore with my tax dollars so they can continue to thumb their noses at the UN.

Why do you think we support them?

Israel has nukes. The threat from foreign countries isn't that great anymore.

What fantasy world are you living in? You've got global climate change, a depletion of many natural resources , mass migration of the poor and uneducated....and you think the world is getting safer???

If you look at the number of Palestinians killed and displaced compared to the number of Israelis, it's not even close. The Palestinians have born the brunt of the violence. You act like only Israelis live under threat. That's not the case.

Let me know when Israel indiscriminately fires 4800 rockets at Palestinian civilians and we'll address this point.

Until then....

And Israel will be exposed and diminished for it's violence. You wouldn't have advocated that the white population of South Africa commit wholesale genocide against all the black population simply to protect themselves from violence by the black population would you? Your reasoning is atrocious IMO.

What circumstances are we talking about exactly?

There's no place left on this planet unpopulated. No easily inhabited places anyway. If you want to have a patch of land for yourself, you might have to fight for it. It's not my reasoning...it's reality.

Cutting them off from *billions* of dollars of revenue would have exactly the same effect of cutting my kid's allowance. They'd figure out a solution a lot faster if we cut them off until they got the job done.

A solution where they peacefully accept that every few years or so....someone they know will get their legs blown off in a random rocket attack???

I doubt it.

Put yourself in their position....imagine your neighbor, every few weeks, threw rocks through your window....stabbed your dog....blew up your water heater....threatened your family, etc.

You can't move and no one, not even the police, will do anything to stop it. I imagine you'd try to talk it over....but they believe you're on their property and want you gone. You can't move though. So you'd build a high fence, and when that doesn't work....you put guards on that fence....

Every once in awhile though, when nobody is looking, you can move that fence further and further into your neighbors' yard....eventually making his home smaller and smaller.

How much money would I have to pay you to just ignore your neighbors' attacks? How much to stop moving your fence?

True, but I'm not sending huge amounts of my tax dollars every single year to support North Korea. Why should I support Israel when they violated the non proliferation agreement?

Why send money to Guatemala when their population is migrating here? Why send it anywhere at all?

Not really . Look at South Africa. They found a relatively non violent solution to their problem.

Sorry....which problem? Apartheid?

Meanwhile look at Israel today. Both sides are still killing each other with weapons of mass destruction and military hardware galore, *decades* after S. Africa found peace.

Radical opposition party advocating seizure of white-owned farms set to surge in South Africa's election

"Its leader Julius Malema frequently indulges in race-baiting rhetoric to advance his cause, once declaring that “we are not calling for the slaughtering of white people — at least for now”.

That a party whose red-bereted followers stage violent protests, ransack shops and threaten journalists is gaining such traction speaks volumes about the scale of disillusionment in South Africa 25 years after the end of white rule
."

Yeah....they're doing great. What a model of working together.

Violence simply begets more violence. Peace requires sacrifice. I doubt that South Africa would have worked out it's problems had the world not cut them off financially.

South Africa is on the verge of falling apart.

Great example.

Sure, them...the people of Palestine, the people of Israel, and others.

Yep, plenty of blame to go around on both sides.

What good would that do?

Besides putting real pressure on them to solve their problems?

I get that you cannot stop them from forming....but that doesn't change that some are allies, some are enemies.

Saudi Arabia is also considered an "ally" but I have no desire to support them financially.

Ohhh....land that doesn't belong to them. So we're talking about a legal claim to property?

In part, yes.

What is the basis for the Palestinians "claim" to that land?

Besides the fact they've also lived there for generations and the related UN resolutions?

Sure you do.

The potential for a comprehensive solution makes this an avoidable problem.

Um, you just answered you own question.

In 2015-2016...there were 1700 mortar attacks and 4800 rocket attacks on Israel. This time, only 400.

I think we're up to 700+, and the land size hasn't shrunk by a corresponding percentage.

I'd say the current strategy is starving the fire of fuel.

I'd say your logic is pretty questionable.

Why do you think we support them?

USS Liberty incident - Wikipedia

Beats me. Political pressure?

What fantasy world are you living in? You've got global climate change, a depletion of many natural resources , mass migration of the poor and uneducated....and you think the world is getting safer???

You have a bad habit of twisting my statements out of context. I simply pointed out that Israel has nukes now, so the threat from foreign countries is rather limited. I haven't seen Iran or Saudi Arabia launch missiles into Israel recently.

Let me know when Israel indiscriminately fires 4800 rockets at Palestinian civilians and we'll address this point.

https://www.vox.com/2014/7/14/5898581/chart-israel-palestine-conflict-deaths

You'll notice right away that the overwhelming majority of the deaths are Palestinian, and have been for the almost 14 years since B'Tselem began tracking. Overall, the group has recorded 8,166 conflict-related deaths, of which 7,065 are Palestinian and 1,101 Israeli. That means 87 percent of deaths have been Palestinian and only 13 percent Israeli. Put another way, for every 15 people killed in the conflict, 13 are Palestinian and two are Israeli.

Oh please. The number of deaths on each side tells the *whole* story. It's essentially genocide since one side is far better armed and far more capable of killing it's adversaries in a methodical way.

What circumstances are we talking about exactly?

There's no place left on this planet unpopulated. No easily inhabited places anyway. If you want to have a patch of land for yourself, you might have to fight for it. It's not my reasoning...it's reality.

The land in questions isn't their land in the first place according to the UN. What exactly are they fighting for if not to *expand* the size of their country?

Suppose Mexico tried that too?

A solution where they peacefully accept that every few years or so....someone they know will get their legs blown off in a random rocket attack???

I doubt it.

Put yourself in their position....imagine your neighbor, every few weeks, threw rocks through your window....stabbed your dog....blew up your water heater....threatened your family, etc.

Why send money to Guatemala when their population is migrating here? Why send it anywhere at all?

Beats me. Considering our budget deficits, I haven't a clue.

Is it though? How much do they really rely on our aid?

Saudi Arabia is also considered an "ally" but I have no desire to support them financially.

Stop driving then.

In part, yes.

Ok...what's the basis for the claim?

Besides the fact they've also lived there for generations and the related UN resolutions?

Sorry, but "they live there" isn't much of a legal claim. Israelis live there now...so by that logic, it's their land.

No I don't, even if you might.

You may not understand it....you may not know it....but that doesn't change it.

The potential for a comprehensive solution makes this an avoidable problem.

What comprehensive solution can possibly exist while Palestinians deny Israel's right to exist?

I mean let's pretend that we worked out a 2 state solution in this fantasy scenario....

Do you think that suddenly, for the first time since the issue of Israel came up, Palestinians will be recognizing Israel's right to exist as a nation?

Why? Because they're a friendly, reasonable, rational people?

Um, you just answered you own question.

I think we're up to 700+, and the land size hasn't shrunk by a corresponding percentage.

I'd say your logic is pretty questionable.

Well let's see...

Israel continues to create settlements in Palestine territory....what's the logical conclusion there?

Back to the anti-semitic memes huh? The Liberty is a favorite of neo nazis everywhere.

It's a friendly fire incident....one of many that happen in every conflict, and one Israel has formally apologized and paid restitution for.

Why bring it up?

You have a bad habit of twisting my statements out of context. I simply pointed out that Israel has nukes now, so the threat from foreign countries is rather limited. I haven't seen Iran or Saudi Arabia launch missiles into Israel recently.

In theory, Israel could launch a nuke at a nearby neighboring region.

The fallout to Israel though makes this a questionable last resort at best.

So when that happens....get back to me.

Oh please. The number of deaths on each side tells the *whole* story. It's essentially genocide since one side is far better armed and far more capable of killing it's adversaries in a methodical way.

Whoa....

I see, so whomever is better at armed conflicts is automatically wrong.

And you're questioning my logic.

The land in questions isn't their land in the first place according to the UN. What exactly are they fighting for if not to *expand* the size of their country?

To eliminate a hostile enemy?

Suppose Mexico tried that too?

Suppose Mexico started indiscriminately launching rockets at citizens in Texas, Arizona, California...because it used to be "their land"?

What do you think our response would be??

Oopsies? Sorry Mexico....here's your land back? Sorry US citizens....pack up and move?

What's your argument here lol?

If my neighbor was upset because I kept stealing his land, I wouldn't keep stealing more of it, I can tell you that much.

Well let's be honest....at no point has this neighbor ever recognized your right to exist.

And he likely never will.

Now what?

Beats me. Considering our budget deficits, I haven't a clue.

Yes.

They didn't just launch 700 missiles at each other. That's progress IMO, even if there are problems that still need to be addressed.

It sounds like you just made that up. South Africa still has problems to work through like all countries, but they're on a peaceful path to working through them all. That's still head and shoulders better than what's going on in Israel recently.

Problems to work through....

I suppose that would be considered putting it mildly if you're a white landowner in S Africa afraid for their life.

We'd find out real fast IMO.

After reading through the rest of your post, I think we're just going around in circles now.

Both sides seem unwilling to accept the other side's right to exist, and this is the key issue that prevents peace from occurring. IMO both sides are guilty of this entrenched behavior and nothing will change until both sides recognize the other's right to exist.

Be realistic. A quick check puts Israel's GDP around 350 billion. 15 or 18 billion isn't likely to change the way their people live.

Palestine's GDP? About 10 billion. They live off foreign aid. You cut them off and they're immediately desperate. As you already said, they have no chance of winning a fight.

Israel would have them right where they want them....it would be the end of Palestine and Israel would have 0 incentive to be benevolent.

Thankfully, those who make such decisions think further ahead than you.

How does Hamas sneak hundreds of 60 foot, two ton Fajr rockets, which don't disassemble, and their Bradley Vehicle sized launch platforms into the most heavily blockaded, surveillanced strip of land in the world?

Where are you getting this from ?? Why this specific rocket ? Is this the only rocket in the world ?
Oh and BTW, It's hardly the most 'suveillanced' strip of land in the world when Hamas managed to hide rockets in UNRWA schools ! We've all seen pics of Hamas with assault weapons, I suppose you'll ask where they got them from also ? It was only after Israel fully pulled out of Gaza that Hamas developed to the level it's now at. They can't win !
