Do you remember that art project from school where you'd cut out phrases and pictures from magazines to make a collage?

My question is, what makes one collage of bible phrases any different than the next?

you know ... cut and snip out phrases and glue them to the bristol board and such ...

Collages are personal to the maker. You choose the pictures and text based on your personality. The best collage is the one with the most pictures and leas text few easy viewing from any distance. No hanging or wallet size pictures. No covering up parts of images that are important to see. It is easy to figure this out.

For specifically making a Bible collage, check out The Ancient Way - Eastern Orthodox in the Faith Groups section to learn about iconography.

images convey emotions and communicate differently than words. the blend of the two to make your point is the goal of piece. The verses you choose should be the inspiration for the images that communicate that message. That being said Graphics is an art form and you can have good images and matching verses and putting it together is a skill something that requires understanding of color, balance and proportion. These can be very fun. There was a nun named Sister Corita Kent she did a lot of graphic posters in the 60's. her art reflected her time period but you might use her and others for inspiration. Her posters are not collages but her sense of color proportion is excellent.
