Sure, but in this case he was a Zionist zealot who was hell bent on making sure there would be no two state solution and he succeeded with the help of Netanyahu.
Sure, them...the people of Palestine, the people of Israel, and others.
While you insist on twisting my statements out of context, you apparently missed the part where I'd cut them *both* off, not just one side, and you missed the part where I chastised *all* theocracies in general, not just "Jewish" ones. I can't help the fact that people want to establish theocracies, but I can choose not to support them with my tax dollars while they shoot at each other.
What good would that do?
I get that you cannot stop them from forming....but that doesn't change that some are allies, some are enemies.
That's an absurd justification for taking land that doesn't belong to them. Why make things worse by stealing more land and pouring more fuel on the fire? How does that resolve anything? Why not build on their *own* side of the green line?
Ohhh....land that doesn't
belong to them. So we're talking about a legal claim to property?
What is the basis for the Palestinians "claim" to that land?
I can't stop people from killing each other, but I have no rational reason to give them my money so they can buy more weapons to kill each other more efficiently! Holy cow.
Sure you do.
We all live in fear of violence, and we are all at threat of violence, if only violence within our local communities. Look at all the school shootings we have endured here in the US. We learn to cope. Building settlements on the wrong side of the green line isn't quiet, or morally palatable.
Not remotely the same. Most violence that most people encounter isn't random and extreme. It's entirely avoidable.
So you think adding fuel to the fire is a rational "solution" to the problem? Why can't they just build on their own side of the green line?
What "fuel to the fire" are you talking about? Palestine gets smaller as each settlement is built. In 2015-2016...there were 1700 mortar attacks and 4800 rocket attacks on Israel. This time, only 400.
I'd say the current strategy is starving the fire of fuel.
Fine then. I shouldn't have to support them anymore with my tax dollars so they can continue to thumb their noses at the UN.
Why do you think we support them?
Israel has nukes. The threat from foreign countries isn't that great anymore.
What fantasy world are you living in? You've got global climate change, a depletion of many natural resources , mass migration of the poor and uneducated....and you think the world is getting safer???
If you look at the number of Palestinians killed and displaced compared to the number of Israelis, it's not even close. The Palestinians have born the brunt of the violence. You act like only Israelis live under threat. That's not the case.
Let me know when Israel indiscriminately fires 4800 rockets at Palestinian civilians and we'll address this point.
Until then....
And Israel will be exposed and diminished for it's violence. You wouldn't have advocated that the white population of South Africa commit wholesale genocide against all the black population simply to protect themselves from violence by the black population would you? Your reasoning is atrocious IMO.
What circumstances are we talking about exactly?
There's no place left on this planet unpopulated. No easily inhabited places anyway. If you want to have a patch of land for yourself, you might have to fight for it. It's not my reasoning...it's reality.
Cutting them off from *billions* of dollars of revenue would have exactly the same effect of cutting my kid's allowance. They'd figure out a solution a lot faster if we cut them off until they got the job done.
A solution where they peacefully accept that every few years or so....someone they know will get their legs blown off in a random rocket attack???
I doubt it.
Put yourself in their position....imagine your neighbor, every few weeks, threw rocks through your window....stabbed your dog....blew up your water heater....threatened your family, etc.
You can't move and no one, not even the police, will do anything to stop it. I imagine you'd try to talk it over....but they believe you're on their property and want you gone. You can't move though. So you'd build a high fence, and when that doesn't work....you put guards on that fence....
Every once in awhile though, when nobody is looking, you can move that fence further and further into your neighbors' yard....eventually making his home smaller and smaller.
How much money would I have to pay you to just ignore your neighbors' attacks? How much to stop moving your fence?
True, but I'm not sending huge amounts of my tax dollars every single year to support North Korea. Why should I support Israel when they violated the non proliferation agreement?
Why send money to Guatemala when their population is migrating here? Why send it anywhere at all?
Not really . Look at South Africa. They found a relatively non violent solution to their problem.
Sorry....which problem? Apartheid?
Meanwhile look at Israel today. Both sides are still killing each other with weapons of mass destruction and military hardware galore, *decades* after S. Africa found peace.
Radical opposition party advocating seizure of white-owned farms set to surge in South Africa's election
"
Its leader Julius Malema frequently indulges in race-baiting rhetoric to advance his cause, once declaring that “we are not calling for the slaughtering of white people — at least for now”.
That a party whose red-bereted followers stage violent protests, ransack shops and threaten journalists is gaining such traction speaks volumes about the scale of disillusionment in South Africa 25 years after the end of white rule."
Yeah....they're doing great. What a model of working together.
Violence simply begets more violence. Peace requires sacrifice. I doubt that South Africa would have worked out it's problems had the world not cut them off financially.
South Africa is on the verge of falling apart.
Great example.
