JFK adjured, "...Ashk what you can do for your country." Why don't today's politicians do the same? After all we're in this thing together aren't we?

No, I don't think conservatives do believe we're in this together. The entire right-wing movement has been built around isolationism and personal autonomy.

To wit: Obama tried to expand Americorps and conservatives pounced on him, claiming he was ushering in some Big Brother-esque program.

The Republicans have asked the Democrats to put away our differences and work for the common good. It is not the Republicans that are the problem.

And other than the illegal Obamacare tax that was forced on us, the only other thing that Obama tried was Jade Helm.

Too many of them are busy helping themselves.

Trump is not one of those.

I think those criticisms are well founded. As mentioned in another thread, what color would their shirts be?

I think Trump will take advantage of some things that will benefit him financially later. When you're that close to the treasury...;)

Because our politicians are more interested in what we can do for them.

Most if not all elected officials benefit personally from their tenure in office. Bureaucrats as well as they usually know who is going to get government contracts and can invest accordingly.

<smile> I wonder how much of his stock his sons sell the day before he tweets about raising tariffs and how much they buy the day before he walks back the tariff thing.....

Actually, no we are not all in this together. The wealthy people and corporations who get to 'lobby' the politicians are providing all the assistance the politicians require.

The rest of us are just here to pick up the tab for them.

I have known three congressmen and Senators very well. Their main concern always seemed to be kissing up to me and my group while on their own getting theirs.

It's hard to vote for these clowns.
Making that big decision which clown do I vote for.

Last time i checked the Democrats and the Left were working on creating more and more mainstream sub tribes every day.

I guess you gotta give the devil his due.

You aren't using that phrase correctly.

Also, in answer to the OP, you are the problem. You and the average voters who politicians believe don't understand what is best for yourself.

"Give the devil his due" is about acknowledging the positive qualities in someone despised or contemptible.

You're using it more like "time to pay the piper" which is more about the payment of an unwanted or preferably avoidable bill. Even that isn't quite correct since in fable...the piper provided a much needed though undesirable service.

The idiom you want is "they're urinating on my head and telling me it's raining"....which is about being lied to and the distortion of truth.
