I actually teach People to have joy and I hate cliches.
The root of joy is thankfulness. If you will focus on being thankful to God and others, then your joy will increase.
Joy is a response and you can't turn it on and off. But saying "thanks" is totally under your control.
1. Start by outwardly thanking everyone who helps you, from family and friends to people in the service industry.
2. In prayer, thank God for all the good things he has done in the Bible, in your life and the lives of others.
3. Forgive those who have hurt you. This will free you from bitterness. Often the root of bitterness blocks us from thanksgiving and joy.
4. When you can do 1-3, thank God for trials and suffering.
Over time, you will grow in joy. I have done this in my life and helped others do the same.

If your sluggishness and lack of joy are not physiological in cause (lack of exercise, bad diet, high stress, disease) then I would urge you to recognize that joy is not found in circumstance but in a Person: Jesus Christ. To ask God for more joy is to ask God for more of Himself. We are only filled with God, however, as we live in daily, moment-by-moment surrender to Him. The key, then, to more joy, to more of God, is fuller surrender of your will and life to Him. Do you know what that looks like? Do you know how to live in daily surrender to God?

"Well Hey". If we get lost.. always go back to the start. For your FATHER so loved this world. You see BILLIONS of people like sand on a beach. Yet He can and does only see you. He made all of this for YOU! He came because there was no way He was going to lose you. Its so strange to me.. cant say how I know but.. you will be in heaven and .. why is He only looking at me.. YOU are the most important thing to Him.
Yet He does this for every one. Maybe your seeking or trying to do something on your own. See its HIS joy... HIS strength..HIS peace...HIS armor. <---each one of those are written. The JOY of the LORD is YOUR strength. Delight your self in the lord and He WILL give you the desires of your heart. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your path.
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Jesus with the 12.. they asked Him ...WHY could not we heal.. so forth so on. He said... (lets make it easy) "man how long to I have to be with you guys. Everything you seen me do from the Father... and you still have no faith?"
Its not what you SEE...its not what you HEAR its not how you FEEL. So many go by feelings.. walk by faith. All the promises in HIS word from HIM come to those that LOVE HIM! The problem for one is ..we try to walk in this world do the things see the things.. love some of the things and ADD God to it. Its HARD for Him to then lead when we are leading. So in all the confusion .. we repent.. we raise or not our hands.. we no matter how we feel rejoice.. praise Him.. sing to Him..in the light.. in all the darkness.. we TRUST aka FAITH that no matter how we FEEL what we SEE or what we HEAR ..HE WILL KEEP HIS WORD! For our GOD IS FAITHFUL!
That WORD was kept to this day for YOU! Isa 41 10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. <---no matter what you see hear feel... that is HIS words to YOU! That come not based on how you FEEL. But FAITH!
Jesus is REAL! Not billions of miles away.. but with you in you.. when you wake up.. go to school or work or play.. when we eat.. what ever.. HE IS ALWAYS there. Do we (a word He has really hit me with) acknowledged Him at all? He does not act like man.. read HIS word.. and KNOW His peace is yours.. His JOY is yours.. His armor is YOURS! But we MUST take it.. by faith.
Sorry I went on so long.. tell HIM what you need..He cares about EVERYTHING.. no matter how you FEEL how dark it is.. He cares and WILL be there..for He is faithful to what Christ has done..its because of that.. believe you receive.. as JESUS said.. He came to give YOU life and more abundantly. So many of our thoughts and feelings are based on some LIE we got..some thought some idea what out or no where just POP in our heads.. you are..as my little boy once said SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO LOVED!

I thought so and I can relate. Unfortunately that desire doesn't really abate itself or go away. We're created for companionship even if it goes unfulfilled. Why do you think it is you don't have a boyfriend? (I don't mean to pry, just trying to help).
For me it's being terrible at social interaction and being entirely average looking. So I try to improve my chances, be that working out, saving for future study and trying to find a better job. What are you doing or not doing that is hurting your attempts at a partner?

Nothing is hurting my attempts at a partner. I was one of the cool kids in school and im very pretty, so i have looks and good social skills lmao. Im just waiting on God to find me a believing mate. since the bible instructs to only marry beleivers. Ive had boyfreinds before but they were bad boys

If someone hasn't already answered this, then the answer to having Joy is thru service of the Lord. Service of loved ones brings joy also.

The short answer is to find Christian work in God's Kingdom...work you believe to be vital and enjoyable...and put your heart and soul into it and your progress...slow or fast...will bring you joy1
If you are sluggish there may be reasons for that...people do go through seasons of difficult times...these are trials to us and Scripture points out we are meant for these trials...they test our faith and in the end...if we stand the test...they grow our faith as well.
Reading Scripture brings great joy to most Christians and it will help you see where you fit into the Kingdom and what works might you be interested in/or might be led to emulate.

Are you doing anything on a routine basis, say once a month, that you are doing exclusively for the Lord?
I don't know what that would be, but something you can do to serve the Lord? I know many Christians that say much of their joy in life, comes from when they are directly serving G-d in Heaven.
And the research 'tends' to show this as well. The happiest people tend to be those who not just go to church, but help out at church.

How long has this been going on? Are you losing interest in activities you once enjoyed? Sleeping too much or too little?
Get a check up to rule out anything physical like any vitamin deficiencies or your thyroid acting up. If all tests come back normal you may have depression.
Like someone else said depression is not a sin or moral failure. It’s a chemical imbalance and nothing to be ashamed of.
You can still be able to function and be depressed. It doesn’t effect everyone the same way.
If that’s the case you should talk to your doctor about getting on anti depressants.

I suggest you change your attitude, and find something to enjoy or be positive about in this life, before you find out just how bad things can get, and the true meaning of hell, kind of thing, ect... And that will either make you or break you, ect... God does not like a lack of respect for Him, the places in which He resides, or the things he knows, that you don't, ect, or the burdens He bears or carries, "for you", and "for us", that you don't know, and cannot comprehend, ect, and a lack of gratitude about how good your life is right now, or can be here, ect... Not using it to the full, ect... It's a gift, not a curse...
Just get out and do something, why don't you... Suck it up buttercup... Take a step out or two and see what happens...
