Trump Billboard Make Gospel Great Again.png

Controversial billboard featuring Donald Trump, 'Make the Gospel great again,' and Bible verse is taken down in Missouri

It's unbelievable how out of control and brazen the Trump worship has become. He is their "Jesus" now.

And "make the Gospel great again"??? The Gospel stopped being great? Unbelievable.

From the Facebook page of the group "Make the Gospel Great Again" who responsible for this billboard, here is their mission:
Mission
MGGA exists to help spread the truth of God’s great champion on earth - President Donald Trump. The Lord anointed Mr. Trump to bless America, and we live out our faith by following him. Donald Trump has already won many victories for Jesus by stopping abortions, telling the truth, proving that the real racists are not white, and fighting against the liberal media and their War on Christians!

But the Progressive “Christians” who hate the Bible constantly say negative things about Donald Trump. We will not stand for their disgusting witch hunts and fake news about inappropriate content stars, nazis and Russians and raping. These disgusting liberals proclaim “social justice”, forgiveness and compassion. They use scripture as a weapon to weaken America, when we need it to be stronger than ever in the face of threats against our families from immigrants, abortioners, journalists and other enemies!

MGGA will work tirelessly to remind Christians to be loyal to President Trump and trust him in all circumstances. As Proverbs 3:5 reminds us, “Trust him with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

You are not alone! Thousands of leading pastors have put their faith in our president - Jerry Falwell Jr, James Dobson, Franklin Graham, Robert Jeffress, and many others.

If it's true, then doesn't surprise me at all. However, I would like to ask this question: Wouldn't it be more accurate if the billboard said, "Make Two Corinthians Great Again"? You know, it truly is a sad predicament for the United States when a twice divorced admitted adulterer and proud womanizer is exalted to a spiritual level like that by Christians, no less. It's no wonder Evangelical Christianity has been mocked since he was elected and the Christian witness of his supporters has been mocked too.

It sounds like a send up.

According to the article...

A Facebook page titled Make The Gospel Great Again, which appeared to take credit for the billboard in a since-deleted post, also features an “About” section that read, “We believe God has given American Christians His earthly messenger — Donald J. Trump. We follow his words in faith each day!”

The mission statement goes on to read, “MGGA exists to help spread the truth of God’s great champion on earth — President Donald Trump. The Lord anointed Mr. Trump to bless America, and we live out our faith by following him. Donald Trump has already won many victories for Jesus by stopping abortions, telling the truth, proving that the real racists are not white, and fighting against the liberal media and their War on Christians! … MGGA will work tirelessly to remind Christians to be loyal to President Trump and trust him in all circumstances. As Proverbs 3:5 reminds us, ‘Trust him with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.'”

Proverbs 3:5 tells Christians to trust the Lord “with all your heart.”

In a post attempting to clarify the billboard’s message, the group wrote that it did not mean to equate Trump with Jesus. It does, however, make a point to say that President Trump is a “messenger.” It also says its page will be taken down due to the backlash that was received.

What's a send up?
From the Collins dictionary

A send-up is a piece of writing or acting in which someone or something is imitated in an amusing way that makes them appear foolish. [British, informal]

Best case scenario: This is a case of Poe's Law in real life.
Worst case scenario: May God have mercy on our souls.

When it comes to great politics, I have just raised the bar. Two Korinthians is one of my favourite books with fantastic prayers of all kinds. Thats why Im thrilled it agrees with me: Trump is the worlds greatest leader and I mean that in every sense of the word. Mar-a-Lago is the only club where you can see it. Trump is by far the healthiest, most intelligent man youve ever had as a president, truly in a league of his own. Trump is five star win, quality that belongs in a very select category of golfclubs and is certified yuge. Theres nothing better than that. Of all the politicians in america, less than one percent qualify in that category; Im the best of the best.

Until now you could only enjoy Trump of this quality in one of my resort restaurants or americas finest steakhouses, but now, thats changed. Today, through the presidential alarm, you can enjoy the worlds greatest president in your own home with family, friends, at any time. Trump is aged to perfection to provide the ultimate in win and brain. If you like politicians, youll absolutely love Trump. Treat yourself to the very best american politics has to offer.

One speech and youll know exactly what im talking about. And believe me: I understand politics, its my favourite food, and I am the best.

Oh my...are you freaking kidding me?! Where's the "throwing up in my own mouth" smiley of this one? Somehow this guy just isn't cutting it right now:

The optimist in me is holding out that this is satirical, and I'm letting myself choose to believe that's the case until more information is made available. On the other hand the pessimist in me is weeping.

No, it was mocked way before. I know because i mocked it in a climate favorable for that.

Yes, I realize that, but I was referring to the recent mockery, such as articles like these: "Evangelical convictions for sell," "the great Evangelical compromise," and "Evangelicals abandon their principles" and other critical articles like the following: Evangelicals slammed Bill Clinton's sexual misconduct. So why does Trump get a pass? and Trump-Loving Christians Owe Bill Clinton an Apology.

Best case scenario: This is a case of Poe's Law in real life.

I had also considered this while writing my reply (which was originally longer, before I remembered that this is exactly why I hate politics; for me it's a stoking of the passions and nothing else), but then figured it to be a bit irrelevant, because any matter in which the best case scenario is Poe's Law in real life is still terrible.

But I'm with you: let's hope...

Not that I am advocating this kind of thing at all, but I can't help but notice that people who have political statements to make tend to like vandalizing religious billboards...
