It attacks the dignity of transpeople. Let's not be so naive as to pretend that this sort of thing doesn't contribute to violence.

Whoa now! You suggested I'm naive! That's an attack on my intelligence and is therefore violent. When should I expect my $55,000 check to arrive?

Free speech in the USA doesn't include making negative speech inherently violent.

If it leads to actual damages, I could forsee somebody being sued for doing something similar in the US, in the right context.

It's malicious how? Is telling the truth a malicious act?

It's your self-proclaimed truth. A pluralistic society involves more than just your opinion.

Read the actual tribunal's conclusions. This is more than just misgendering somebody or holding convictions about biological sex. It's a malicious act.

Then so would writing in disagreement with someone's viewpoints. That would make Christianforums.com a very violent place, by that definition anyway.

If it's designed to instigate hatred or contempt against an entire group of people, it is.

That hardly applies.

The same can be said of any criticism or even an idle comment heard by anyone who does not care for what was said. To criminalize free speech certainly goes against some of the most basic human rights concepts we have in Western society.

That doesn't define totalitarianism, it is true, but such laws and prosecutions are definitely typical of totalitarian regimes and unlike free societies.

What "actual damages" were incurred in the case in Canada?

It's your self-proclaimed truth. A pluralistic society involves more than just your opinion.

Yet opinions are allowed to be proclaimed. Otherwise, we wouldn't have a free exchange of ideas. You wouldn't want that to be stopped, would you?

The law in Canada is not about a civil lawsuit but a violation of human rights with an associated civil penalty. So it's a different case, potentially, than what would happen in the US.

Someone could sue for slander. Could they sue because they said something true about the biological make-up of a person? I doubt it. The USA isn't clown world just yet.

Except I've yet to see the justification for why in a pluralist society calling biological men and questioning their ability to run as a political candidate should not be allowed. You've gone through the standard social justice talking points of equating speech with violence yet as far as I can tell such a standard if applied equally would let no one say anything negative about anyone ever. Except you didn't mean that and wanted to say its the intent behind the words that matters but that would mean we could hypothetically say that as a candidate a man who thinks he is a woman, is not qualified for political office.

Your pluralist society seems like a leftist society to me.

Of course, but we are assessing the Canadian law. It does verge upon the kind of thing that would be expected only in a totalitarian society.

Then people who have the same reasoning as you in America should hope such laws aren't implemented here. Have you heard the things said against Trump? They call him mentally ill. Wouldn't that qualify as malicious slander? With all the times he's been called just that, he could sue enough people to pay off the national debt if we had laws like Canada does.

If the democratic extreme Left (a growing number of people) get their way, it will be the sort of thing we end up with.

That's not the issue here. The issue here is discrimination. It is a human right not to be discriminated against because of your identity.

There is a growing body of professionals asking questions about transgender ideology and raising concerns about the practice of fast tracking young people into transition.

IMHO Free Speech is not allowed for certain aspects of society.

"Wake Up to the Threat

A so-called “human rights tribunal” in Canada has just ruled that a Christian activist must pay $55,000 to a provincial politician because he referred to this politician as a “biological male” in a political pamphlet. The politician in question, Morgane Oger (born Ronan Oger), is a biological male. However, he has since “transitioned,” and is living his life as a “transgender woman.” According to the decision, Bill Whatcott must compensate Oger for injuring the latter’s “dignity, feelings and self-respect.”

The terrifying precedent set by this case can be illustrated by this one, flabbergasting fact: The judge in the case refused to allow Whatcott’s lawyer to offer testimony showing that, in point of fact, Oger is a biological male. According to the judge, “the ‘truth’ of [Whatcott’s] statements in the flyer is not a defense.” As such, said the judge, “evidence is simply not relevant to the legal issue…”

Read that again. Let it sink in. Truth is not a defense. Evidence doesn’t matter. What matters – it would seem – is whether someone’s feelings are hurt."

Did anyone see where the guy who "became a woman" broke 9 women's world weightlifting records? I wonder how Feminists feel about that.

Even more importantly, how do the female competitors who were never previously a man feel about it?

"However, despite her own enthusiasm, Gregory's win seems to have angered a few other athletes, including former British Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies and British track Olympian Kelly Holmes.

Davies took to Twitter to express her disdain over Gregory competing as a woman, writing, "This is a trans woman a male body with male physiology setting a world record & winning a woman’s event in America in powerlifting. A woman with female biology cannot compete. It’s a pointless unfair playing field."

Piggybacking on Davies' sentiment, Holmes chimed in, writing Gregory's record-setting was "a bloody joke" and that biological women may start to "boycott certain events."

"Have a trans category if need be but even better a trans games," she continued. "Otherwise i’m starting to worry about the backlash and abuse that the trans community will get from spectators. It will happen!"

Davies, a vocal supporter of Fair Play For Women, a group which describes itself as being "concerned about the impact of transgender policy on the participation of women and girls in sport," later returned to social media to double down on her critique.

"The reason we have men & women’s races are because we are biologically different," she wrote. "Performance 100% confirms that. The reason steroids (including testosterone) are on the banned list is because using them gives you an advantage. FairPlay is racing by biology by sex not by gender."
