Hi to all and John 6:54 reads ,Whosoever EATED my FLESH and DRINKETH my BLOOD , hath eternal LIFE and I will RAISE him up at the last DAY !!

How can we eat His flesh and drink His blood to have eternal life ?

What does the LAST DAY signify ?

If the LAST DAY is a resurrection , who will be RAISED ??

You already quoted the verse, some more relevant verses are Luke 22:19–20; Matthew 26:26–28; Mark 14:22–24; 1 Corinthians 11:23–25. As far as your second question more information will be needed of what you are referring to.

On one level the Last Day for each of us (with the exception of those who are alive when I Corinthians 15 is fulfilled) is the day that we die...............

..... I betcha that former Skeptic Howard Storm would highly recommend taking communion these days..... after his negative..... and then profoundly positive... near death experience!

Also John 6:40

For it is My Father’s will that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Well, John is the latest of the canonical Gospels. It is onee of the strongest against the Jews probabaly written at a time when there was a great deal of animosity between Christians and Jews. No doubt, the Jews found the Eucharistic meal particularly offensive. John hammers it.

And as a latter Gospel it still reflects apocalyptic thinking expecting a last day end of the known world beginnig of the Kingdom.

I am not a Biblical scholar but if we read the New Testament objectively we see a bunch of different strands of thinking that we want to reconcile, no matter how contradictory.

Anyone who holds to the concept of transubstantiation or one of its derivatives is going to give you the same response most of those in the synagogue gave Jesus.

Perhaps a good discussion of "Manna" might be more enlightening.

Hi and Matt 26:26-29 better describes what it means to EAT his flesh or body and drink His blood and this I believe is ONLY directed to Israel and NOT the BODY OF CHRIST !!

And the LAST DAY is in the FATHER'S KINGDOM in verse 29 !!

In John 6:54 I will raise him UP / ANISTEMI is in the Greek FUTURE TENSE so here we also have a NEAR VIEW as to John 6:54 and the FAR VIEW is the DRY BONES of Israel alsdo called the resurrection of the JUST and the UNJUST as written in Matt 26:32-46 !!
