Suddenly dawned on me - in years past we have had threads on the subject of cravings during the Great Fast - but not this year !!

Sooooo how is the week when we are forbidden to fast going ?
I went to the cafeteria in our building for lunch yesterday.
There was a pasta bar.
I went out and found a hotdog vendor on the street.

otoh, I have to be careful this week. Too much is still too much.

French toast from thick Paska bread dredged in egg, heavy cream, vanilla and spices griddled in butter with Paska cheese melted into an anglaise sauce drizzled on top of it....

Delicious for Pascha afternoon! :D not so great for my waistline though!

I even had my yearly bite of meat (bacon) :) since we are supposed to not fast during this time! Still tastes yummy despite not having meat (with the exception of my Pascha bite) for about 10 years lol.

There's really a week when you're forbidden to fast? What's the thinking behind that?

the Resurrection just happened, the Bridegroom is with us, and you don't fast when the Bridegroom is with you.

Are you required to eat meat and cheese? What do vegans do?

you aren't required to do anything. vegans can still be vegans, they feast in their own way. fasting isn't simply the denial of food.

I ate chick fil a today. I had fried mozzarella sticks last night. Ate some M&M's. It's been great :D

But I can also relate to the "my stomach hurts" comment and the "too much is still too much" comment. I feel like I've been overdoing it a bit... especially the first feast after service on Saturday night. My stomach hurt quite a bit Sunday morning. I think I've been trying to still eat in moderation since then and I've been better about it, but still almost certainly overeating

Raffaelo candy - literally the only thing I craved; and I don't even eat them too often, or even often at all on account of the diabetes. But that's the first thing I thought of and finally found some today :D

Uggghhhhh.

I am not doing well. I didn't eat too much at Pascha, and not so many things I wanted that I normally don't eat on Keto. But you get more "adapted" as you stay on it, and my body did NOT react as it did last Pascha, or Nativity.

A little sugar (ok really more than a little) on Pascha, and some pizza, and I am SICK. I finally had my normal coffee with oil today (Tuesday afternoon) ... still sipping it. Had half my usual breakfast made from egg and cheese with a little turkey.

I forgot it's a fast free week. I just spoke to my SF who told me to try to get back to eating again, my normal diet.

If I remain on this Keto (I actually hope I can do something else but this works for my arm pain) ... I'm going to HAVE to find another way to both fast and feast. This hasn't been a benefit but a distraction. Lesson learned much more fully this time than before.

But at least that means I'm blessed to have a little chicken tomorrow even though it will be Wednesday. So glory to God.

Vegans get to have a miserable existence all year round, as long as they don't tell anyone else. If they do tell someone then there is a disciplinary canon which states they have to eat meat in front of their vegan friends for a week ^_^

Well the evening after our Pascha feast (which consisted for me primarily of pit roasted lamb) my wife commented that she could tell I had not eaten meat for fourty days. Takes a bit for the body to adjust I guess.

My stomach needs to get used to eating meat again, my stomach hurts

Interesting. My gastro-intestinal system never adjusted to the fast (and never has on other fasts)…lots of GI upset through all the fasting periods…but no issues at all going back to meat and dairy and eggs. For me, it was not only great to enjoy these foods, but also not to feel awful again. I am really not much of a fruits, vegetables or grains kind of guy.

Hope you all adjust quickly.
