Every other Monday, before the summer time,my family and I get the lawn mowed,so this Monday the lawn men came,I had found $70.00 in my purse, our lawn matience guys take $80.00,so I gave the one guy that always comes to the door to get the money, because he is the only one out of the 3 of them that knows English,so he came and rang the door bell,I gave him the $70.00 I tried telling him that's all I had,a few minutes later,he rings the doorbell and tells me,it's only $70.00 so I try to explain to him again that that's all I have, and again,he rings the doorbell a few minutes later and tells me the same thing that it's only $70.00 so again I tell him,it's the only money I had, well instead of saying that's ok,don't worry about it,you can just give me the rest of the money the next time,he just gives me a look and says ok I guess,it just really made me so mad,I mean he could have been grateful that he got the money even though it was not all of it,what do you think makes people so greedy about money?Thoughts on this.

They probably like to eat. So selfish of them.

So when you asked if it would be alright to pay later did you offer to pay interest?

Buy a lawn mower and do it the old fashioned way, think about how much money you'll save over time.

If you didn’t have the money to pay at the time, you should have spoken with him before he did the work to clarify that a later payment was acceptable, especially if the explicit or implicit understanding was that he would be paid at the time of service. I know I would be very angry and upset if my employer didn’t pay me when agreed and said he’ll pay me later...I live paycheck to paycheck as do many.

Leviticus 19:13 “You shall not cheat your neighbor, nor rob him. The wages of him who is hired shall not remain with you all night until morning” (NKJV)

I understand that, and yes I should have told him that, but he could have been more friendler about it.

Perhaps he could have been but you have no right and should have no expectation that he would. Had you paid him the full $80. first and, after cutting only 7/8ths of your lawn, he told you he would finish the rest the next time he came how friendly would you have been about it?

You said he was the only one who knew English, but his continuing to ring the doorbell and saying the same thing each time after you told him it's all you had sounds as if he didn't understand what you were saying all that well.

people have the right to expect they will be paid the correct amount, they have expenses, responsibilities, and some may have families.

Would you want to be short changed at your job? work hard then get stiffed by your employer?

There is nothing wrong with honest pay for honest work, that is not greed.

Greed is letting them work, then not paying them there due. All workers are worthy of there pay, even if they are not English speakers.

The correct thing to have done would be to have them not do the work, or come to an agreement for the $70, before they did the work. It is not there fault that you and your parents bad planning.

The only greedy person is you.

Well if effort is put into making the money then there is an investment of physical labor and driving to the location using gasoline and the expectation of the employees to get paid. Perhaps that causes the "greed". Although I don't know if you could call it greed at that point. Perhaps there's another word for that? Maybe "expectation"?

Just trying to be helpful really, cheers :)
