Marchers for Science protest 'alarming' anti-science trends

Of course on the internet we can find all sorts of ridiculous things. But how about in our actual personal encounters? I know a few climate change deniers and a few who believe in the literal Genesis account of creation. But no flat earthers or moon landing deniers.

While I do agree the climate has changed, I do not believe it is man made.

I accept the 7 days narrative in Genesis.

I do believe we went to the moon, as far as flat earthers are concerned, I may have known one back in the 80's, but I can't really remember, same for anti moon landers.

IMO true science is always about discovering greater truths based on constantly challenging established beliefs. Demanding the acceptance of the status quo without question turns "science" into dogmatic religion, which results in inquisitions like this:

I’ve met flat earthers and antimoon landing science illiterates on the internet. Creationists I’ve met in real life and on the net. They all call me an evolutionist because I also accept that the earth is very very old. . I explain repeatedly that if they want me to accept their beliefs they have to show me evidence that it’s an accurate description of the universe. So far , the only thing I’ve seen from any science illiterates are misinformation and sometimes deliberate lies. Though to be honest, they’re mostly repeating lies that they’ve been told

I tend to really pay close attention to new people I'm discussing with in person and asking questions with, and I try to learn what they think often, and have done this a lot in many cities and churches also. I've not encountered anyone in person ever saying any flat earth stuff I can recall, in my life, though I never tried to ask about it; it's quite rare I think. In contrast the faked moon landing conspiracy theory is probably more common, and I've encountered that perhaps a handful of times, like 4-6 people out of over a thousand, so it's uncommon that people would admit to it, even if more think so. In contrast, about 1/2 of Christians don't realize that 'evolution' fits Genesis chapter 1 just fine (and I doubt I'll convince many, and actually am much more concerned instead that they find out the real rock/foundation they absolutely must have: Matthew 7:24-27, since unsound beliefs like specifying the age of Earth under 10,000 years (which is not at all supported by scripture, which instead suggests only the rough timeline after Adam left the Garden until Christ if we assume the genealogies are complete) -- belief in something as shaky as the age of Earth under 10,000 years could get shaken or destroyed tomorrow. It's "sand". But the true foundation -- the rock of Matthew 7:24-27 -- actually can never be shaken).

I've never met them, but I'm represented by a couple of politicians who think men can be women.
. Your sex is determined at conception. You’re either XX or XY ( most of us anyway). The parts of the brain that control gender don’t develop until 5 months later. Some people’s gender doesn’t match their sex because brain development is complex. Your politician is correct whether you like that situation or not

There is the whole "homosexuality is genetic" thing. I have yet to see one homosexual relationship pass along genes of any kind. Apparently their science consists of, "Because you're an evil bigot if you don't believe it.".
You have an oversimplified understanding of genetics. Homosexuals themselves need not breed for such genes to be passed on. For example if a gene gave a woman a higher fertility rate and that gene also increased the chance that a man would be born homosexual that could still be a positive mutation and would be passed on along the female line. Guess what? Such a relationship has been found:

Homosexual link to fertility genes

As to the OP, the number of science deniers is rather disturbing. Ironically many of them rely heavily on the internet to pass on their anti-science beliefs.

But is "gender" a scientific term?

Right. "It's complicated."

Claiming homosexuality evolved genetically is patently absurd when it relies on heterosexual relationships to continue the line. But only Christians are the pseudoscientists. Heard it before, will hear it again.

I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with the chemicals and hormones we put in our food these days. There are many articles about the age of puberty dropping for girls because of hormones in milk and dairy, which we feed our farm animals. I've seen some along the lines of sexuality of frogs or things being altered by exposure to some chemicals, so I don't see why that couldn't affect a human either, right from beginning stages, getting milk from mommy, who got her milk from a cow (and a few other things she wasn't expecting)

Kind of funny; you add extra hormones to your food supply to support your large population...
...And a bigger % of your population develops a preference for homosexuality as a result (through no choice of their own)
...which eventually results in a slightly less large population I guess.
(and a very annoyed conservative one along the way lol)

Almost sounds... self regulating...

Anyway, just my two cents. It lets me live and let live with everyone. Take it if it helps you.

Just because you do not like something does not make it absurd. Your claim was easily refuted by observations.

What evidence do you have that homosexual orientation has increased?

"Children with infantile Tay–Sachs disease usually die by the age of 4"

I have yet to see one 4 year old pass along genes of any kind. And yet Tay-Sachs is a genetic disease.

This is more a case of just not understanding human sexuality and genetics. Especially if you think human sexuality is purely binary.

did you read what he wrote ? The female relatives of a homosexual man tend to be more fertile . Homosexuality might be what SJ Gould called a spandrel. The arches were planned by the architect the spandrels (which is just the space between the arches )are kinda dragged along . In genetics that happens too. natural selection selects for a trait and another trait kinda gets dragged along
